Detroit Tigers news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Lobstein ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) was making his first start since May after being sidelined with a shoulder injury. He is expected to make his next start against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, Sept. 9, but he should be avoided in FantasyScore until he strings together a few solid starts.

Updating previous reports, Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (finger) is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks because of a fractured right middle finger. He sustained the injury while attempting to bunt in a game against the Kansas City Royals Thursday, Sept. 3. Initial X-rays came back negative but a CT scan revealed the fracture.
Fantasy Tip: SS Dixon Machado was recalled from Class AAA Toledo but INF Andrew Romine ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will probably get most of the playing time while Iglesias is sidelined. Neither player should be targeted outside of AL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't look good for Iglesias ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), and he may need to sit out the remainder of the year if he doesn't receive favorable results on his tests. Dixon Machado is starting at shortstop tonight for Iglesias, and he could be the main beneficiary of playing time if Iglesias' season is over. You can ignore Machado in the majority of fantasy formats.

Fantasy Tip: You shouldn't be tempted to use Holaday ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) under any circumstances on FantasyScore this evening. There are other cheap catchers better equipped to return value as salary cap relievers tonight if you choose to go that route.

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) said he and the organization agree his health is the No. 1 priority right now. He is taking his rehab slowly and hasn't thrown off a mound yet. Manager Brad Ausmus said Sanchez is "a little ways away."
Fantasy Tip: There isn't a lot of wiggle room in the timeline, so even the slightest setback could prevent Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) from returning this season. He should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation stash in all fantasy formats, and seasonal owners shouldn't fret cutting him for a player who can contribute right now.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (finger) was hit in the right middle finger by a pitch while attempting to bunt Thursday, Sept. 3. X-rays came back negative and he was diagnosed with a right middle finger contusion, and he'll be re-evaluated Friday, Sept. 4. Iglesias is in a considerable amount of pain, though, and manager Brad Ausmus expects Iglesias to miss "more than a few days."
Fantasy Tip: With Iglesias out for at least a few days, you'll obviously want to avoid him on FantasyScore. Dixon Machado or Andrew Romine ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will fill in at the 6 in the meantime, but neither are very valuable in the short term in any fantasy formats.

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (hand) will not play Friday, Sept. 4, after suffering a hand injury during the game against the Kansas City Royals on Sept. 3. He is expected to miss at least a few days.
Fantasy Tip: Immediately take Iglesias ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) out of your lineup. As for Andrew Romine ($2,300, 4.6% of cap), his likely replacement, he does not carry enough fantasy value to put him on your roster.

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (hand) was removed from the game against the Kansas City Royals in the top of the third inning, after getting hit on his right hand by a pitched ball while attempting to bunt.
Fantasy Tip: If Iglesias ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is forced to miss a considerable amount of time, Andrew Romine ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will see regular playing time at shortstop. However, he is not much more than a desperation source of FantasyScore cap relief.
Thu, 03 Sep 2015 14:49:30 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is expected to return to make at least one start before the end of the season, but his fantasy impact could be minimal. He last pitched Tuesday, Aug. 18, and might only make a single start with the Tigers in late September. So really, you're looking at a desperation stash at this point. Temper your expectations and don't be worried about cutting bait.

Fantasy Tip: Lobstein ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) had a 4.34 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in eight starts (47 2/3 innings) for the Tigers earlier this year. He should definitely be avoided in daily games in his first start since May 23, and he could have his innings monitored down the stretch.
Wed, 02 Sep 2015 21:48:20 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Wait until Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) can make it through a full game without any lingering effects of his injury before trusting him in FantasyScore again.
Wed, 02 Sep 2015 14:56:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) will likely platoon with Jarrod Dyson ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) in right field with Alex Rios (illness) on the shelf with chickenpox. Gomes has fared well against southpaws this season with a .453 slugging percentage. Still, he is more of a flier than a target at FantasyScore Wednesday.
Wed, 02 Sep 2015 14:05:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Gordon ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) Wednesday, and don't be surprised if he receives a few extra days of rest while working his way back from his groin injury. Orlando ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) checks out as a low-priced flier at FantasyScore Wednesday.
Wed, 02 Sep 2015 13:58:44 -0700
Kansas City Royals 3B Mike Moustakas (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 2. 3B Cheslor Cuthbert is starting at third base and batting eighth against Detroit Tigers SP Randy Wolf Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Moustakas ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. He is currently heating up with a .333/.387/.684 slash line, four home runs and 16 RBI over his past 15 games and is expected to return soon. Cuthbert is nothing more than a dice roll for daily contests Wednesday.
Wed, 02 Sep 2015 13:53:14 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Avila ($3,300,6.6% of cap) is having a disappointing season with a .178 batting average, and he is nothing more than a desperation option in AL-only, cavernous mixed and two-catcher formats. FantasyScore players can fade him without worry. McCann ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is currently struggling, too, as he has .194/.237/.292 slash line over his past 19 games.
