Mets | Could move Lucas Duda to cleanup

Tue, 22 Apr 2014 15:17:50 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he is considering moving 1B Lucas Duda to the cleanup spot in the batting order. "We've put a lot on Lucas' plate in the past week," Collins said about the reluctance to use Duda as a cleanup hitter now. "I don't want to pile on."

Mets | Kyle Farnsworth's health fine

Tue, 22 Apr 2014 09:13:35 -0700

New York Mets RP Kyle Farnsworth was hunched over and shaking his forearm after the game Monday, April 21, but the team said their new closer is "fine." Farnsworth acknowledged flexing forearm after his save Monday, but he said it's just a sign of being "old." He might not be available to close Tuesday, April 22, because he's been warmed up frequently recently.

Fantasy Tip: That's not what you want to hear from a 38-year-old reliever that was just put into the closing role. Don't lose sight of Jose Valverde or Jeurys Familia, who could see save opportunities if Farnsworth breaks down health-wise.

Mets | Curtis Granderson continues to scuffle

Mon, 21 Apr 2014 19:52:54 -0700

Mets | Jenrry Mejia working on scoreless streak

Mon, 21 Apr 2014 19:52:17 -0700

New York Mets SP Jenrry Mejia allowed four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a win against the St. Louis Cardinals Monday, April 21. He extended his career-high scoreless streak to 13 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Mejia, who has 25 strikeouts through 22 2/3 innings, has long had potential, but injuries have held him back a bit. He is now healthy and showing what he can do, and that's quite a bit. Fantasy owners in all formats can use a pitcher of his caliber.

Mets | Kyle Farnsworth gets job done

Mon, 21 Apr 2014 19:51:17 -0700

New York Mets RP Kyle Farnsworth converted his first save Monday, April 21, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He worked around a single in a scoreless ninth inning. It was his first save since Sept. 29, 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Farnsworth doesn't have a lot of tread left on the tires, but stranger things have happened. Look how Jason Grilli re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option last season despite being a little long in the tooth. Farnsworth is worth scooping up in all NL-only fantasy formats and deeper mixed rotisserie leagues if you need saves.

Mets | Bobby Abreu called up, Andrew Brown optioned

Mon, 21 Apr 2014 11:41:19 -0700

The New York Mets recalled OF Bobby Abreu from Triple-A Las Vegas Monday, April 21, and optioned OF Andrew Brown in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Abreu gives the Mets a left-handed stick off the bench and in pinch-hit situations. He's not worth pursuing.

Mets | Want Jose Valverde to use splitter more often

Mon, 21 Apr 2014 08:40:10 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins told RP Jose Valverde that he wants him to use his split-fingered fastball more often, and Valverde agreed it was a good idea. Valverde was demoted from the closer's role Sunday, April 20, after allowing four home runs in his last three outings.

Fantasy Tip: Valverde loses appeal now that he's in a setup role for the Mets. However, Farnsworth's leash probably isn't that long, either, so it's conceivable that Papa Grande could win the role back, especially if he appeases Collins by using the splitter more frequently.

Mets | Curtis Granderson bumped to second in order

Sun, 20 Apr 2014 23:48:05 -0700

Updating a previous item, New York Mets OF Curtis Granderson was bumped up to the second spot in the lineup to jump-start his bat. Granderson went 0-for-6 on the day before a 14th-inning sacrifice fly gave his team a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Mets | Kyle Farnsworth named closer

Sun, 20 Apr 2014 07:16:11 -0700

The New York Mets named RP Kyle Farnsworth as the team's closer Sunday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: Farnsworth should be owned in all leagues. Get him into your lineups. Jose Valverde will likely see late inning bullpen work and is probably going to lose some of his fantasy baseball value as a result of this move. For more on this situation, go to our Closer Depth Charts.

Mets | Closer change might be coming

Sat, 19 Apr 2014 20:20:15 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins hinted Saturday, April 19, that he is changing closers. He said he did not want to address the topic publicly until he addressed players, though.

Fantasy Tip: Jose Valverde allowed three unearned runs, one hit and a walk in an inning of work in a non-save situation Saturday against the Atlanta Braves in the ninth inning. It appears he is out of a job. It's uncertain if the team will promote Vic Black or Jeurys Familia, use Gonzalez Germen or go with a closer-by-committee. For now, Valverde is worth keeping in NL-only leagues, but reserve him.

Mets | Curtis Granderson to be dropped in lineup

Sat, 19 Apr 2014 19:39:11 -0700

New York Mets manager Terry Collins said Saturday, April 19, that the struggling OF Curtis Granderson will be dropped from the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Granderson has stumbled out of the chute and shown no signs of life in the first month of the season. He is worth keeping on a roster in all NL-only fantasy leagues and deeper mixed formats, but keep him reserved until he can find his groove.
