Fantasy Tip: Both players will be used for depth and won't likely have much, if any, fantasy impact.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig is focused on playing 162 games this year and has dropped a few pounds in order to accomplish that. "I am working to strengthen the legs and prevent injuries like last year and focused on continuing adjusting to my new life in the majors, to get along with my teammates and try to help the team," Puig said.
Fantasy Tip: Puig has all the talent in the world still, but he needs to be more consistent and avoid injuries that bothered him in 2015. There remains hope that he can hit 20 home runs, but his price on draft day may be down even more with a possible suspension for a domestic violence incident.

Fantasy Tip: Ryu is worth monitoring for a late grab in mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick may see time in left field and third base as well as second base, so it sounds like he'll approach 500 at-bats to keep his midrange 2B fantasy value.

The Los Angeles Dodgers prefer to trade OF Carl Crawford over OF Andre Ethier, but they are getting more bites on Ethier, who had a bounce-back year in 2015 with a slash line of .294/.366/.486 in 142 games.
Fantasy Tip: The aging veteran (34 years old) will be in some sort of platoon role in the Los Angeles outfield again in 2016, and his decline power and speed makes him nothing more than a depth piece in NL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Justin Turner (knee) said he's no setbacks after microfracture surgery on his left knee. He's expecting to be 100% healthy for opening day and has been hitting for two weeks and started running last week, with no swelling or pain. Turner is confident the surgery will fix the arthritic limitations that caused him to take two days off each week the last two years.
Fantasy Tip: Turner should open as the Dodgers starting third baseman unless he suffers a setback in spring training. A tweaked batting stance was to thank for his career year in 2015, but don't pay too high of a fantasy price in 2016 for his numbers last season.

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig told media he enters spring training with a weight of 240 pounds, down 15 pounds from his 2015 playing weight. The organization wanted him to shed weight and focus on musculature.
Fantasy Tip: Puig slipped down draft boards because of his reduced playing abilities, mercurial personality and ballooning play weight. This is a step in the right direction. Don't go too crazy on draft day with Puig until he proves himself on the field, though. It's best to stay in the middle to later rounds.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Turner is able to play in the season opener, he is unlikely to be an everyday player at first as the team brings him along slowly. If he can remain healthy, he makes a serviceable third base option from a fantasy standpoint, after hitting .294 with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs in 2015. Howie Kendrick, Chase Utley, Kike Hernandez and Alex Guerrero could vie for time at the hot corner if Turner is not ready for Opening Day.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick is still expected to receive the bulk of his playing time at second base, but he could see action at the hot corner if Justin Turner (knee) isn't ready by the time the regular season starts. Kendrick is also likely to see time in left field during spring training and has prior experience playing the position. He should be viewed as a midrange second baseman who could fall down the draft board due to the timeshare situation in Los Angeles.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick will likely be stuck into a timeshare, which will hurt his value, but the team seems willing to get creative to find him his 500 at-bats. He's a midrange second baseman that could slip in drafts due to the logjam.

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley is expected to have an opportunity to appeal his two-game suspension during spring training. However, no date has been set for the appeal hearing, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: Given the uncertainty of Utley's role entering the 2016 season, and his underwhelming production in 2015, there isn't a lot to like about the veteran's fantasy stock. He returned an unhelpful .212/.286/.343 slash line through 423 plate appearances last season, after all. It would be wise to leave Utley to cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues this spring, and even in those deep formats, he is nothing more than a low-end option.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick tips the scales -- albeit slightly -- across all the counting stats and has a .293/.333/.423 slash line for his career. He is a solid middle-tier option at the keystone given his respectable floor and reliability. Still, entering his age-32 season, don't expect a step forward statically.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal's last two seasons have been very similar. If healthy, he's a 20-homer catching candidate, and he's excellent to have in leagues that count on-base percentage. If your leaguemates continue to pass him up, take advantage.
Fri, 29 Jan 2016 08:18:43 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Kendrick might be in a bit of a timeshare with Chase Utley if he returns, but he's still a midrange 2B option in fantasy.
