Updating previous reports, Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) will not play against the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, July 4. Manager Brad Ausmus said he could land on the 15-day disabled list but the team is awaiting a doctor's opinion.
Fantasy Tip: The team will know more about Cabrera's ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) status once the results of the MRI exam are revealed. If he is placed on the disabled list, he would be ineligible to return to action until after the All-Star break. DH/1B Victor Martinez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) appears to be in line to see most of the action at first base while Cabrera is sidelined, although Andrew Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Bryan Holaday ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) have also seen playing time there this season.

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (7-7) carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 3, but OF Ezequiel Carrera's one-out single ended the bid. He ended up allowing four runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings, with three walks and five strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) didn't even end up with a quality start, thanks to a poor performance by the Detroit bullpen, although he still managed to be credited for the victory. He will make his next start against the Seattle Mariners next week.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (calf) suffered a strained left calf while running the bases against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 3. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam.
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) went 2-for-2 Friday before injuring himself on the basepaths during an apparent hit-and-run in the fourth inning. INF Andrew Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) replaced Cabrera at first base, although DH/1B Victor Martinez ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is more likely to start at the position if he is forced to miss multiple games. Keep checking back for further updates on Cabrera's status.

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (leg) left the game against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 3, after suffering a leg injury while running the bases. Cabrera came up limping during an apparent hit-and-run attempt in the bottom of the fourth inning. He was replaced in the game by INF Andrew Romine.
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) was batting .345 with 15 home runs and 53 RBIs through 76 games entering play Friday, July 3. If he is sidelined for an extended period of time, DH/1B Victor Martinez would probably see regular playing time in the field. Check back for updates on Cabrera's status.

Fantasy Tip: Dating back to the beginning of 2013, Avila has hit just .221 over 780 at-bats. Add that he last played almost two months ago, and there is no reason to start him in FantasyScore contests Friday. He is a low-end catcher in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher seasonal formats, too.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the potential plus-matchup against Hutchison (8.92 ERA and a 5.66 FIP on the road), Gose ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been reeling at the plate. Over his past 25 games, Gose has a single multi-hit showing, a single extra-base hit, zero RBI and a .153/.200/.165 slash line.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison has a 8.92 ERA and a 5.66 FIP on the road this season, so Cespedes ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has a plus-matchup in that regard. Cespedes is slumping, though. Over his past eight games, he is 5-for-35 with just three runs, four RBI and a .371 OPS. At his cap hit, FantasyScore players should view Cespedes as a high-risk, high-reward start in contests.

Fantasy Tip: Hutchison has a 8.92 ERA and a 5.66 FIP on the road this season, so Kinsler ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has a plus-matchup in that regard. Still, Kinsler is far from a lineup lock for FantasyScore players given his unimpressive current form (.208/.278/.292 slash line over the past 17 games).

Fantasy Tip: Avila ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is serving as the DH for Toledo today, and he could return to the Tigers this weekend if he doesn't have any setbacks. Avila is expected to share time behind the plate with James McCann ($3,000, 6.0% of cap). Avila is worth picking up in two-catcher or AL leagues if you're in need of a backstop. Hitting isn't his forte, though, and he doesn't have much power, so he'll be a mediocre catching option most days on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Simon ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has been hit hard in three straight starts, allowing 18 earned runs over his last 14 2/3 innings. Avoid him at FantasyScore until he is able to turn things around.
Wed, 01 Jul 2015 14:32:52 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gose ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is sporting a .365 OPS over his past 90 plate appearances, and he is in danger of losing playing time to Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) going forward. Davis has a .348/.388/.587 slash line over his past 49 plate appearances with plenty of speed, and he is a viable FantasyScore option Wednesday.
Wed, 01 Jul 2015 13:43:40 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has a .348/.388/.587 slash line over his past 49 plate appearances and stands as an upside play for FantasyScore players when in the lineup, especially leading off. Just note, he faces a tall test againt Burnett Wednesday. In seasonal formats, there is a chance Davis begins to earn the majority of starts in center field with Anthony Gose ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) sporting a .365 OPS over his past 90 plate appearances. Davis' speed makes him a viable add in the majority of leagues, albeit currently, just a speculative one.

Detroit Tigers C Alex Avila (knee) played in his fourth minor-league rehab game with Class AAA Toledo Tuesday, June 30. He was the designated hitter Tuesday, and is expected to catch Wednesday, July 1.
Fantasy Tip: Avila has been sidelined since May 8 due to a knee issue. FantasyScore players will want to see him officially return and prove his health in a full game or two before trusting him again.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 22:27:02 -0700
Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed three runs - two earned - and six hits with five walks over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday, June 30, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also struck out three batters.
Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) still has the potential to be a solid FantasyScore option most nights, but he needs to re-gain his control.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 22:25:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Martinez ($5,200; or 10.4% of cap) wrapped up the month of June with 11 home runs. He has been a huge FantasyScore option for an extended period, and he still comes with a nice price.
