Twins | Miguel Sano drives in three runs

Sun, 29 May 2016 06:08:38 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Miguel Sano went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI during the Twins' 6-5 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday, May 28.

Fantasy Tip: Sano has powered up in May with seven home runs and 15 RBI. He remains a solid fantasy option because of his immense power potential and should be started with confidence in all setups. Just remember, Sano is going to be an anchor for your batting average and currently sits with a .234 mark.

Twins | Kurt Suzuki day-to-day

Sun, 29 May 2016 06:02:09 -0700

Minnesota Twins C Kurt Suzuki (head) left the game in the third inning Saturday, May 28, because of concussion-like symptoms. The team said Suzuki passed the concussion protocol and is considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Suzuki is a non-factor outside of cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues, and he is even a poor option in those formats given his .200/.257/.284 slash line this season. Juan Centeno projects to handle backstop duty in the meantime, but he is nothing more than a desperation own and start in all fantasy formats.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe has a bone bruise

Sun, 29 May 2016 05:53:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe's (knee) MRI exam on his right knee revealed a bone bruise but no ligament damage, and he is hopeful to play against the Oakland Athletics Monday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe is a low-end option at the hot corner in deeper formats, but he's been limited to just 31 games this season because of injuries and owns an underwhelming .248/.270/.376 slash line. Stay tuned for updates, but in the majority of mixed leagues, Plouffe doesn't move the needle enough to be rostered.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe out Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 15:58:37 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (knee) is out Saturday, May 28, due to a knee sprain. 3B Eduardo Nunez is in Plouffe's place and will hit leadoff against Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe still hasn't gotten the full diagnosis on what's up with the knee, with the exception of missing games. Stay tuned for more details and bench Plouffe accordingly. Nunez is worth activating in DFS leagues Saturday night, as he has four homers in May and a nice .310 average against AL pitching.

Twins | Pat Dean schools M's

Sat, 28 May 2016 00:34:36 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Pat Dean shut down the Seattle Mariners on Friday, May 27, working seven innings and allowing just two runs on four hits. He walked none and struck out eight to earn his first major-league win.

Fantasy Tip: In his two starts, Dean has allowed four runs in 13 innings while fanning 13. It's an encouraging start for the Boston College product, but the finesse lefty wasn't a strikeout pitcher in the minors so expect big-league hitters to start squaring him up once they get more looks. Still, those in AL-only leagues can take a shot to see if this Dean keeps grading on a curve... or, well, at least throwing them.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe sprains knee

Sat, 28 May 2016 00:21:01 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (knee) left the team's game against the Seattle Mariners in the fourth inning on Friday, May 27, with what was called a mild MCL sprain in his right knee. Manager Paul Molitor indicated Plouffe would undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe has struggled of late, 3-for-27 in his last seven games, so perhaps a couple days off to rest his mildly sprained knee would be a blessing in disguise. We know Plouffe has good power, but right now he's only worth owning in AL-only leagues and maybe as a stash candidate in deep mixed setups.

Twins | Eduardo Escobar sitting

Fri, 27 May 2016 16:05:08 -0700

Minnesota Twins SS Eduardo Escobar is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 27. SS Eduardo Nunez is playing the 6 and is hitting leadoff against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a lack of power, Nunez has done nothing but produce for the Twins this year with a .314/.347/.482 slash line with four home runs, 19 RBI and eight stolen bases as a utility player. As long as he keeps hitting, the Twins will find a spot for him, and it is likely to come at the expense of Escobar. He's great depth in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Against King Felix, he's a contrarian play in daily games hitting leadoff.

Twins | Brian Dozier, Miguel Sano shake slumps

Thu, 26 May 2016 10:01:42 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier and OF Miguel Sano both broke out of power slumps with home runs Wednesday, May 25. Dozier struck out twice and lined out in his other at-bats, but manager Paul Molitor liked that Dozier wasn't trying to pull everything. Sano struck out his first time up and entered the game with a league-high 66 strikeouts. Molitor sees Sano getting through his funk at the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier's low batting average on balls in play (.217) suggests more hits and home runs are in his future. After all, he did club 28 long balls a season ago. If the Dozier owner in your league is frustrated, take a gander at buying low. With Sano, you get what you see; tons of elite power potential as a 30-homer candidate but also a lot of swings and misses. He'll kill your average but aid you in power.

Twins | Byron Buxton ablaze on the farm

Thu, 26 May 2016 07:16:46 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Byron Buxton is hitting .380 with five homers and 11 RBI in 71 May at-bats at Class AAA Rochester.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably a matter of days before Buxton returns to the majors. Start picking him up in deeper leagues in anticipation.

Twins | Miguel Sano homers Wednesday

Wed, 25 May 2016 17:57:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Miguel Sano went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in a victory over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Sano is batting just .221 with an MLB-leading 67 strikeouts through 45 games and had collected just two hits in his previous 24 at-bats before homering in the fifth inning Wednesday. DFS players should wait for him to string together several solid performances at the plate before relying on him again

Twins | Tyler Duffey defeats Kansas City

Wed, 25 May 2016 17:54:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey (2-3) allowed five runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 25, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Minnesota's starting rotation has recorded just six wins to date and Duffey has one-third of those wins, making him the only starter on the team with multiple victories. This feat is even more amazing considering that he began the season in the minors. That being said, Duffey is only worth rostering in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Twins | Glen Perkins moved to 60-day DL

Wed, 25 May 2016 17:45:50 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, May 25, in order to create room for RP Buddy Boshers on the 40-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: As a result of the move, Perkins will be ineligible to return from the disabled list before June 10. He will return to the closer's role for Minnesota once he is activated and deserves to be stashed in all seasonal leagues. In the interim, Kevin Jepsen will continue to see save opportunities. Boshers is a 28-year-old lefty who possesses little fantasy value in any format.

Twins | Joe Mauer hits third

Wed, 25 May 2016 08:54:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is hitting third Wednesday, May 25, with 3B Eduardo Nunez remaining in the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer hasn't done much with a .213-2-6 line this month, but the same can be said for the entire offense. He has a so-so matchup against Dillon Gee, but the three-hole gives him some upside today. Nunez has surprised with a .303-3-17 line this year, and he's a solid play in the low end today.

Twins | Brian Dozier returns

Wed, 25 May 2016 08:54:19 -0700

Minnesota Twins 2B Brian Dozier returned to the lineup Wednesday, May 25, and he's hitting second. 3B Trevor Plouffe is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier is struggling with a .211-1-4 line this month. Dillon Gee has a decent 2.90 ERA, but he doesn't strike much fear in the matchup. However, Dozier's struggles put him in a wait-and-see approach in DFS.

Twins | Max Kepler on minors DL

Tue, 24 May 2016 16:32:35 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Max Kepler (groin) was put on the minor league disabled list with Class AAA Rochester with a left groin strain Tuesday, May 24.

Fantasy Tip: Kepler had a brief call-up to the Twins last month but was hitting .275 with one home run and 17 RBI for Rochester. He's the Twins' second ranked prospect this year and could be back up later when rosters expand. He has a keen eye at the plate and should develop more power, but right now he's strictly a guy to monitor in keeper leagues.
