Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) underwent surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in November, but he appears to be doing well in his rehab and is leaving open the possibility of returning by Opening Day. Brantley has already taken part in conditioning drills but is unsure when he will be cleared to begin a hitting program.
Fantasy Tip: Brantley hit .310 with 15 homers and 84 RBI in 137 games last season despite dealing with back issues and setbacks to both shoulders. As promising as an early return sounds now, owners would be wise to stick the original timeline of May or June when considering him on draft day. At the moment, he should probably be considered a low-end second or high-end third outfielder.

The Cleveland Indians have offered free-agent INF Juan Uribe (Mets) a one-year deal worth about $3 million. He reportedly wants more money if he is going to be a starting player but would settle for less money as a reserve.
Fantasy Tip: If Cleveland winds up signing Uribe, he would likely platoon at the hot corner with Giovanny Urshela. He should be viewed strictly as an option for the later rounds of single-universe and deep mixed leagues due to the limited amount of playing time he would likely receive.

Fantasy Tip: For the first month of the season, should Kipnis hit third, he projects to see more RBI opportunities and likely score fewer runs. However, it isn't a huge difference maker for his fantasy value. Kipnis bounced back with an All-Star season in 2015, and he checks out as a high-end option at the keystone and is worth a look in the early middle rounds of drafts entering 2016. Brantley is a speculative grab and stash outside the top-100 picks.

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) said he's unsure when he'll begin taking swings, but full health is important for him to repeat his swing mechanics throughout the season. Brantley said he's targeting the season opener, but he's unsure of his timetable.
Fantasy Tip: Brantley is likely pegged to return in May or June, which will limit his fantasy output to a low-end OF2 or a high-end OF3.

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) did agility work and played catch Thursday, Jan. 28. His shoulder looked good in footwork drills, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Zack Meisel.
Fantasy Tip: The early word is that Brantley could be out until May or June, but he's a solid complementary outfielder in fantasy if you can snag him as a later OF2.

Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin is currently penciled in the starting rotation for the 2016 season, according to general manager Mike Chernoff. However, Chernoff also noted that Tomlin has experience pitching in relief.
Fantasy Tip: Tomlin will enter spring training as the No. 5 starter/swingman for Cleveland. He's not a strikeout arm and pitches more to contact, making him really only useful in deep AL-only setups if he keeps his rotation spot.

Cleveland Indians OF Lonnie Chisenhall is expected to see the bulk of at-bats in right field in 2016, considering he hits better against right-handed pitching. OF Collin Cowgill could platoon with Chisenhall in right, but he can also play center and left field.
Fantasy Tip: Because he likely won't be an everyday player, Chisenhall is more of a late-round target in deep mixed leagues and AL-only formats. He had six of his seven home runs against righties in 2015, so he's certainly a streaming option when facing the right right-hander.

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) may be able to return some time in April or May, but the team will be cautious with him and could hold him out until June if his progress is coming along slowly.
Fantasy Tip: Despite playing in 137 games in 2015, Brantley still managed to hit .310 and club 15 home runs. But it was a disappointing season for his owners, and because of that, many will likely be off his scent in 2016. Because he's likely to miss the start of the season, Brantley could be an excellent value pick in drafts if you're willing to take on a little added risk.

Fantasy Tip: Believe it or not, Tomlin actually holds the Major League record for most consecutive starts of five innings or more to begin a career with 37. He was quietly good last year after returning from shoulder surgery, logging 10 starts en route to finishing 7-2 with a 3.02 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. The potential is there for Tomlin to perhaps be one of the surprise All-Stars of 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Allen had a big year last year with 34 saves, a 2.99 ERA and a 12.85 K/9. He could come at a significant value as a low-end RP1 in fantasy.
Fri, 15 Jan 2016 10:19:40 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Chisenhall has failed to live up to his hype, but he still has time and is worth the AL-only flyer.

Fantasy Tip: Allen had a big year last year with 34 saves, a 2.99 ERA and a 12.85 K/9. You don't hear him among the elite closers and could come at a significant value as a low-end first reliever in fantasy.

Fantasy Tip: If signed, it is expected that Uribe would platoon at the hot corner with Giovanny Urshela. The 36-year-old hit .253 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs in 119 regular-season games with the Braves and Mets last season and should be selected in the later rounds of drafts for single-universe fantasy leagues.

Cleveland Indians 1B Carlos Santana will not be the club's full-time designated hitter this year with 1B Mike Napoli in the fold, according to manager Terry Francona. Santana has voiced his distaste for the DH role in the past, but Napoli is a superior first baseman and is ahead of Santana on the depth chart at the position. Francona said Santana will still see innings at first base, and he could see limited time at third base, too. The Indians could try him in left field, but Santana has only logged four career innings there in 2012.
Fantasy Tip: Santana has hit .231 two seasons in a row, and in 2015 his homer output dropped from 27 to 19. He shouldn't lose first base eligibility for 2017, but there's not a ton to like outside of that. Don't bank on him adding third base or outfield eligibility. A rebound of his average could be in store, which could make him a sleeper as a late-round corner infielder in deep mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Napoli should see less wear and tear on his body playing at first, which may increase his power numbers. Playing in the confines of Progressive Field will also help. For now, Napoli is an alluring target for the middle rounds of AL and mixed leagues.
