Fantasy Baseball Closer Hot Seat: Jim Johnson, Marlins, more Jim Johnson not flying lately. Steve Cishek not alone in saves anymore. Plus updates on Fernando Rodney, Chris Perez and Los Angeles Dodgers news, rumors and injuriesThu, 23 May 2013 16:00:35 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers upper management did not take offense to manager Don Mattingly's recent negative comments about the organization, and his job isn't in danger because of them. A meeting after the game Tuesday, May 21, between Mattingly and general manager Ned Colletti was said to have cleared the air. Share: Dodgers | Andre Ethier benched Wed, 22 May 2013 12:51:19 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly didn't deny that he wasn't sending a message by benching OF Andre Ethier Wednesday, May 22, after Ethier made the wrong read on a safety bunt squeeze and was thrown out at the plate Tuesday, May 21. "There's a touch of a difference between saying you're giving your best effort and you're willing to fight for something," Mattingly said. "Some guys go to another level for that price, will do whatever it takes to win a game … that inside, you're not beating me today. There's something there you can't measure with SABR-metrics. You can't put a number on it." Fantasy Tip: Ethier looks to be in the dog house a bit here, but it remains to be seen if that means more playing time for Scott Van Slyke. Ethier's production has dropped in recent seasons, and it may be just another reason why the Dodgers are considering calling up Yasiel Puig and Joc Pederson. Share: Dodgers | Yasiel Puig, Joc Pederson getting consideration Wed, 22 May 2013 09:24:00 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers OFs Yasiel Puig and Joc Pederson have been discussed as possible call-ups, according to manager Don Mattingly. Fantasy Tip: Puig, 22, had an incredible spring but wasn't realistically an option prior to the season because of his lack of experience about advanced Class A ball. Pederson, 21, didn't have much of a chance to showcase his abilities in ST for the same reason. Puig (.314/.385/.579, 10 stolen bases) and Pederson (.327/.400/.554, 13 stolen bases) have dominated in the Double-A Southern League in the early going. This is indicative of how desperate the Dodgers may be, but the promotion of either might be rash and thus seems unlikely. Still, both players are clearly on a fast track and would deserve immediate fantasy consideration because of their upside. Share: Dodgers | A.J. Ellis expected to sit Wednesday Tue, 21 May 2013 20:09:01 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday, May 21, that he plans to rest C A.J. Ellis Wednesday, May 22. C Ramon Hernandez is expected to make the start in his absence. Share: Dodgers | Mark Ellis gets scheduled day off Tue, 21 May 2013 20:08:35 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Mark Ellis (rest) was given a day off to rest Tuesday, May 21, as manager Don Mattingly eases him back into the lineup. Share: Dodgers | Scott Elbert might return soon Tue, 21 May 2013 20:08:06 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers P Scott Elbert (elbow) might be back with the team within the next week. He is scheduled to pitch three times in four days this week during his minor-league rehab assignment. Manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday, May 21, that Elbert's velocity has increased in recent appearances to 90-92 mph. Share: Dodgers | Josh Beckett throws on flat ground Tue, 21 May 2013 20:07:26 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers SP Josh Beckett (groin) was able to throw on flat ground Tuesday, May 21, without discomfort in his strained groin muscle. He was unable to do that over the weekend. He is expected to throw from a mound before he's allowed to run. Share: Dodgers | Hanley Ramirez running Tue, 21 May 2013 12:54:26 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers SS Hanley Ramirez (hamstring) is doing running drills Tuesday, May 21. Fantasy Tip: It appears as though it may be tough for Ramirez to beat his initial timetable of four weeks. There's a chance that the Dodgers shift Ramirez back to third base when he's ready to return in order to keep Dee Gordon at shortstop. Share: Dodgers | Ted Lilly expected to start Saturday Tue, 21 May 2013 11:18:39 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers SP Ted Lilly is expected to start against the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday, May 25. Fantasy Tip: Lilly should be more of a spot starter in deep mixed leagues, and his matchup against the Red Birds in his return to the rotation this weekend isn't intriguing one bit. Share: Dodgers | GM supports Don Mattingly Mon, 20 May 2013 16:18:40 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said manager Don Mattingly is "doing fine" despite the team's last-place showing in the National League West. There is speculation that Mattingly may be on the hot seat after the slow start. Share: Dodgers | Jerry Hairston has tendonitis Mon, 20 May 2013 15:41:22 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers INF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr. (knee) is dealing with tendonitis in his knee. Share: Dodgers | Ted Lilly will enter rotation Mon, 20 May 2013 15:25:22 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers SP Ted Lilly will return to the starting rotation, but he'll be in the bullpen for the next couple of days. Share: Dodgers | Ted Lilly activated Mon, 20 May 2013 13:44:42 -0700 The Los Angeles Dodgers activated SP Ted Lilly (rib cage, neck) from the 15-day disabled list Monday, May 20, and optioned SP Matt Magill to the minors in a corresponding move. Fantasy Tip: If Lilly finds himself back in the rotation, he could be an option for deep mixed league rosters, but playing the matchups with this aging southpaw is probably the wiser decision. Share: Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke has X-rays Mon, 20 May 2013 11:23:53 -0700 X-rays on Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke (leg) came back negative after he hit a ball off his lower left leg on two straight pitches Sunday, May 19. Share: Dodgers | Scott Van Slyke injured Sun, 19 May 2013 20:10:21 -0700 Los Angeles Dodgers OF Scott Van Slyke (leg) left the game Sunday, May 19, against the Atlanta Braves after fouling a pitch off his leg.
