Fantasy Tip: Lowrie ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) was hitless in three at-bats in his first game back Thursday, July 30, and he has just one hit in 10 career at-bats versus Hellickson. Avoid using him today in FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Conger ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is batting .327 with four home runs and nine RBIs in just 55 at-bats versus right-handed pitching this season, making him a solid choice for FantasyScore owners looking for an inexpensive catching option tonight.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is an inexpensive source of power but his .184 average scares many fantasy owners away and makes him in a risky play in FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) will need some time to adjust to his new lineup, so take this game with a grain of salt. He figures to see plenty of playing time moving forward, so one game isn't going to make a difference. Wait a bit and let him get adjusted to American League pitching.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) could find himself out of the lineup more often than not now that Jed Lowrie is back in the infield picture for Houston. Carter has impressive power, but his .184 average (56-for-305) kills his fantasy owners, and if he's not seeing as much playing time, he's even less attractive to fantasy owners. Gonzalez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is a very mediocre, at best, shortstop play on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) will hit between Houston's top two hitters, which is an extremely cushy fantasy situation. Although, he had comfy surroundings in Milwaukee, too. Gomez hasn't been at his finest this season, but he owns high-end upside and is worth considering in FantasyScore contests Friday.

Fantasy Tip: The New York Yankees were pushing hard for Kimbrel, too, and it looks like they won't land him, either. For now, it appears that Luke Gregerson will retain the closer's job in Houston and keep his fantasy value as a ninth-inning stopper. However, the trade deadline hasn't passed yet, so a lot can still go down.
Fri, 31 Jul 2015 11:27:10 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Chapman will remain an elite fantasy closer regardless of where he pitches. If Houston adds Chapman as their closer, Luke Gregerson will be banished to a setup role and will lose all of his fantasy value. If you own him, be ready to pursue other saves avenues.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) struggled again in his second taste of the big leagues, going 9-for-44 (.205) with one home run and six RBI. He still has power upside at the major league level, but owners will need to be patient. He's only worth holding in dynasty leagues. Even with Singleton gone, Chris Carter could lose playing time now that Jed Lowrie is back on the active roster.

Houston Astros SP Scott Kazmir turned in another great performance in his win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Thursday, July 30, and he lowered his July ERA to an MLB-best 0.26. He tossed seven shutout innings in his debut with the Astros last week and became the first pitcher in Astros history to throw seven or more shutout innings in his first two games since 1965.
Fantasy Tip: Even though Kazmir ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) leaves an excellent pitching environment in Oakland for Houston, it hasn't phased him yet, and his fantasy value is on the rise pitching for a contending team. He'll remain a strong FantasyScore pitching option for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously, Fiers ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) would lose practically all of his fantasy value if he pitches out of Houston's bullpen. This could be a fluid situation, though, because the Astros could also look to limit the innings of Lance McCullers and Vincent Velasquez down the stretch.

Fantasy Tip: The move to Houston on the surface looks bad for Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) going to a less hitter-friendly ballpark. However, there's a trade off: He joins a much more explosive offense, so the fantasy impact will likely be minimal. It remains to be seen what Houston's outfield alignment will be with Gomez in town, but Jake Marisnick and Preston Tucker could see their playing time drastically reduced, especially when George Springer returns from the DL.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez's ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) fantasy value will take a slight hit, as he goes from the park with the second highest runs per game to the park with the 19th highest average, but he does join a more potent offense. OFs Jake Marisnick ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and Preston Tucker ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) will lose playing time and fantasy value. Fiers ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) will receive a slight boost, as he moves to a more pitcher-friendly ballpark. Lance McCullers ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) may be bumped from the starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) picks up his DH duties, although he's not a recommended play this evening. The lumbering slugger has struggled mightily as of late, having only five hits in the month of July in 44 at-bats -- good for a putrid .114 average. Shoemaker is allowing 1.6 homers per nine innings this year, but he's been much better of late. Carter is still more of a dice roll in daily formats on the chance he connects and goes deep.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 16:03:10 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Lowrie ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hasn't played since late April, so this is a notable boost for the Astros lineup. It will be interesting to see how his playing time is handled, as his return could also decrease the playing time for Luis Valbuena and Chris Carter. Lowrie has always been injury-prone, but when he's healthy and in rhythm, he's a capable hitter. In the beginning, though, it's probably best to just monitor his progress and see if he's returning to form.
