Fantasy Tip: After serving as the primary setup man for most of the last three years for Minnesota, Fien (7.90 ERA in 14 outings this season) was banished to middle and long relief this year. Even if he latches onto another team, he's miles away from fantasy relevancy.

Fantasy Tip: Milone was demoted to the bullpen last week after posting a 5.79 ERA and going winless in his first four starts. The Twins might have been willing to give him more time, but they needed to make room for Ervin Santana, who is expected to start Saturday. Kyle Gibson is reportedly making progress as he returns from a shoulder injury and could make it back as soon as next week.

Minnesota Twins C Joe Mauer reached safely for the 28th consecutive game Wednesday, May 4, against the Houston Astros, the second-longest streak to start a season in franchise history. It is also the longest streak in the majors this season.
Fantasy Tip: Mauer has re-emerged as a must-start across all fantasy formats and in DFS play after a couple of down years by his standards. He is hitting .323, which is 10 points higher than his career average. Welcome back, Mr. Mauer.

Fantasy Tip: Hughes slipped to 1-5 with a 5.85 ERA on the season. He just had some poor luck early on, as he went 1-3 in his first four outings, but they were all quality starts. However, it has gone off the rails over the past two outings, with Hughes going 0-2 with a 12.86 ERA. He cannot be trusted in any fantasy formats right now.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar could split more time at the 6 now with Nunez now that Trevor Plouffe is off the DL. Nunez has a cool .371/.420/.484 slash line with a homer and 10 RBI in 62 at-bats to begin the year. He won't hit this well all year but is a consideration for infield depth in AL-only leagues as long as he sees regular playing time. Nunez's daily ceiling is low hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: It's unfortunate Arcia doesn't get more playing time, as this is only his second start since April 29. Many thought he'd be farther along by now after cranking 20 homers a couple of years ago in 103 games. Through 52 at-bats this season, he already has three dingers, to go with nine RBI and a .250/.304/.423 slash line. He's got upside if he could just crack the lineup more.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer lasted just 2 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs to the Houston Astros Tuesday night. Before that, he was used in relief for an inning April 29 and allowed two runs. Meyer could be swing man/long relief arm for the Twins again at some point this year, but his fantasy value is limited to deeper AL-only setups.

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier said he realized he was standing too close to the plate while watching video with hitting coach Tom Brunansky. He's been better over the last week or so, registering a .250/.308/.417 line with a home run, three doubles and six RBI in his past eight games.
Fantasy Tip: This might explain why Dozier was struggling so mightily through April, as it took a three-hit effort on Monday night just to get his season average up over the Mendoza Line. Considering he was an All-Star last year and is one of the best power-hitting second baseman in the league, his owners should be hopeful that he can break out of his rut and start producing more consistently again.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe is back off the DL and will return to his starting third base job. If he's out there on your league's waiver wire in deep mixed leagues, scoop him up if you need an upgrade at the hot corner. Plouffe is certainly of capable of returning to the 20-homer mark.

Fantasy Tip: Santana's return could mean Alex Meyer is bumped to the bullpen or back to the minors. The White Sox have the best record in the AL and are no slouches offensively, so you should certainly think twice before activating Santana and throwing him back into your starting lineups immediately.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier has never hit higher than .244, so his .204 average is expected to be part of the package. Keep him in your lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Berrios is the team's top hurler prospect and is showing signs that he's here to stay. He should be picked up off waivers in mixed leagues.
Mon, 02 May 2016 21:49:13 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Give Plouffe a game or two to prove his health before trusting him again in seasonal fantasy leagues. The same applies to DFS play.

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana (back) could come off the disabled list to face the Chicago White Sox Saturday, May 7, if he doesn't suffer any setbacks during a 30- or 40-pitch simulated game Tuesday, May 3.
Fantasy Tip: Santana, who is the Twins' ace of the staff, should've remained stashed in all formats after landing on the DL. You may want to keep him out in his first start back if it's against the White Sox this weekend, though. Chicago has been clicking to begin the year and are one of the more dangerous lineups in the AL.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins went on the disabled list weeks ago, and it turns out his injury was worse than the team initially thought. When he's built up enough strength in his shoulder, he'll be able to begin a throwing program. In the meantime, Kevin Jepsen will continue to close games, though he's been shaky at times thus far in the interim.
