Milwaukee Brewers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Braun is at .319-14-45 with 11 stolen bases, giving fantasy owners a mix of power and speed. He's a legitimate 20-20 threat and a powerful threat in all formats.
Mon, 25 Jul 2016 23:14:38 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Maldonado is on the mind of many fantasy owners because Jonathan Lucroy will likely be traded prior to the deadline. He's currently hitting .157-3-5 in 31 games and doesn't carry much fantasy value at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Santana has been limited to just 40 games this season and owns an underwhelming .234/.347/.391 slash line. He remains a potential stash candidate in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, but you shouldn't fret replacing him with a healthy contributor, either.

Milwaukee Brewers 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 25. C Jonathan Lucroy is starting at first base and batting fourth, and C Martin Maldonado is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Arizona Dimaondbacks SP Braden Shipley Monday.
Fantasy Tip: Carter is struggling in July with a .167/.282/.417 slash line, but eight of his 10 hits have gone for extra bases, which highlights his upside and fantasy relevance. With 22 home runs and 55 RBI for the season, he should be owned in all seasonal leagues. Lucroy is a top-tier backstop in all fantasy formats, and playing first base Monday could be an opportunity to showcase his flexibility and increase his trade value. Maldonado is a fantasy afterthought.

Milwaukee Brewers 3B Will Middlebrooks (leg) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a lower right leg strain Monday, July 25, and OF Keon Broxton was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks had only three hits in 27 at-bats (.111) this year, so he can be dropped in even the deepest of NL-only leagues. Broxton has speed to burn but hit just .125 (8-for-64) this year and is unlikely to receive regular playing time. Only add him in NL leagues if you need some speed.
Sun, 24 Jul 2016 12:59:28 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Owners should keep an eye on the situation to see if Middlebrooks will be out for an extended period of time. He is mostly a bench player for the Brewers and should be avoided in most leagues.

Milwaukee Brewers OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis and OF Ramon Flores are not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester Sunday, July 24. 3B Hernan Perez will start in right field, while 3B Will Middlebrooks will start at third base and is batting seventh. OF Jake Elmore will start in center field and is batting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks has gone 3-for-9 against left-handed pitchers since being recalled from the minor leagues but should be avoided in most leagues. Elmore is hitting only .125 since joining the team and should not be used by owners.
Sat, 23 Jul 2016 19:25:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Even after the big game, Nieuwenhuis' average sits at an ugly .207. He can remain on the waiver wire.
Fri, 22 Jul 2016 22:12:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Braun's power outage lasted 15 games and 59 at-bats, which, given Braun's history and spot in the batting order, is rather stunning. He has hit safely in each game since the All-Star break and remains a solid OF2 in all formats

Milwaukee Brewers 3B Hernan Perez went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a steal in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs Friday, July 22, and he has hit safely in all six games he has played in since the All-Star break, recording four straight multi-hit games.
Fantasy Tip: His speed alone makes him worth considering in NL-only formats, and Perez could make a great DFS sleeper during his current hot streak.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce is a great low-priced flier in daily contests Thursday. Garza has allowed a .366 wOBA to lefty bats over the past two seasons, and Joyce owns a .920 OPS against right-handed hurlers this season. Make sure to sub out Marte where you can Thursday, especially in daily contests.

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B/1B David Freese is starting at third base and batting fifth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza Thursday, July 21. Pirates SS/3B Jung Ho Kang is not in the starting lineup Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Freese continues to have a solid campaign and sits with 42 runs, 10 home runs, 40 RBI and a .289/.368/.467 slash line. He's worth starting in deep mixed leagues. Kang is batting just .176 in July and has some legal concerns looming. It isn't out of the question to replace him in shallow leagues.

Milwaukee Brewers OF Jake Elmore is starting in center field and batting second against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Thursday, July 21. Brewers OF Ramon Flores is not in the starting lineup Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Elmore has reached the majors with five different teams over the past five years and owns a .567 OPS through 151 career games. Still, hitting second could make him a potential punt play in daily contests Thursday. Flores is doing very little with the consistent playing time he's receiving, and he's nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 21. C Martin Maldonado is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Lucroy is having a banner season with 44 runs, 12 home runs, 48 RBI, five stolen bases and a .305/.362/.492 slash line. Sub him out where you can in seasonal leagues and continue to view the backstop as a slam-dunk starter in all formats. He's also likely to receive a fantasy boost with a trade to a contender probable. Maldonado owns a .580 OPS over the past two seasons and is nothing more than a desperation flier in daily contests Thursday. However, he should see an uptick in playing time if Lucroy is traded, which would make Maldonado a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only settings.

Fantasy Tip: Santana has been very slow to heal from his elbow ailment and hasn't played since June 7. Assuming he has no setbacks, he could be back later this month or in early August. Fantasy owners aren't excited to see him back, though, as he was disappointing with a .234 average, four home runs and 13 RBI in 128 at-bats. He could rebound for those in deep mixed and NL-only leagues when he's back, but take a wait-and-see approach.
