Milwaukee Brewers news, rumors and injuriesWed, 19 Jun 2013 11:57:08 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers OF Caleb Gindl is expected to start in right field in the next two games because OF Norichika Aoki has been placed on the paternity list. Share: Brewers | Norichika Aoki placed on paternity list Wed, 19 Jun 2013 11:14:09 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers have placed OF Norichika Aoki on the paternity list. In a corresponding move, the team recalled OF Josh Prince from Triple-A Nashville. Share: Brewers | Two candidates to start Saturday Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:57:37 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers need a fifth starter Saturday, June 22, against the Atlanta Braves, and the candidates are Ps Tom Gorzelanny and Donovan Hand, assuming the bullpen isn't taxed in the days prior. Share: Brewers | Hiram Burgos makes rehab start Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:57:00 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Hiram Burgos (shoulder) allowed two runs and five hits over four innings in a minor-league rehab appearance with Class A Brevard County Tuesday, June 18. He will make one more appearance, and it is uncertain after that whether he'll return to the majors or Triple-A Nashville. Share: Brewers | Chris Narveson bounced around in minors Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:56:20 -0700 While Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Narveson (finger) has sufficiently built up his pitch count during a minor-league rehab assignment, he has an 8.31 ERA and 1.692 WHIP in four starts for Triple-A Nashville. "If we're going to take him here, we need to see (better results)," manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday, June 18. Fantasy Tip: Roenicke added that he cannot guarantee Narveson a rotation spot, so those desperate for starting pitching in NL-only fantasy leagues will want to see how Narveson fares when he returns before using a roster spot on him. Share: Brewers | Marco Estrada to begin rehab Thursday Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:55:50 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Marco Estrada (hamstring) threw a 45-pitch side session Monday, June 17. If he receives clearance in a visit scheduled with a team physician Wednesday, June 19, he will pitch for Class A Wisconsin in a minor-league rehab appearance. Estrada is likely to need only one minor-league rehab appearance, according to manager Ron Roenicke. Share: Brewers | Ryan Braun visits specialist Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:54:39 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (thumb) was in Phoenix Tuesday, June 18, to see a hand specialist. Assistant general manager Gord Ash said the trip represented "a due diligence second opinion" on the injury which landed Braun on the 15-day disabled list. Ash said Braun was expected to rejoin the team Wednesday, June 19, and he is eligible for reinstatement from the DL June 25. Fantasy Tip: With a potential return next Tuesday, Braun is a risky start heading into the upcoming fantasy period. Keep him reserved until he is officially activated from the DL and able to prove his health in one full game without any setbacks. Share: Brewers | Johnny Hellweg receiving rest Tue, 18 Jun 2013 12:48:57 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Johnny Hellweg hasn't made a start for Triple-A Nashville since June 11, and he won't pitch in the next few days. The team is having him rest so that they "don't face inning limits later in the year." Ps Jimmy Nelson and Tyler Thornburg, who are also with Nashville, will be on a similar plan. Hellweg is 6-4 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 starts (70 2/3 innings). He's struck out 48, walked 44 and is limiting opponents to a .197 average. Fantasy Tip: Hellweg, Nelson and Thornburg could be September call-ups, but it's not realistic to expect them before that. They're probably strictly NL-only commodities if they make their major league debuts this season. Share: Brewers | Jonathan Lucroy sizzling Tue, 18 Jun 2013 07:50:42 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy is hitting .385 with three homers and 20 RBIs in his last 22 games to raise his average from .208 to .276. Share: Brewers | Devin Williams signs Mon, 17 Jun 2013 00:32:10 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers finalized a $1.35 million contract Sunday, June 16, with P Devin Williams, their top pick (second round, 54th overall) in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. Williams received a bonus in excess of the $1,017,300 slotted by Major League Baseball. Part of his package included compensation for forgoing a scholarship to the University of Missouri, which is common practice for teams signing high school picks. He will report to Phoenix on Monday, June 17, for assignment with the Brewers' Rookie League affiliate. Share: Brewers | Chris Narveson close to return Sun, 16 Jun 2013 12:48:25 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Narveson (finger) could be activated from the disabled list later this week. Share: Brewers | Mike Fiers suffers broken arm Saturday Sun, 16 Jun 2013 11:43:05 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers minor league SP Mike Fiers (arm), currently playing for Triple-A Nashville, suffered a broken right arm after he was struck on the forearm by a line drive off the bat of Kevin Kouzmanoff Saturday, June 15. He is expected to be sidelined for nine to 12 weeks. Share: Brewers | Ryan Braun hopes to return when eligible Sat, 15 Jun 2013 18:04:35 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (hand) said he hopes to come off the 15-day disabled list when he is first eligible. Share: Brewers | Ryan Braun lands on DL Fri, 14 Jun 2013 20:19:35 -0700 Updating a previous report, the Milwaukee Brewers officially placed OF Ryan Braun (thumb) on the 15-day disabled list Friday, June 14. The team will recall OF Caleb Gindl from Triple-A Nashville in the corresponding move Saturday, June 15. Fantasy Tip: With Braun sidelined, Logan Schafer will continue to see regular at-bats. He is a must-have in NL-only fantasy leagues while seeing regular time, and he could be a desperation option in deeper mixed formats. Share: Brewers | Ryan Braun likely to hit DLFri, 14 Jun 2013 15:52:10 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (hand) appears bound for the disabled list after experiencing more sharp pain in his right hand during batting practice Friday, June 14. It was the first time he had swung in days as he tried to rest what he described as an inflamed nerve between his right thumb and index finger. On one of the first swings he took, he grimaced. "More of the same," Braun said he felt. "It basically has been the same for a while. Everything we have tried to get to the point where I can take a regular swing has not helped. We've tried different wraps on the bat, different padding on the batting gloves. We've basically tried everything we can think of." Fantasy Tip: If they indeed disable him, Logan Schafer would net regular at-bats and could be a desperation deep-mixed option for five-outfielder leagues. He's more suitable for single-universe formats, though. Of course, with Braun's Biogenesis fate potentially coming down this season, Schafer could have more time than expected, though that might be a long shot, and Corey Hart may return next month, as well.
