Los Angeles Dodgers SP Dan Haren has become a very reliable rotation arm for the team since Aug. 1 after he allowed seven runs (six earned) in 4 1/3 innings to the Chicago Cubs. In his last seven starts, Haren is 5-1 with a 1.70 ERA, 34 strikeouts and seven walks in 42 1/3 innings, and his batting average on balls in play has sunk to .227. He started the year going 4-0 with a 2.39 ERA in his first six starts, and then he had a 14-start stretch where he had a 6.04 ERA. Haren said he has made "some real small mechanical changes," but won't go into details. Manager Don Mattingly said Haren's mechanical tweaks have given him some "late life" on his offerings.

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Dan Haren tossed seven shutout innings to beat the San Diego Padres Wednesday, Sept. 10, and give the team four pitchers with 13 wins for the first time in 29 years. Haren allowed four hits while striking out five and walking one. "I swallowed my pride when it comes to velocity a long time ago," he said. "I just try to get outs. I've minimized my mistakes and located better. I've stayed the course."

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig, who has seen his average drop from .323 on Aug. 3 to .293, was 0-for-2 with a walk Sunday, Sept. 7, after being dropped to seventh in the batting order for the first time in his two-year career. "Who do you want the extra at-bat going to? Right now, that's not necessarily Yasiel," manager Don Mattingly said. "Yas is probably hitting where he should be hitting right now. I think it's a place where you're not putting extra pressure on him."
