Milwaukee Brewers news, rumors and injuriesWed, 22 May 2013 10:17:42 -0700 Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse (elbow) is missing his start on Saturday, May 25, because of irritation in his right elbow. He began experiencing discomfort in the joint "two or three starts ago," according to manager Ron Roenicke. Lohse is tentatively scheduled to return to the rotation for one of the team's games against the Minnesota Twins next week. Fantasy Tip: This sounds as if it will turn out to be nothing major, but fantasy owners won't get a better idea until there's an update following whatever side work Lohse does or treatment he has. Missing spring training alone isn't a reason to skip a start, so it calls into question Milwaukee's decision-making just a little. Mike Fiers, who's scheduled to take Lohse's turn on Saturday, may stick around longer if the problem is more serious than hoped. Share: Brewers | Kyle Lohse to miss start Wed, 22 May 2013 08:40:03 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Kyle Lohse (elbow) has right elbow irritation and will miss his next start. P Mike Fiers will make the start. Fantasy Tip: Hopefully, one missed start, and perhaps a cortisone injection will do the trick for Lohse. Lohse is 1-5 with a 3.76 ERA and has a string of bad luck, stemming back to his struggles with free agency. Fiers had a good stretch of starts last season and showed promise. He's worth a pickup in NL-only leagues. Share: Brewers | Alan Williams suspended Tue, 21 May 2013 14:39:41 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers P Alan Williams was suspended 50 games Tuesday, May 21, under minor league baseball's drug program after his second positive test for a drug of abuse. Williams was 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts and 10 relief outings with Double-A Huntsville. Share: Brewers | Norichika Aoki hot Mon, 20 May 2013 11:27:18 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers OF Norichika Aoki is hitting .533 (16-for-30) with four three-hit games in his last seven games, and he's batting .410 (16-for-39) against the St. Louis Cardinals. Share: Brewers | Chris Narveson close to beginning rehab assignment Sun, 19 May 2013 12:27:47 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Narveson (finger) threw curveballs Friday, May 17, marking the first time he had done so since being placed on the disabled list. Manager Ron Roenicke said it was the final test for Narveson before he is allowed to pitch in a rehab game. Share: Brewers | Tom Gorzelanny close to returning Sun, 19 May 2013 12:21:09 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers RP Tom Gorzelanny (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday, May 19, and pitch a simulated game Tuesday, May 21. He is expected to be activated from the disabled list before the end of the month. Share: Brewers | Aramis Ramirez not in lineup Sunday Sun, 19 May 2013 10:53:19 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers 3B Aramis Ramirez (knee) is not in the starting lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, May 19, because of a left knee injury. Share: Brewers | John Axford frustrated Thu, 16 May 2013 12:19:43 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers RP John Axford allowed a run in the eighth inning Tuesday, May 14, to blow a lead, and he left the game with an 0-3 record and a 9.20 ERA on the year. He also has three blown saves. "I definitely am frustrated," Axford said. "I can't lie about that, but I feel strong, I feel good and that's where I've got to keep building off of. The first four games of this season, that wasn't me, and that's something I can get a wash too and brush that away. I felt different; my mechanics weren't quite right." Axford insists that his mechanics are where they need to be and his velocity is better. Fantasy Tip: Axford hasn't helped his cause to eventually win back the closing duties from Jim Henderson, and now Francisco Rodriguez is in the picture. If Axford continues to pitch poorly, K-Rod could easily surpass him in the late-inning bullpen heirarchy. If you still own Axford in an NL-only league, it might be best to let him ride the bench for now. Share: Brewers | Chris Narveson throwing Thu, 16 May 2013 12:19:04 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SP Chris Narveson (finger) has thrown a light bullpen session during his rehab. Share: Brewers | Roster moves made Wed, 15 May 2013 20:34:05 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers optioned C Blake Lalli to Triple-A Nashville Wednesday, May 15, and transferred 3B Taylor Green (hip) from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list to make room for RP Francisco Rodriguez. Share: Brewers | Corey Hart unlikely to return May 30 Wed, 15 May 2013 20:33:01 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers 1B Corey Hart (knee) is running without assistance, but he is still unlikely to come off the 60-day disabled list May 30 when he is first eligible. Share: Brewers | Francisco Rodriguez being called up Wed, 15 May 2013 12:39:04 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers RP Francisco Rodriguez will be recalled from the minors Wednesday, May 15, with his opt-out date coming today. Fantasy Tip: K-Rod has extensive closing experience, but don't expect Ron Roenicke to immediately let him handle late-inning situations for Milwaukee. Jim Henderson as taken advantage of his opportunity to pitch in the ninth, and he hasn't allowed a run in his last four outings. Tuck Rodriguez away in extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats if you're speculating for saves down the road. Share: Brewers | Jean Segura working hard Tue, 14 May 2013 18:24:07 -0700 Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura has been working out with OF Ryan Braun, joining the All-Star in the weight room. "He came up to me and started asking a lot of questions (in spring training)," Braun said Tuesday, May 14. "I think he has a desire to get better. I think he's done better than anybody could have possibly hoped; he's been amazing to this point." 3B Aramis Ramirez has also decided to look out for Segura, mentoring him like veterans did for him back when he was coming up. Fantasy Tip: Working with two of the best players on the team shows Segura wants to get better, and fantasy owners have to love that he is continually trying to improve. He has emerged as a must-start fantasy option in all formats, and ranks among the Top 20 in the majors in batting average. Share: Brewers | Offer Jean Segura an extension Tue, 14 May 2013 13:25:22 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers offered SS Jean Segura a long-term contract about a month ago, according to his agent, Joe Klein. However, Klein said the two sides aren't close to agreeing on anything because Segura is in the early stages of his career. Segura is hitting .368 with a 1.000 OPS, six home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. He is making $492,000 this year. Fantasy Tip: Segura is the real deal at shortstop, and the Brewers clearly realize that. He has shown some surprising power this year, and his speed is excellent. He must be owned in all fantasy baseball leagues. Share: Brewers | Tom Gorzelanny placed on DL Sat, 11 May 2013 17:29:10 -0700 The Milwaukee Brewers have placed RP Tom Gorzelanny (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder tendinitis. In a corresponding move, the team recalled SP Mike Fiers from Single-A Brevard County. Share: ![]() |
