Fantasy Tip: It's the same thumb he injured last season. Rios ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is a low-end outfield option on FantasyScore. Monitor him the next week to ensure it doesn't hinder him heading into the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) will face the Chicago White Sox at home on opening day April 6. He has electric stuff for a youngster and went 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in his first full season in 2014. Consider him a midrange starting option at FantasyScore on opening day.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is working his way back from wrist surgery, but he has said he plans to be ready for Opening Day. He has a chance to meet his goal if he doesn't suffer any setbacks, and while he may start a bit slow, his all-around production makes him a solid mid-round pick.

Fantasy Tip: Morales is a year removed from a serviceable season, where he returned 23 home runs, 80 RBI and a .277/.336/.449 slash line. His unimpressive 2014 numbers could be reflective of signing half way through the season, too. He stands to be the everyday designated hitter for the Royals and bat in the middle of the lineup. Morales could be a nice bounce-back candidate who can help in three categories, and the best part is he'll be available in the endgame of drafts in the majority of leagues.

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon could spend his last spring training with the team this year, as his contract is up after the 2015 season, and he's backing off a statement he said earlier that he would pick up his $14 million player option for the 2016 season. There have been no talks between Gordon and the team on a contract extension as opening day quickly approaches. If Gordon continues to play well and stay healthy, the Royals are unlikely to pay top dollar for his services to keep him around.
Fantasy Tip: Gordon is coming off wrist surgery, which clouds his fantasy baseball value. He has yet to play in spring games yet, either, so you'll need to watch his progress in these next few weeks. He's a steady producer across the board when healthy, though, recording double-digit home runs and stolen bases in each of the past four seasons. Look for him at a discount in the middle rounds.

Fantasy Tip: Mondesi was a long shot to make the club in the spring, and he will receive more seasoning in the minors. Long-term keeper fantasy owners will certainly want him on their rosters, however.

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante (elbow) is considering undergoing surgery on the bone spur in his right elbow, which has caused him pain and inflammation for more than two years. If he decides to go under the knife, he could be sidelined for six to 12 weeks.
Fantasy Tip: Infante would only opt to have surgery if cortisone shots prove to be ineffective. He received a shot last season and had another one last week. Infante's ability to remain healthy in previous years was one of his biggest assets, even if his stats were nothing to write home about. Right now, he projects as nothing more than roster depth in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon (wrist) will continue to take batting practice on the field for approximately the next week and then start playing in minor league games toward the end of next week, said Royals manager Ned Yost Wednesday, March 11. Yost can better control Gordon's number of at-bats in the minors, he noted.
Fantasy Tip: Gordon's ability to take at-bats now should allow him to shake off the offseason rust before games count. He projects to hit in the second spot in the order -- a nice spot for run production -- and he should finish the year with around 20 homers and roughly a dozen steals.

Fantasy Tip: Young went 12-9 with a 3.65 ERA for Seattle last season, with opposing hitters batting just .234 against him. While he appears to be a good fit for Kansas City's starting rotation, he will probably be available on mixed league draft boards in the later rounds due to his injury history and walk-to-strikeout ratio. In order to clear space on the 40-man roster for Young, SP Kris Medlen (elbow) was placed on the 60-day disabled list.

Kansas City Royals 2B Omar Infante (elbow) is heading for an MRI exam with continued soreness in his right elbow. He's been dealing with elbow issues since last year. He was supposed to start at designated hitter for the spring game Friday, March 6, but he instead will have tests on his arm. "It's not ligament. That leads you to believe that it's a spur in the back of the elbow that's inflamed," manager Ned Yost said. "Is an injection warranted to calm it down? Did a spur break off? We just don't know. We have to send him out for an MRI and see exactly what is causing the pain." Infante doesn't have pain when he hits, and he's been able to take grounders and full batting practice without issues.
Fantasy Tip: The 33-year-old Infante's greatest contribution to fantasy players is his consistent playing time, but even that might be in question if there is something seriously wrong with his elbow. Nothing about his profile stands out for fantasy categories. Consider him middle infield insurance in AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Hochevar's thinking is to go back to what worked before the injury, and his curve made Hochevar an important piece of the bullpen. In leagues with more of an emphasis on relievers, Hochevar could be more valuable, but it will take time for him to return.

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon (wrist) said he had no pain Tuesday, Feb. 24, in his surgically repaired right wrist after playing long toss Monday, Feb. 23. He also took 15 dry swings Tuesday with a fungo, and manager Ned Yost said Gordon had no issues. Gordon said his rehab is on schedule, and he's confident he'll be ready for opening day.
Fantasy Tip: Gordon will likely come at an injury discount during your draft. Keep tabs on his progress in camp. If he doesn't have any setbacks, he could easily become an attractive value pick for your outfield.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is a well-rounded fantasy contributor. Over the past four seasons, he has averaged 93 runs, 19 home runs, 78 RBIs and 12 stolen bases with a .283/.356/.453 slash line. Gordon projects to be ready to for the beginning of the season, and he is a viable option in the early middle rounds of drafts. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery leading into the season, though.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is likely to be drafted in the middle rounds of most fantasy baseball drafts. He has played in at least 150 games in each of the last four seasons and can be counted on for 150 hits, 15-20 homers, 80-90 RBIs and double-digit steals.

Fantasy Tip: Holland has an $8.25 million salary for 2015 and is under team control for 2016, so the Royals aren't in a hurry to discuss extension talks. Still, Holland had a 1-3 record and 46 saves with a team that was borderline to go to the playoffs until late in the regular season. Holland is a top closer option for the upcoming year.
