Fantasy Tip: Cabrera has his average back up to .300, and while he is no longer an elite option, he is a still a must-start in all formats.

Fantasy Tip: Collins has some upside in the potent Detroit lineup, but he's struggled thus far in 2016 with a 5-for-31 run at the dish. View Collins as a fringe starter in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues until J.D. Martinez returns from his elbow injury. And Collins isn't the worst option in daily contests among the low-priced fliers.

Fantasy Tip: As a previous tip suggested, keep Zimmermann stashed in all formats until he is ready, but exercise caution afterward because his recent ERA was close to 6.00.

Fantasy Tip: Keep Martinez stashed on your bench in deeper AL and mixed leagues, as he may be close to a comeback.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera's bat hasn't slowed down, but his power did. This marked Cabrera's first home run since June 29. It's either feast or famine with Cabrera, meaning he'll either give you a single or a homer when at-bat. Still, that's good enough to give Cabrera a spot in any league from daily to annual.

Fantasy Tip: Kinsler has four home runs and 11 hits total in his last seven games. He has been the traditional leadoff hitter for the Tigers, and Kinsler has set the table very well. Play him in all formats from daily to regular.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Shields evening out of late, he's prone to allowing the long ball, which makes Salty a consideration as a deep sleeper at catcher tonight in DFS games. Saltalamacchia is hitting just .201 on the season but does have nine home runs in 144 at-bats.

Detroit Tigers RP Francisco Rodriguez suffered his first loss of the season Wednesday, July 20, against the Minnesota Twins. In a 1-1 tie, Rodriguez entered the ballgame in the ninth inning and proceeded to give up three runs (one earned), thanks to two home runs, in two-thirds of an inning. His record is now 1-1.
Fantasy Tip: There are many, many closers who, for whatever reason, manage to struggle whenever they're put into the ballgame in a non-save opportunity, and K-Rod is simply one of those pitchers. It was the same familiar scenario in this one, and miraculously, Rodriguez served up as many homers in the ninth inning as he did for the entire season over 33 2/3 total innings prior to today's contest. He'll be fine after this.

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander was terrific in his outing Wednesday, July 20, versus the Minnesota Twins, but ended up with a no-decision for his efforts. The right-hander worked eight strong innings, surrendering only one run on two hits and two walks. He also recorded nine strikeouts.
Fantasy Tip: Verlander deserved better here in terms of the outcome, but his counterpart today, Ervin Santana, was equally as effective. Nonetheless, that's now four starts in a row where the former AL Cy Young award winner has allowed two runs or less, while also registering 32 K's over that stretch. He's also 7-2 in his last nine decisions and should be plugged in regularly for most leagues whenever he's on the hill.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Aviles to hit in the lower portion of the lineup, and he's a low-end fantasy option in all formats Wednesday. Make sure to remove Collins from all starting lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Steady playing time in a strong lineup keeps Iglesias in the fold for cavernous mixed and AL-only owners, but his real value is as a cheap flier in daily contests when Detroit faces a southpaw. Igelsias owns a respectable .289/.351/.417 slash line against lefties. Romine is a desperation start in all fantasy settings Wednesday given his career .285 slugging percentage.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 07:20:02 -0700
Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander has allowed just four earned runs over 19 2/3 innings over his past three outings since being knocked around for eight earned runs by the Cleveland Indians Sunday, June 26. Verlander is starting against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, July 20.
Fantasy Tip: Verlander has shown better of late and allowed two runs or fewer in nine of his past 13 outings for a 2.91 ERA over 89 2/3 innings with 97 punchouts during the stretch. View him as a solid mid-rotation hurler for your virtual team going forward and a viable option in daily contests Wednesday.

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) made a minor-league rehab start Monday, July 18, but the team might not be in a rush after SP Anibal Sanchez posted a quality start Tuesday, July 19. Manager Brad Ausmus was non-committal about a timetable for Norris.
Fantasy Tip: Norris would be worth a look in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues and as a salary saver in DFS play if he can officially return and prove his health in a full start or two without any setbacks.
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 21:27:18 -0700
Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez allowed three earned runs, seven hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts over six innings in a quality start and loss Tuesday, July 19, against the Minnesota Twins. He threw 69 of his 100 pitches for strikes.
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez was unable to put the brakes on a three-game losing skid, but it was his first quality start since being reinstated to the rotation. Still, he cannot be trusted outside of deeper NL-only fantasy leagues.

Detroit Tigers SP Matt Boyd allowed three hits and a walk over six scoreless innings to secure his first victory of the season Monday, July 18, against the Minnesota Twins. He also struck out seven batters in the 101-pitch quality start.
Fantasy Tip: Boyd has turned things around in the month of July, allowing just one earned run and seven hits with three walks and 13 strikeouts over 11 innings for a 1-0 record and 1.80 ERA. It's just two starts, but it's a start. Still, for now, he remains useful only in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues.
