Minnesota Twins news, rumors and injuries

Minnesota Twins OF Robbie Grossman, SS Eduardo Escobar and C Kurt Suzuki are not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Sunday, July 24. SS Eduardo Nunez will start at shortstop, while 1B Kennys Vargas will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth. OF Eddie Rosario will start in left field and is batting seven, while C Juan Centeno will start at catcher and is batting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Vargas is hitting .211 with one RBI over the last seven days and probably will not be the best starting candidate for most owners. Rosario should be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues because he is hitting .396 with two home runs and seven RBI in July. Centeno is hitting .245 this season and would only have value in two-catcher leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Nunez entered 0-for-11 over the past three games, so this game was necessary to quell the fears of Nunez's impatient fantasy owners.

Fantasy Tip: Sano has back-to-back three-hit games, as something about Boston pitching and Fenway Park certainly agrees with him. He is a must-start for the series finale Sunday in DFS play.

Fantasy Tip: Rosario has five multi-hit games over the past 11 outings to raise his average from .198 to .262 just since July 6. He has re-emerged as a solid fantasy option in most AL-only leagues while running hot.

Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco allowed six earned runs, six hits and three walks over just two innings in a no-decision Saturday, July 23, against the Boston Red Sox. He threw just 35 of his 65 pitches for strikes.
Fantasy Tip: Nolasco entered with three straight quality starts in the month of July, but this egg-laying will put doubt in the minds of fantasy owners yet again. He remains useful only in the deepest of AL fantasy formats at this point.

Minnesota Twins C Kurt Suzuki (chin) left the game against the Boston Red Sox Saturday, July 23, after taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask. He received several stitches on his chin but did not suffer a concussion.
Fantasy Tip: Suzuki should be considered day-to-day. He went 1-for-1 with an RBI double and a run scored before leaving Saturday's contest and is batting .288 with five home runs and 33 RBI through 67 games this season.

Fantasy Tip: Sano has a .275-4-9 line in 40 at-bats against left-handers this year. He's a high-end option against David Price.

Fantasy Tip: Vargas has a decent .308-3-4 line in 39 at-bats. He's a low-end option against David Price.

Fantasy Tip: Gibson turned in one of his best outings of the season against one of the league's most prolific offenses, allowing no hits over his final seven innings. Going forward, he should still be viewed as a risky play due to his inconsistency and will make his next scheduled start versus the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, July 28.
Fri, 22 Jul 2016 15:25:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gibson really is a shaky matchup play in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats, and he's striking out just 6.4 hitters per nine innings. You would be very wise to avoid him on the road against the BoSox, one of the most potent hitting lineups in all of baseball.
Fri, 22 Jul 2016 14:13:33 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Plouffe has played just 58 games this season and sits with a lowly .252/.283/.399 slash line. He's nothing more than a potential stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Additionally, the Twins have some promising young bats hitting while in his absence, so Plouffe's playing time might not be as consistent as it was in the past.

Minnesota Twins 1B Kennys Vargas is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 22. SS Eduardo Escobar draws into the lineup at shortstop and is batting sixth against Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez Friday.
Fantasy Tip: Vargas is 12-for-39 with a .718 slugging percentage over 12 games since being recalled. If you're chasing power, he's a worthy add in all settings. Escobar is nothing more than a desperation flier in daily contests and depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only seasonal leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Buxton cannot gain any traction at the dish and owns a .199/.246/.337 slash line through 182 plate appearances. It isn't out of the question to cut ties with the promising youngster. Rosario is heating up with a .348/.354/.609 line in July, and he could begin to see more consistent playing time if he continues to surge at the dish. Rosario is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests Thursday, too.

Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana continued his solid pitching as of late in his outing Wednesday, July 20, against the Detroit Tigers, though it only resulted in a no-decision. The right-hander went seven strong, surrendering one run on six hits and a walk. He also picked up a pair of strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: Although Santana's strikeout totals have usually been low, he's now recorded a quality start in five of his last six assignments, en route to bringing his ERA down from 5.10 to 3.93 over that stretch. Considering his proven track record over many years at this level, and the fact his home starts occur in a pitcher's park, owners should be considering adding Santana across most formats.

Minnesota Twins OF Max Kepler went 1-for-3 with his 10th home run of the season Wednesday, July 20, opposite the Detroit Tigers. The long ball produced his lone run scored and RBI in the contest, and he also drew a walk.
Fantasy Tip: Remarkably, that's now seven homers in July for the rookie, as he previously only had three entering the month. Although he also owns a discouraging .229/.309/.488 slash line for the season, Kepler is someone who should probably be on the radar in deep leagues, if only for his power and nothing else. He's also getting at-bats in Minnesota's heart of the batting order.
