So I only took about two weeks off from throwing and was playing catch three to four days a week. It was nothing big - just keeping the changeup and curveball where (they) need to be." He is hoping to win a spot in the bullpen out of spring training. Comment (0) | Share: Twins | Danny Valencia worked to improve offense, defense Sun, 29 Jan 2012 16:52:58 -0800 Minnesota Twins 3B Danny Valencia studied video of his defense last year, in which he committed 18 errors, the most by a third baseman in team history since 1990. "I had a couple false steps when I would move (leaving his head out of position)," Valencia said. "I also realized I could set up a little earlier and stay lower defensively." He made corrections mechanically and worked to improve his speed and agility this offseason. He also studied his at-bats and made a small change concerning his hands; he is now bringing his hands straight back in his swing, giving him a much straighter path to the ball instead of trapping his hands toward his body, forcing a longer swing. "Hopefully this spring I'll just get a lot of reps out there and get comfortable," Willingham said. "That's the goal. Playing on the opposite end of the field, it's different, the way the balls come off the bat, so it'll just take a little bit of time to get used to."
