Minnesota Twins news, rumors and injuries

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton (thumb) is working his way back from his thumb injury but will not be rushed back. Buxton has been taking part in resistance drills underwater and was scheduled to hit off a tee and soft toss this past weekend. He may take batting practice later in the week to see how his thumb responds. Buxton would then go to the team's spring training facility to take batting practice before starting a rehab assignment. The team is hoping Buxton will be able to return before the start of September.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Buxton ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is still several weeks away from returning from the team and will take his time in returning. Owners should pay more attention to Buxton when he starts his rehab assignment since that would be a signal that he would be close to returning.

Minnesota Twins SS Danny Santana is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi Sunday, July 26. SS Eduardo Nunez will start at shortstop and is batting seventh in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Santana ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the next game or two. Nunez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting only .150 in limited playing time this month and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Hunter ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) has really struggled with a .185 average this month. He has a .276-3-17 line in 76 at-bats against Sabathia, but he's probably not worth using on FantasyScore in the midst of his slump.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is 4-for-12 (.333) lifetime off CC Sabathia and has a .282-4-12 line this month. He's a good start on FantasyScore today.

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana delivered his second straight scoreless outing, allowing four hits and striking out seven over eight innings in a win against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday, July 23.
Fantasy Tip: Santana ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has been excellent in three of his four stats since serving a suspension for PED use, and he makes a great source of cap relief at his current price at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Sugar Shane ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) isn't a good option on FantasyScore.
Thu, 23 Jul 2015 10:20:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Sano ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has a .304-2-9 line this month and is a solid midrange option at third base on FantasyScore.
Thu, 23 Jul 2015 10:10:55 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hicks ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting .292-2-7 this month and makes for a decent low-end FantasyScore outfielder against Garrett Richards.

Fantasy Tip: Sano ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) hasn't played since Saturday, July 18, but he has nice upside at his affordable cap hit. He has the handedness advantage going for him and a .326/.434/.558 slash line with five runs, two home runs and nine RBI over 13 games since joining the Twins.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hasn't played since June 24, but he was just starting to find his stride at the plate before landing on the DL. He should be added in all leagues of 12 or more teams.
Tue, 21 Jul 2015 15:51:47 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Nunez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is hitting .333 against righties through 77 plate appearances. He'll be an option of cap relief for owners, and he'll be a strong option to plug in at short stop.
Tue, 21 Jul 2015 15:47:44 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Sano ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) hasn't played since July 18, and he had gone 0-for-7 in his past two games. FantasyScore owners can give Sano a little more time before investing.

Minnesota Twins C Kurt Suzuki could lose his starting job if the Twins' pursuit of a starting catcher at the trade deadline works out. The Twins are looking at targets like Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski, San Diego Padres C Derek Norris, Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy, and Detroit Tigers C Alex Avila.
Fantasy Tip: Suzuki ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has lost some of his punch at the plate, as his batting average has dropped to .227 this season. Keep an eye on what the Twins do before July 31 and be prepared to drop Suzuki outright if he loses a chunk of his playing time.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) would definitely be better off in Milwaukee under this situation. With Byron Buxton, Aaron Hicks, Torii Hunter and others already in the outfield, Gomez would lose a ton of fantasy value in going from starter to benchwarmer.

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (ankle) sprained his right ankle after stepping on a baseball during infield drills Saturday, July 18. He is only expected to be sidelined for three to five days, according to manager Paul Molitor.
Fantasy Tip: Sano ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has been serving primarily as a designated hitter since being promoted, with Trevor Plouffe ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) continuing to see the bulk of the work at the hot corner. He has lived up to the hype thus far, batting .326 with two home runs and nine RBIs through his first 13 games.
