Marlins | Three Miami starters sitting out

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 12:45:06 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto, OF Marcell Ozuna and 2B Derek Dietrich are not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerad Eickhoff Tuesday, July 26. OF Ichiro Suzuki will start in center field and is batting first. C Jeff Mathis will start at catcher and is batting seventh, while 2B Miguel Rojas will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Suzuki has only two hits in his last eight games but is still hitting .335 this season, which makes him a decent option in daily fantasy leagues. Rojas and Mathis should not be starting options outside NL-only leagues.

Marlins | Dee Gordon hitting in rehab

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 23:10:55 -0700

Miami Marlins 2B Dee Gordon is 8-for-24 (.364) in his last five games at Class AAA New Orleans. He's eligible to return Thursday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon should return to your lineups as soon as he's reinstated. In a season where 36 steals leads the majors, Gordon could have a huge impact in the fantasy stretch run.

Marlins | Justin Bour nearing rehab stint

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 21:20:06 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Justin Bour (ankle) is hopeful of beginning a minor-league rehab stint Thursday, July 28. "He's still having some trouble with some running things and some moving around issues, but we're trying to get him game-like at-bats before he is physically able to do rehab games," manager Don Mattingly said Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Bour should be avoided in all fantasy leagues and DFS play until he can officially play and prove his health in a game or two without any setbacks before trusting him again.

Marlins | Jarred Cosart solid in no-decision

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 20:08:04 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart allowed three hits and a walk in five scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a no-decision Monday, July 25, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He threw 53 of his 92 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Cosart looks like he wants to stick around this time around. He was horrible in his first three starts in April, but he needs to turn in a few more starts like this before he can be trusted in fantasy circles again.

Marlins | Miami scouts out Jeremy Hellickson

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 20:07:34 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson is a trade target of the Miami Marlins, and the Phillies had scouts at the Gulf Coast league affiliate of the Marlins in preparation of a possible trade.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson improved his stock more against Miami Monday with six scoreless innings with one hit and one walk in a no-decision. He lowered his ERA to 3.65 and might be worth a look in most fantasy leagues if he is moved to a contender.

Marlins | Miami interested in Ivan Nova

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 19:09:01 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova is a player the Miami Marlins are interested in acquiring. It's unclear what the Yankees are looking to receive in a deal for Nova, though a major league source said Monday, July 25, that the early asking price is higher than expected.

Fantasy Tip: Nova has posted a 2-0 record with a 2.66 ERA over his past four starts to bump up his stock and the team's asking price. Whether he moves to a contender or stays with the Yankees, he has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option and DFS play in most formats.

Marlins | Miami interested in Hector Santiago

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 15:11:10 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago is of trade interest to the Miami Marlins, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Santiago is a low-end starter who can provide nice fantasy results if you're selective with his starts. The 28-year-old lefty owns a career 3.78 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 8.2 K/9 through his 103 career starts. You can work with those numbers, especially if he relocates to the National League. This is a situation to monitor.

Marlins | Jarred Cosart recalled for start

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 14:28:42 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart was recalled from Class AAA New Orleans. He will start Monday, July 25, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: At one point not too long ago, Cosart looked like a solid mid-rotation starter, including after he was traded from Houston to the Marlins a couple of seasons ago. Last year, though, he went 2-5 with a 4.52 ERA in 13 starts and one relief appearance, and he had a disastrous 7.98 ERA in three starts for the club this season before getting sent down. He's someone worth monitoring if he can return to old form.

Marlins | Don Kelly draws into the lineup

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 12:51:35 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Don Kelly is starting at first base and is batting eighth against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson Monday, July 25. 1B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson had been receiving the majority of starts at first base with Justin Bour (ankle) out. Johnson's a low-end option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Similarly, Kelly is nothing more than a desperation flier in daily contests Monday.

Marlins | Miami considering Wade Miley

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 09:19:49 -0700

The Miami Marlins have considered trading for Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley, and they've also considered him in the past.

Fantasy Tip: Miley hasn't helped fantasy owners much this year with his 5.23 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 18 starts (105 innings), and his very mediocre 6.3 K/9 is even more underwhelming. You should only be using him in the right matchups in AL-only leagues at this point, and he'd be a cheap consolation prize to NL-only managers if he changes leagues.

Marlins | Wei-Yin Chen placed on DL

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 13:26:31 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, July 24, because of a left elbow sprain. SP Jarred Cosart was recalled from Class AAA New Orleans and is scheduled to start against the Philadelphia Phillies Monday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor Chen's recovery to see if he will be able to return in only a few weeks. Owners could keep him on their roster if they have to room, but he could be dropped if he misses significant time. Cosart will have a favorable matchup against the Phillies but is not a strong fantasy option.

Marlins | Miami interested in two Minnesota hurlers

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:42:05 -0700

The Miami Marlins have expressed interest in Minnesota Twins SPs Ricky Nolasco and Tommy Milone.

Fantasy Tip: Nolasco is 1-2 with a 5.85 ERA through four starts this month and has battled command problems, issuing nine walks while striking out just eight batters over 20 innings. Milone has pitched better recently after enduring struggles of his own earlier this year, going 3-0 with a 2.33 ERA through three starts in July. Both players should see a slight uptick in fantasy value if they are dealt to the National League.

Marlins | J.T. Realmuto dropped in the lineup

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:32:16 -0700

Miami Marlins C J.T. Realmuto is batting sixth against New York Mets SP Steven Matz Sunday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: Realmuto usually leads off for Miami, which helps makes him a solid starting option behind the plate in all fantasy formats. For the campaign, he sits with an impressive .312 batting average, 37 runs and 10 stolen bases. Dropping in the order should just improve his RBI chances while slightly limiting his opportunities to score runs.

Marlins | Miami interested in Eduardo Rodriguez

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:28:38 -0700

The Miami Marlins have expressed interest in trading for Boston Red Sox SP Eduardo Rodriguez. However, it is believed that he is unavailable.

Fantasy Tip: The 23-year-old left-hander is 2-4 with a 6.70 ERA through eight starts but missed most of the first two months of the season because of a knee injury. Despite his struggles, he should be rostered in AL-only and deep mixed fantasy leagues because he possesses a great deal of upside.

Marlins | Miguel Rojas leading off vs. Mets

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 08:24:21 -0700

Miami Marlins SS Miguel Rojas is starting at first base and leading off against New York Mets SP Steven Matz Sunday, July 24. 1B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Miami has been plugging in a number of bodies at first base with Justin Bour (ankle) on the disabled list, but Johnson has been the most frequent. Over the past three seasons, Johnson owns a .256/.289/.351 slash line, which doesn't move the fantasy needle outside of cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Similarly, Rojas owns a career .596 OPS and doesn't warrant attention in any fantasy format, including daily contests Sunday.
