Fantasy Tip: Hoover is the front runner to be the team's closer this year, and he's a high-end RP3 in fantasy.

Cincinnati Reds OF Scott Schebler will be in the mix for playing time in left field in 2016, and he could be in a platoon role. He had three home runs in 40 plate appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year after hitting .241/.322/.410 with 13 home runs in 121 games at Class AAA. Competition in left field is unlikely to include OF Jesse Winker, one of Cincy's biggest prospects.
Fantasy Tip: Schebler could be interesting to those in NL-only and really deep mixed leagues because of his intriguing power profile, but only if he wins at least a share of the left field job.

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price said he'd like to see 2B Jose Peraza play multiple positions this spring. Peraza came up as a shortstop but has mainly played second base, although he's also spent some time in the outfield.
Fantasy Tip: With Brandon Phillips likely staying in town, Peraza will have to piece together his at-bats at multiple positions as a utility man unless an injury opens up significant playing time. If he does work his way into everyday playing time, he'd be useful in most leagues for his stolen base prowess.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips should be one of the key Reds entering the season with some of the trades that have been made. He should be considered a decent pickup on draft day as his speed has picked up once again.

Fantasy Tip: Hoover has been the de-facto closer-in-waiting for a couple of years, and he'll be a high-end third reliever if he lands the gig.

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton (shoulder) said rehab for his surgically-repaired right shoulder is coming along well, although he's not at 100% yet. He was cleared to resume baseball activities in December and started throwing earlier this month, with long tossing expected to begin after spring training camp opens. "I'm throwing, hitting, lifting weights and doing all my therapy," Hamilton said. "I'm not limited or anything. My shoulder feels good."
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton is arguably the best base stealer in the majors, so he will be overvalued in most fantasy formats despite a subpar batting average and on-base percentage. In 114 regular-season games last year, he hit .226 with a .274 on-base percentage over 412 at-bats. He was successful on 57 of his 65 stolen-base attempts but only collected 15 extra-base hits.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) has had no setbacks since undergoing season-ending surgery on his left hip June 27, and he has "every expectation" that he will be healthy and ready to go from the first day of camp.
Fantasy Tip: After a breakout campaign in 2014 in which he registered 25 home runs and 80 RBI, Mesoraco was an immense disappointment a season ago, as he was limited to just 23 games thanks to injuries. However, all signs point to him being healthy at the start this time around, making him a fine sleeper candidate.

Free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Diamondbacks) was recently spotted at Great American Ballpark, and speculation is he has bought a house in the Cincinnati area.
Fantasy Tip: Arroyo may be ready for a reunion with the Reds, where he pitched from 2006 to 2013. Still, be careful. Arroyo has not pitched since 2014 and he is coming off Tommy John surgery.

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips rejected the potential trade to the Washington Nationals, and president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty is not overly optimistic Phillips will be traded during the offseason.
Fantasy Tip: Phillips is a low- to mid-range second base option entering 2016. His 23 stolen bases last season were the most he has swiped since the 2009 campaign, and he had his best slash line (.294/.328/.395) of the past three years. Still, entering his age-35 campaign, there is little upside for additional improvement, and statistical decline looms over Phillips.

Fantasy Tip: From 2011 to 2013, Bruce averaged 32 home runs and 102 RBI per season with a respectable .257/.332/.488 slash line, but he has struggled in consecutive seasons with an average of 22 homers and 76 RBI with a .222/.288/.406 line. Entering his age-29 season, there is room for a resurgence from the fallen slugger, and Bruce is worth a speculative flier in the second half of drafts this spring, especially if power is a category of need.

Updating a previous report, the Cincinnati Reds acquired RP Caleb Cotham, SP Rookie Davis, 3B Eric Jagielo and 2B Tony Renda from the New York Yankees in exchange for RP Aroldis Chapman Monday, Dec. 28.
Fantasy Tip: J.J. Hoover has five saves during his career and posted a 2.94 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a 7.3 K/9 last season, and he stands as the current favorite to win the closer role for 2016. Tony Cingrani is a potential wildcard, and it isn't out of the question that someone else will emerge leading into the season. The prospects acquired by Cincinnati don't project to make a fantasy impact next year.

The Cincinnati Reds believe 2B Jose Peraza can be a starter at second base. They love his speed and bat at only 21 years old. However, rival evaluators remain hesitant on Peraza because of a lack of power, low on-base percentage and questions on defense.
Fantasy Tip: If the Reds trade Brandon Phillips away this offseason, Peraza will have a great shot at steady playing time for the rebuilding Reds. If that happens, Peraza will have some value in NL-only and deep mixed leagues for stolen bases.

Fantasy Tip: Suarez impressed with a .280-13-48 line in 372 at-bats. He'll be a low-end flyer because of his SS eligibility for the MI spot.
Wed, 16 Dec 2015 09:35:46 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Peraza is the headliner here. He had a .293-4-42 line with 45 steals at Class AAA last season. He could ultimately allow the team to trade Brandon Phillips and give him the starting second base job. He would be worth a flyer in mixed leagues in that scenario. Schebler fell off a bit with a .241-13-50 season at Class AAA last year after hitting 55 homers between High-A and Class AA. Dixon had a .263-19-68 line between High-A and Class AA in 2015. Schebler and Dixon are probably a bit away from the majors.

Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier is gaining attention from the Washington Nationals, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, in addition to the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox. A handful of teams are interested because of the fact that Frazier could be used at third base or in the outfield.
Fantasy Tip: Frazier is one of the top power-hitting third basemen in the league right now, so the Reds will require a hefty package in return as they look to rebuild. Frazier currently resides in one of the best hitting environments in MLB, too, but he'd remain an early-rounds target at third base in fantasy drafts even if he moves out of Great American Ballpark.
