Suspended Mayfield Motorsports driver Jeremy Mayfield is intent on returning to NASCAR and is ready to do "whatever it takes" to get back to driving, including drug rehabilitation. He's hoping to reach a plea bargain in his case that doesn't include jail time on 19 felony charges. His first step on returning will be to enter NASCAR's Road to Recovery program.

Mayfield Motorsports driver Jeremy Mayfield said he is interested in returning to racing. He's been suspended since he failed a drug test in 2009 for methamphetamines. "Well, Jeremy, you know the path back for you," NASCAR chairman Brian France said. "It's the path back for anybody. I've always hoped that you would choose the right path and not litigation and a bunch of other things. But that's up to you."

He requested that the injunction be permanently dropped so the case can move quickly.

David Newton, of ESPN.com, reports Mayfield Motorsports driver Jeremy Mayfield's stepmother is seeking damages against her stepson for public comments he made in regard to his civil case against NASCAR, according to court documents. Lisa Mayfield is seeking compensatory damages in excess of $10,000, punitive damages in excess of $10,000 and any other "relief as the court may deem just and proper."

The Associated Press reports NASCAR said Monday, July 27, that Mayfield Motorsports driver Jeremy Mayfield lied to a federal court about the chronology of a second random drug test. Mayfield said a July 6 request for a second drug test went to voicemail and he did not receive the message until 40 minutes later. NASCAR is saying it has a recording of the actual phone call.

David Newton, of ESPN.com, reports suspended Sprint Cup owner/driver Jeremy Mayfield sold his hauler and inventory of cars and parts to John Carter. Carter plans to compete in as many races as he can the rest of the year. The deal, according to Carter, included six cars. Four of Mayfield's former crew members, including crew chief Tony Furr, are currently employed by Carter.

Dave Rodman, of NASCAR.com, reports Mayfield Motorsports driver Jeremy Mayfield said he is "80 percent there" on receiving a major sponsorship deal that could let him once again drive in the Sprint Cup Series. However, he is not currently on the entry list for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. "I'd like to come to Indy just to come watch, and to try to get a ride," Mayfield said. "We're working on sponsorship deals as we speak and I'm telling you, if this works out, it's going to be big."
