Updating previous reports, Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas will earn $5.6 million this year and $8.7 million in 2017 as part of his two-year, $14.3 million to avoid salary arbitration Friday, Feb. 12.
Fantasy Tip: Moustakas has matured at the plate and uses the entire field now with increasing power across the board. He's also improved against left-handers and could approach 30 homers in a perfect season. Moustakas could come at a discount, too, so pounce if that comes to fruition in your draft.

Fantasy Tip: Moose took a big step in 2015 with a .284-22-82 line. He'll be among the top third basemen to grab after the top few have been selected.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas is coming off a solid all-around season at the plate, and after the top options at the position are off the board, he should provide an effective alternative at the hot corner.

Fantasy Tip: Perez hit a career-high 21 homers last season while hitting .260 and driving in 70 RBIs. However, he has caught an astronomical amount of innings the last two years. He's still a high-end catcher at a thin position, but there could be some regression after his power has increased each of the last three years.

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas and OF Alex Gordon are the two most likely candidates to bat second in the team's batting order this season, according to manager Ned Yost. The player that does not win the competition for the No. 2 spot will wind up batting sixth, behind OF Lorenzo Cain, 1B Eric Hosmer and DH Kendrys Morales.
Fantasy Tip: Moustakas hit .280 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 408 at-bats as the No. 2 hitter in 2015, while Gordon hit .371 with one home run and seven RBIs in 35 at-bats in that spot. Don't be surprised if the left-handed-hitting Moustakas occupies the spot versus right-handers, while the right-handed-hitting Gordon does the same against southpaws. Both players make solid starting options in all fantasy formats.

Kansas City Royals SPs Kris Medlen, Chris R. Young, Danny Duffy and Dillon Gee are expected to compete for the final two spots in the starting rotation during spring training, according to manager Ned Yost and pitching coach Dave Eiland.
Fantasy Tip: Yost hinted that SPs Ian Kennedy, Yordano Ventura and Edinson Volquez would likely be the first three starters in the rotation, although he is hesitant to name an Opening Day starter. Owners in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues should keep tabs on this competition throughout spring training and the winners are worthy of consideration as late-round fliers in this year's fantasy drafts.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson hit .250 with two home runs and 25 RBIs in 200 at-bats last season and was successful on 26 of 29 stolen-base attempts. As a left-handed hitter, he would be likely to receive most of the playing time in this projected timeshare. Orlando hit .249 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs in 241 at-bats in 2015, including a .265 mark versus left-handed pitching. Both players should be viewed as reserve outfield options for AL-only and cavernous mixed formats.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas should be with the team for at least the 2016 season since he is scheduled to go through arbitration. Moustakas is coming off a season where he hit .284 with 22 home runs and 82 RBIs and should be a solid starting option in all mixed leagues.

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez said his agents are working with the Royals on a new deal but is not sure if an agreement will be reached before the start of spring training. Perez is currently playing under a five-year deal worth $7 million.
Fantasy Tip: Perez is coming off a very productive 2015 season where he hit .260 with 21 home runs. Perez has played in at least 138 games in each of the last three seasons and should be a starting option in every league.

Fantasy Tip: Although Kennedy went 9-15 with a 4.28 ERA in 30 starts for the San Diego Padres last year, his command improved as the season progressed and he struck out a career-high 9.30 batters per nine innings. He's worth considering as a middle-of-the-rotation starter in AL-only leagues and a late-round option for deep mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy likely will be in the middle of the starting rotation for the Royals this season. He posted a 9-15 record in 2015 with a 4.28 ERA. Kennedy could be a late-round option in deeper mixed leagues and a solid option in AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas had a career year in 2015, batting .284 with 22 home runs and 82 RBIs in 147 regular-season games while making his first All-Star team. He should be drafted in the early rounds of AL-only fantasy leagues and the middle rounds of mixed leagues.

Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain has agreed to a two-year deal with the Royals Friday, Jan. 15. Financial terms were not disclosed, but an earlier report stated that the deal is worth $17.5 million.
Fantasy Tip: Cain should be part of a strong lineup this season for the defending champions. Cain's ability to produce in all of the major offensive categories will make him an attractive option in all leagues in 2016.
