Minnesota Twins news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Escobar's return hurts the fantasy value of Eduardo Nunez, who has been one of Minnesota's more consistent hitters. Nunez should remain more attractive for his speed than Escobar, though, in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Escobar had no home runs and a .237 average before he was injured.

Fantasy Tip: Dozier (.199-4-14) could certainly use a break to clear his head. He's hitting .211 with nine strikeouts this month and hasn't homered since May 4. If you have better options at second base, you should consider benching him in mixed leagues until he shows life. Nunez continues to hit and is now batting .320 with eight stolen bases in 34 games. He'll lose some playing time with Eduardo Escobar back from the DL, but Nunez remains attractive in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his high average and speed.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar has some AL-only value, but he's not much of an option in mixed leagues. He's hitting .237 with six RBI.

Minnesota Twins OF Miguel Sano is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marcus Stroman Sunday, May 22. OF Oswaldo Arcia will start at right field, while OF Robbie Grossman will start in left field and is batting sixth.
Fantasy Tip: Grossman has gone 4-for-7 with one home run and three RBI over the last two games and is a decent option in some daily fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins will return to the ninth-inning role as soon as he is activated from the disabled list, so he should remain stashed in all fantasy formats. Kevin Jepsen will continue serving as Minnesota's interim closer, although he has been somewhat shaky recently, so Trevor May could see some save opportunities as well.

Fantasy Tip: If only Brian Dozier wasn't hitting .204, Minnesota might be fielding a much better offense right now. Not much has gone right for the 11-win Twins, but Nunez is batting .331 and roughly on pace to produce 12 homers, 68 RBI and 32 steals at a weak fantasy position. Until Nunez starts showing signs of slowing down, he needs to be in fantasy lineups just about every day.
Sat, 21 May 2016 08:55:52 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Grossman went 3-for-4 in his first game since being recalled and is back in the starting lineup. Grossman can be an option for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues, but owners in most leagues should be able to find better players to use.

Minnesota Twins OF Miguel Sano will serve as the designated hitter against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, May 21. OF Darin Mastroianni will start in right field and is batting seventh in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Sano has been inconsistent at the plate this month but has recorded four home runs and eight RBI during that span. He can be a decent starting option in most leagues. Mastroianni has gone hitless in his eight plate appearances this season and should be avoided in all leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Park has gone hitless in each of his last three games and is hitting only .233 so far this season. Owners in daily fantasy leagues probably will be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton's performance in the majors to date has disappointed, but he still has all the tools that made him one of the top prospects. Stash him in AL-only formats and hope his next stint with Minnesota proves to be a productive one.

Fantasy Tip: Meyer has been dealing with right shoulder fatigue and there is no timetable for his return from the disabled list. The 25-year-old righty is 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA in two appearances (one start) at the MLB level this year and is 1-1 with a 1.04 ERA in three games (two starts) with Class AAA Rochester. Meyer's fantasy value is limited to deep AL-only leagues at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Once he returns to the big club, Escobar and Eduardo Nunez project to split time at shortstop. Nunez has been excellent thus far, though, so Escobar might be on the lesser half of the timeshare. Nunez has a .327/.367/.464 slash line with 15 runs, 14 RBI and seven stolen bases through 31 games. Stay tuned for updates.

Fantasy Tip: Arcia is struggling to find his game, but he remains a decent depth piece in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Remember, he hit 20 home runs through just 410 plate appearances in 2014, and he is still only 25. This is Grossman's season debut, and he is nothing more than a low-priced flier in daily contests Friday.
Fri, 20 May 2016 14:20:23 -0700
Minnesota Twins DH Byung Ho Park is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. 3B Jorge Polanco is drawing into the starting lineup at second base and is batting sixth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Friday.
Fantasy Tip: Park's .233 batting average is a drag, but if you knew he would have nine home runs by May 20 at the draft table, you would have gladly taken it. He should take a run at 30 bombs for the campaign, and there is room for the average to improve. Polanco has 48 career plate appearances and is nothing more than a desperation flier in all fantasy formats Friday.
Fri, 20 May 2016 14:12:45 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Pillar is a viable starter in deep leagues, but he is currently reeling along an 0-for-17 stretch, so a night off might help him return to form. In his previous 26 games since being demoted down the lineup, Pillar returned 10 runs, two home runs, 12 RBI, three stolen bases and a .323/.352/.485 slash line. There's upside, but expect the peaks and valleys to continue. Carrera is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests Friday, as he has started the season 16-for-45 (.356 batting average) at the dish.
