Fantasy Tip: Dating back to the beginning of 2013, Avila has hit just .221 over 780 at-bats. Add that he last played almost two months ago, and there is no reason to start him in FantasyScore contests Friday. He is a low-end catcher in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher seasonal formats, too.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the potential plus-matchup against Hutchison (8.92 ERA and a 5.66 FIP on the road), Gose ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been reeling at the plate. Over his past 25 games, Gose has a single multi-hit showing, a single extra-base hit, zero RBI and a .153/.200/.165 slash line.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison has a 8.92 ERA and a 5.66 FIP on the road this season, so Cespedes ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has a plus-matchup in that regard. Cespedes is slumping, though. Over his past eight games, he is 5-for-35 with just three runs, four RBI and a .371 OPS. At his cap hit, FantasyScore players should view Cespedes as a high-risk, high-reward start in contests.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison has a 8.92 ERA and a 5.66 FIP on the road this season, so Kinsler ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has a plus-matchup in that regard. Still, Kinsler is far from a lineup lock for FantasyScore players given his unimpressive current form (.208/.278/.292 slash line over the past 17 games).

Fantasy Tip: Avila ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is serving as the DH for Toledo today, and he could return to the Tigers this weekend if he doesn't have any setbacks. Avila is expected to share time behind the plate with James McCann ($3,000, 6.0% of cap). Avila is worth picking up in two-catcher or AL leagues if you're in need of a backstop. Hitting isn't his forte, though, and he doesn't have much power, so he'll be a mediocre catching option most days on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Simon ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has been hit hard in three straight starts, allowing 18 earned runs over his last 14 2/3 innings. Avoid him at FantasyScore until he is able to turn things around.

Fantasy Tip: Gose ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is sporting a .365 OPS over his past 90 plate appearances, and he is in danger of losing playing time to Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) going forward. Davis has a .348/.388/.587 slash line over his past 49 plate appearances with plenty of speed, and he is a viable FantasyScore option Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has a .348/.388/.587 slash line over his past 49 plate appearances and stands as an upside play for FantasyScore players when in the lineup, especially leading off. Just note, he faces a tall test againt Burnett Wednesday. In seasonal formats, there is a chance Davis begins to earn the majority of starts in center field with Anthony Gose ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) sporting a .365 OPS over his past 90 plate appearances. Davis' speed makes him a viable add in the majority of leagues, albeit currently, just a speculative one.

Detroit Tigers C Alex Avila (knee) played in his fourth minor-league rehab game with Class AAA Toledo Tuesday, June 30. He was the designated hitter Tuesday, and is expected to catch Wednesday, July 1.
Fantasy Tip: Avila has been sidelined since May 8 due to a knee issue. FantasyScore players will want to see him officially return and prove his health in a full game or two before trusting him again.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed three runs - two earned - and six hits with five walks over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday, June 30, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also struck out three batters.
Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) still has the potential to be a solid FantasyScore option most nights, but he needs to re-gain his control.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 22:25:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($5,200; or 10.4% of cap) wrapped up the month of June with 11 home runs. He has been a huge FantasyScore option for an extended period, and he still comes with a nice price.

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias might be moved up in the batting order, although manager Brad Ausmus has yet to make a move. Iglesias is fifth in the American League with a .330 average, but his average is helped out by 18 infield hits, which is fifth-most in the majors. "I have considered it, multiple times. There's always that question: Is a guy hitting what he's hitting because of where he's hitting? Ausmus said. "And would it change if you moved him?"
Fantasy Tip: Iglesias has been hitting fine for fantasy owners, and an infield hit is just as good as a sharp single to the outfield. FantasyScore players have loved Iglesias for his multiple hits and runs scored, and he might have more RBI chances if the table setters on the Tigers weren't slumping so badly.

Detroit Tigers C Alex Avila (knee) said his knee is feeling "fine," and he could return to the team by the end of the week. He caught in a minor league rehab game with Class AAA Toledo on back-to-back nights Sunday, June 28, and Monday, June 29. "I feel fine, I feel good," Avila said Monday night, after Toledo's 4-1 victory. "My knee feels good. My legs feel good. I have no complaints after today." He plans to be the designated hitter Tuesday, June 30, and catching again for Toledo Wednesday, July 1.
Fantasy Tip: Avila ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) will likely be eased back into the catching duties when he returns, meaning James McCann ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will still have a role. Avila isn't known for his bat, and he was hitting just .200 (12-for-60) before getting hurt. He'll be a weak FantasyScore option most nights, and he's only worth owning in two-catcher or AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: After battling injuries to start the year, Martinez ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is starting to round into form. As long as he is healthy, he is a solid mid-priced option at FantasyScore against most matchups.

Detroit Tigers C James McCann went 2-for-4 with a game-winning, solo home run and two runs scored in a 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox Sunday, June 28, and he joined retired OF Tim Salmon as the only players with at least two game-winning home runs in the first 61 games of their career.
Fantasy Tip: Despite the walk-off homer, McCann ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) hasn't been doing much this month. His big games are too sporadic to warrant consideration at FantasyScore.
