Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena (rest) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 5. SS Marwin Gonzalez is starting at third base in his place and batting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley.
Fantasy Tip: Valbuena will get a night of rest with a left-hander on the hill, plus the fact he's 1-for-20 with 11 strikeouts in his last seven games. Gonzalez isn't faring much better and owners in daily games can look elsewhere for a low-price value play.

Fantasy Tip: With a lefty on the mound, Castro gets the night off, which is unfortunate for him, as his bat is finally coming to life, having at least one hit in six straight contests to get his average up above the Mendoza Line. Kratz, on the other hand, never has a live bat, hence why he's hitting 1-for-19 (.053) thus far this season. He can be left on every waiver wire imaginable.

Houston Astros OF Colby Rasmus (rest) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 5. OF Jake Marisnick is starting in his place in left field and batting ninth opposite Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley.
Fantasy Tip: It'll be a standard night off for Houston's regular cleanup man. Owners shouldn't really consider his replacement, though, as Marisnick has just one hit thus far in 10 at-bats to begin the campaign. Evan Gattis is batting cleanup with Rasmus out of the lineup and could be a tempting option for daily formats.

Fantasy Tip: White got out to a hot start, but has seen reduced playing time lately thanks to a 2-for-36 slump that he carries into Thursday's contest. With that in mind, it's hard to recommend him for owners in daily games. White should be implemented into lineups again when he's able bust out of his extensive slump.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis normally bats fifth when he's in the lineup, but with Colby Rasmus getting the night off, he gets bumped up into cleanup duty. While he's been a big disappointment thus far in 2016, Gattis has been fine when he stands in the box opposite a left-handed pitcher. In fact, he has more hits against lefties than he does righties, despite having registered nearly half as many at-bats versus southpaws. As a result, he could be a sneaky option for this evening.

Fantasy Tip: Altuve has been one of the best players in fantasy with a .306-8-17 line with 25 runs and 10 steals. He's an easy consideration in DFS every day.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick had only 10 at-bats last month before he was sent down. He'll once again serve as a late-inning defensive replacement or pinch-runner off the bench, and he'll occasionally see a spot start when one of the other outfielders needs a blow. That severely limits his fantasy value to the deepest of AL-only affairs.

Fantasy Tip: Altuve and Correa are amazing fantasy options and the duo make up one of the best middle infielder combinations in the majors.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus belted seven homers with 19 RBIs, so don't give up on him in fantasy leagues just because of his recent hitless skid. He is a solid OF3 or utility fantasy option in most formats and DFS play.

Houston Astros C Max Stassi (wrist) started a minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday, May 3, with Class AAA Fresno, and he is expected to catch fellow rehabbing SP Lance McCullers (shoulder) in a game with the Grizzlies Saturday, May 7.
Fantasy Tip: Stassi is making progress, and he is likely to slot behind the red hot Jason Castro once Stassi is healthy enough to return. Veteran Erik Kratz has done absolutely nothing at the dish so far.
Wed, 04 May 2016 23:55:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: McCullers is nearing a return, and is worth rostering in AL-only fantasy play if he is available off the waiver wire.

Houston Astros C Jason Castro went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two walks, three runs scored and four RBIs Wednesday, May 4, against the Minnesota Twins. He tied a career high with the four RBIs. Over the past seven games he is hitting .444 with eight hits, two homers and five RBIs to raise his average from .114 to .210. "I made a change about a week ago or so and just tried to simplify things and not try to overdo it," Castro said. "So it's been nice to kind of see the results pretty much right away when I made the adjustment."
Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners likely gave up on Castro after his super slow start and haven't reaped the rewards of his adjustment. He has re-emerged as a No. 2 receiver in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play.

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis (rest) and 1B Tyler White (rest) are not starting Wednesday, May 4, against Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes. SS Marwin Gonzalez and OF Preston Tucker are in their place, with Gonzalez playing first base and batting seventh, while Tucker is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth.
Fantasy Tip: White will be on the bench for the second time in three nights, though it's hard to argue that decision considering he's a putrid 2-for-35 over his last 10 ballgames. Gattis is also slumping, having not recorded a hit in his last 11 at-bats. Daily owners can do better than Gonzalez and Tucker from Wednesday's full 15-game slate.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez has been out to a slow start, hitting just .213/.241/.275 with zero home runs and only two RBI in his first 80 at-bats. Even with him back in the lineup, owners may want to give him a couple of games to get in a rhythm. His return is also bad news for Preston Tucker.
Tue, 03 May 2016 15:10:00 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gomez has to be one of the biggest early-season disappointments for fantasy owners with a slash line of .213/.241/.275 and no home runs, two RBI and two stolen bases in 22 games. Perhaps nagging injuries have been the culprit. Whatever the case, you can probably buy him for pennies on the dollar. Keep him out of traditional lineups until he proves his health and shows signs of life.
