Detroit Tigers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Gose ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is having a fine season (.338/.374/.475) with eight stolen bases, but a move to the bottom of the order against a left-handed pitcher really makes him less appetizing at FantasyScore tonight. Gose is only hitting .231 (3-for-13) against lefties this season. It'd be wise to avoid him.

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (knee) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 27. SS Dixon Machado is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth in the batting order against Oakland Athletics SP Scott Kazmir.
Fantasy Tip: Machado ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a light-hitting infielder that shouldn't be on your radar at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Simon was placed on the bereavement list Wednesday. Simon is a relief pitcher, so he won't be available at FantasyScore. You wouldn't want to start him in your lineups anyway. With Detroit playing a bullpen game today, you may want to consider stacking Oakland hitters in your daily lineups.

Fantasy Tip: That doesn't really sound like Avila ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is close to making a return or going on a rehab assignment, for that matter. James McCann ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) continues to do most of the catching the meantime, and he's not a bad sleeper pick at the catcher position, based on matchups. McCann is hitting .281 (27-for-96) with two home runs and 10 RBI.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (triceps) will start his rehab assignment for Class AAA Toledo Sunday, May 31, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Verlander will throw 80 to 85 pitches in the outing.
Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) felt great during his simulated game yesterday, and he's getting closer to making his 2015 debut with the Tigers. However, he'll likely need several rehab games before the team is comfortable adding him back to the rotation. If Verlander is still available in your league, you should consider stashing him. He could be a serviceable matchup play, in both traditional leagues and at FantasyScore, when he's back.
Wed, 27 May 2015 10:33:46 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) should be a daily consideration for your FantasyScore lineups. It makes sense to pay up for him today against Kazmir and the A's.

Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon was scratched from his outing against the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, May 27, to be with his ailing father. He was placed on the bereavement list, and the Tigers will recall SP Kyle Ryan from Class AAA Toledo to make the spot start. However, Ryan may not make it to the game on time, so Detroit may be forced to go with a reliever to start the game. Ryan was 0-5 with a 4.67 ERA for the Mud Hens.
Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Simon ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will be able to make his next start. Stay tuned. At FantasyScore, it may be a sneaky move now to stack some Oakland hitters in your daily lineups against whoever starts for the Tigers tonight.
Wed, 27 May 2015 10:25:28 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is a fine FantasyScore option while hitting leadoff against the A's today. He's also hitting .300 (9-for-30) with four RBI and three stolen bases since May 14.
Tue, 26 May 2015 16:22:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) went 2-for-4 Saturday, May 24, and he scored a run for the second time in three games. With Romine's price at the minimum, and the top of the batting order batting behind him, Romine can be considered in GPP contests.
Tue, 26 May 2015 16:10:36 -0700
Detroit Tigers 2B Ian Kinsler will rest Tuesday, May 26, against the Oakland Athletics. 2B Hernan Perez will start at second in his place and bat ninth in the order. OF Rajai Davis will serve as the designated hitter and move into the two-spot in the order.
Fantasy Tip: Perez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has just two hits in 27 plate appearances this year, and he shouldn't garner any consideration on FantasyScore. Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has 11 stolen bases on the season, and he can be considered for play in GPP tournaments despite his low .262 average against right-handed pitchers.
Tue, 26 May 2015 10:14:38 -0700
Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera is batting .337 with 17 home runs and 54 RBI in 55 career games against the Oakland Athletics, who he faces Tuesday, May 26. He leads all active players with a .438 on-base percentage and a .663 slugging percentage against Oakland.
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) should consistently be a daily FantasyScore option for your lineups.
Tue, 26 May 2015 10:09:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is still only hitting .247 (22-for-89) in the month of May with two home runs and 12 RBI. Facing a right-handed pitcher tonight, Castellanos is a mediocre FantasyScore option. He's hitting .227 (32-for-141 against righties in 2015.
Mon, 25 May 2015 11:15:03 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Iglesias ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is considered day-to-day at this point, so he could return soon. Machado will receive his first start of the season but should not be an option for fantasy owners at this point.
Mon, 25 May 2015 10:32:44 -0700
Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (ankle) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 25. INF Hernan Perez will start at first base. Manager Brad Ausmus said Cabrera has been dealing with a minor ankle injury but should be in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 26.
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) could miss a day or two, but it does not appear like he is dealing with a serious injury. Perez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has recorded only two hits in 24 at-bats this season and should be avoided on FantasyScore.
Sun, 24 May 2015 15:26:37 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has not been himself this season, as most of his owners have realized. The club says there is no injury, but clearly something isn't right. Until he figures out what is up, you may want to leave Sanchez on your bench.
