Dodgers | Clayton Kershaw blanks San Diego

Sun, 01 May 2016 18:20:34 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw struck out 14 in a three-hit shutout against the San Diego Padres Sunday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: He bounced back from a rare rough outing, and Kershaw has now struck out at least 10 in three straight and owns a 1.96 ERA for the year. He is on his way to another dominant campaign.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig returns after a day off

Sun, 01 May 2016 12:24:19 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is in the lineup Sunday, May 01, against San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz and will bat leadoff. The Dodgers will get a host of other regulars a day off, however, as 2B Chase Utley, C Yasmani Grandal, OF Carl Crawford and OF Joc Pederson are not starting. In their place, OF Enrique Hernandez will occupy left field and bat second, 2B/3B Howie Kendrick will play second base and hit fifth, OF Trayce Thompson will spell Pederson in center and bat sixth, and C A.J. Ellis will catch and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Puig is mired in a 7-for-51 slump since the middle of April following a hot start and is probably needs to be benched in most leagues for now, although manager Dave Roberts is obviously showing a lot of faith in his struggling slugger by batting him leadoff today. Utley is getting a rest day and has cooled slightly after batting over .300 for most of April, but he should be inserted back in lineups Tuesday when the Dodgers hit the road to face the Tampa Bay Rays.

Dodgers | Ross Stripling struggles vs. Friars

Sun, 01 May 2016 05:26:53 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Ross Stripling allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters during the Dodgers' 5-2 loss to the San Diego Padres Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Stripling is likely best left to cavernous mixed and NL-only formats, especially after failing to take advantage of the light-hitting Padres. His 7.3 K/9 offers some upside, but he also sits with an underwhelming 4.33 ERA and 1.41 WHIP.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig out Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 14:51:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is out of the lineup Saturday, April 30, with OF Enrique Hernandez hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez is hitless in 11 at-bats this week but has some thump. He's a risky low-end flyer with a decent matchup against Colin Rea.

Dodgers | Howie Kendrick the odd-man out

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:59:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. 2B Chase Utley is starting at the keystone and hitting leadoff against San Diego Padres SP Cesar Vargas.

Fantasy Tip: Utley is off to a fine start, hitting .307 with five RBI in 75 at-bats. As long as he stays hot, Kendrick will likely lose playing time against right-handed pitchers, especially since he's only hitting .135/.151/.135. It's becoming harder to justify holding Kendrick in mixed affairs. Utley is a fine selection for daily rosters tonight against Vargas, who is making just his second major league start and first on the road.

Dodgers | Kenta Maeda touched up

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 21:52:50 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Kenta Maeda allowed four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five over 6 2/3 innings against the Miami Marlins Thursday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: After allowing just one run through his first four starts, Maeda had a rough seventh inning against the Marlins. He still owns excellent numbers overall and should be starting in all formats whenever he takes the mound.

Dodgers | Justin Turner with a day off

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 14:59:52 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 28. 2B Howie Kendrick is starting at the hot corner and is hitting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick is a daily pick tonight that you'll want to avoid. He's facing one of the more electric arms in the big leagues, and Kendrick comes into the game with a meager slash line of .143/.160/.143 with no homers or RBI in 49 at-bats.

Dodgers | Chase Utley receives night off

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:46:28 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27, opposite Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino.

Fantasy Tip: It's a lefty on the mound, so Utley gets the night off. Howie Kendrick is holding down the fort at second tonight, but with a .156/.174/.156 line through his first 45 at-bats, it's hard to trust him right now in any matchup.

Dodgers | Corey Seager moved to fifth

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:19:10 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager is batting fifth in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27, opposite Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino.

Fantasy Tip: Pretty interesting adjustment from manager Dave Roberts, as he has Yasiel Puig hitting in Seager's usual No. 2 hole. The 22-year-old sensation has put together an underwhelming .247/.303/.407 line thus far, so the intent of this move could be to take some pressure off Seager. This could also benefit his owners, as he should ideally see more runners on base in his at-bats. Puig owners get a boost, too, if he continues hitting second.

Dodgers | Joc Pederson gets night off again

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:18:09 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Joc Pederson (rest) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27, against Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino. OF Trayce Thompson is in his place in center field and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: For the second time in three days, Pederson finds himself on the bench, which isn't all that surprising with a left-hander on the mound. Thompson fared well in his last start on Monday, when he collected two hits, including a homer, so he might have some potential here for daily fantasy owners seeking a fine low-price bat from tonight's full slate.

Dodgers | Zach Lee back in minors

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 09:09:58 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zach Lee was optioned back to the minors when OF Carl Crawford (back) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: Lee didn't even throw a single pitch in the big leagues when he was up and in the bullpen for the Dodgers. He's one of the Dodgers' top pitching prospects, though, so keep an eye on him in NL-only and dynasty formats. In three starts for Class AAA Oklahoma City this year, he is 3-0 with a 1.56 ERA and 14 K's in 17 1/3 innings.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy throws bullpen

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 17:36:52 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) threw a bullpen session for team officials Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: While he's still months away from his return, this is still a positive development for the veteran right-hander, who should join the Dodgers at some point during the summer after recovering from last year's Tommy John surgery. McCarthy merits attention as he gets closer, given his fine track record in the big leagues.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford to have starts limited

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 16:09:25 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford isn't expected to play more than three or four times per week because of his injury history, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Fantasy Tip: Crawford's injury history is extensive, and he just returned from a stint on the DL this week. He's likely to platoon with Enrique Hernandez and maybe even Howie Kendrick, so Crawford should only be owned and used in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Dodgers | Howie Kendrick out of lineup

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:45:00 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26. 2B Chase Utley is starting at second base and is batting leadoff against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler.

Fantasy Tip: With Carl Crawford back from the DL, Kendrick could see even less playing time now as he splits time between left field and second base. That'll obviously hurt his value in mixed leagues, but he still has usefulness across most counting categories when he's in the lineup for the Blue.

Dodgers | Carl Crawford returns to lineup

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 15:39:12 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Carl Crawford (back) has returned from the disabled list and is starting in left field and batting seventh against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Tuesday, April 26.

Fantasy Tip: The aging Crawford returns from his latest DL stint, and he figures to have the strong end of a platoon in left field with Enrique Hernandez and possibly even Howie Kendrick at times. Crawford's injuries the last several seasons have facilitated a decline in his power and speed numbers. He's really only worth rostering these days in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.
