Royals | Eric Hosmer keeps up the good work

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:57:27 -0700

Kansas City Royals 1B Eric Hosmer went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs Wednesday, April 27, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, pushing his hitting streak to 17 games.

Fantasy Tip: Hosmer is hitting .358 (24-for-67) with three homers and seven RBIs during the impressive hitting streak. He is a must-start fantasy option in all formats right now, and keep rolling with him in DFS regardless of the price tag until he cools off.

Royals | Eric Hosmer extends to 17

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:44:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals 1B Eric Hosmer extended his hitting streak to a career-best 17 games with a two-run homer Wednesday, April 27.

Fantasy Tip: Hosmer has a .333-3-8 line on the season, so the damage was good for his otherwise unspectacular production during the streak. Keep him in your lineups.

Royals | Lorenzo Cain resting against Halos

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 15:09:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. OF Jarrod Dyson moves to center field, which allows OF Paulo Orlando to enter the starting lineup. Orlando is in right field and is batting eighth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano.

Fantasy Tip: Tropeano has held his own so far at the major league level this year, making Orlando and Dyson low-end outfield plays in daily formats. Dyson should be owned in all fantasy formats for his speed, but he can struggle to reach base, and a low lineup position will make it hard for him to return daily value.

Royals | Eric Hosmer matches career high

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 21:40:54 -0700

Kansas City Royals 1B Eric Hosmer extended his hitting streak to a career-high tying 16 games Tuesday, April 26, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: Hosmer hasn't hit for much power during the impressive streak, but it is impressive nonetheless. His 16-game run is the longest current streak, and longest in the majors in 2016 so far.

Royals | Eric Hosmer extends to 15

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 23:41:46 -0700

Kansas City Royals 1B Eric Hosmer extended his hitting streak to 15 games Monday, April 25.

Fantasy Tip: He has only had multiple hits in one of the last 10 games, which has actually lowered his batting average 10 points to .315. He's still a daily consideration in the upper-middle area.

Royals | Salvador Perez, Omar Infante to sit

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 11:02:46 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez and 2B Omar Infante are not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Mike Wright Sunday, April 24. 2B Christian Colon will start at second base and is batting seventh, while C Drew Butera will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Colon has collected only two hits in 10 at-bats this season and probably can be avoided in all leagues. Butera has received only three at-bats and is not a strong fantasy option.

Royals | Kris Medlen shelled in loss

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 19:41:54 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen allowed seven runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out two in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Medlen opened the year with two solid outings, but control issues finally caught up to him. He can be left on waivers.

Royals | Mike Moustakas showing some pop

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:08:33 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI and a run scored in a 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles Friday, April 22, and he has three doubles and three home runs over his last five games.

Fantasy Tip: Moustakas hit a career-high 22 homers last year, and he already has six after 15 games. With his power starting to come around, he is worth owning in all but the shallowest of leagues.

Royals | Edinson Volquez spins another gem

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 20:23:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez allowed five hits and struck out five over seven scoreless innings in a win over the Detroit Tigers Thursday, April 21, lowering his ERA to 1.46.

Fantasy Tip: Enjoy the fast start from Volquez, but don't expect him to be more than a No. 4 fantasy starter over the long haul.

Royals | Kelvin Herrera now working eighth

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 16:52:00 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Kelvin Herrera will replace RP Joakim Soria as the club's eighth-inning reliever, while Soria works on a mechanical issue, according to manager Ned Yost.

Fantasy Tip: Soria has been struggling for the team but at least it looks like the reason for that has been discovered. In the meantime, Herrera gets a considerable boost in leagues that score holds, as his stuff is pretty much as good as any late-inning reliever. Pitching for the defending champions, he'll have plenty of opportunities to help finish off ballgames and pick up holds for the Royals. Soria can be dropped.

Royals | Joakim Soria has mechanical issues

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 16:39:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals RP Joakim Soria and pitching coach Dave Eiland found a flaw in Soria's delivery in his front side recently, and he'll be moved out of the eighth-inning setup role while he works to fix it. Soria has allowed six earned runs and 10 hits in seven innings. His left side is drifting open too quickly, which throws off his release point. Manager Ned Yost said RP Kelvin Herrera will be deployed in the eighth inning in the meantime. Yost wants to use Herrera in the most high-leverage situations, so the roles won't be rigid. Herrera hasn't allowed a run in 7 1/3 innings over eight appearances to begin the year and has 10 strikeouts. Herrera has also been using a new slider after debuting the pitch last September and October. Despite Soria's struggles, he's inducing the weakest contact of the Royals relievers.

Fantasy Tip: That explains Soria's rough start in his reunion with the Royals. In shallower mixed leagues where Soria's owned, you may want to consider ditching him for better options. If you're compelled to hold him, bench him until things turn around. The bottom line, though, is that Herrera's stuff plays much better for fantasy owners, even if Soria will see the occasional save chance to spell Wade Davis.

Royals | Salvador Perez peppers box score

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:50:43 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez homered and had a career-high five RBI Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Salvy was off to a bit of a slow start, but he remains one of the better catching options worth DFS consideration most nights.

Royals | Jarrod Dyson hitting ninth in return

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 13:07:24 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson is hitting ninth and starting in right field in his season debut against Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson should be already owned in all fantasy leagues because of his elite speed. However, he can struggle to get on base, and his low lineup spot caps his fantasy upside, especially in daily formats.

Royals | Jarrod Dyson comes off the DL

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:06:15 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson (oblique) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, April 19, and OF Reymond Fuentes was optioned to the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson should immediately assume at least the strong side of a platoon in right field for the Royals, splitting time with defensive specialist Paulo Orlando. Dyson has elite speed and should be owned in all formats. Grab him immediately off the waiver wire if he's available.

Royals | No timetable for Jarrod Dyson

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 11:27:38 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson (oblique) has no timetable for a return from the disabled list at this time, according to manager Ned Yost. Dyson was hitting .250 in 20 at-bats with Class AAA Omaha after Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: The Royals are being cautious with Dyson because oblique injuries can often linger and are aggravated easily. Dyson has excellent speed and should remain stashed in the majority of fantasy leagues even if he platoons with Paulo Orlando in right field when he returns.
