Cincinnati Reds C Brayan Pena is serving as the designated hitter and hitting sixth in the batting order against Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco Friday, May 22. C Tucker Barnhart gets the start behind the dish and is hitting ninth in the order.
Fantasy Tip: Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) who is hitting .322 (29-for-90) with no homers and four RBI, is also excelling from the left side against right-handers, going 23-for-62 (.371) this year. At his price, it's hard not to like him as a sleeper option at catcher. Barnhart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be ignored.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting .368 (21-for-57) with a home run and eight RBI in the month of May and hasn't had trouble hitting righties this year (.304/.349/.373) with both of his home runs. Carrasco has good stuff but has allowed right-handers to hit .310 (31-for-100) with two home runs off him this year. Phillips isn't a bad bet at FantasyScore while he's swinging a hot stick, and a move to the top of the lineup could maximize his value.

Cincinnati Reds SP Jason Marquis was pulled from his start Wednesday, May 20, against the Kansas City Royals after 3 2/3 innings. Marquis allowed four runs, four hits, two sacrifice flies, two walks and a wild pitch.
Fantasy Tip: Reds manager Bryan Price did not say whether Marquis ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) would stay in the rotation, saying the whole team hasn't done well in his starts. Still, in losing his past three starts, Marquis has surrendered 21 hits and 15 runs in 12 1/3 innings for a 15.33 ERA. He is not worth the trouble, even at the lower price.

Fantasy Tip: Barnhart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) does have two home runs and a .308 average (8-for-26) in a small sample size, but he should remain a low-end catching commodity at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has been hot in the month of May (.346/.424/.404) with a home run and seven RBI in 52 at-bats for the Reds. He's also 4-for-6 with a double and home run in his career against Guthrie. Phillips could be a nice value pick in daily games this evening.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) squatted around 15 times behind the plate before the game Tuesday, May 19, and made around also made some light throws to second base. Mesoraco has not been the starting catcher since April 12 and has considered surgery if the injury does not improve with treatment and therapy.
Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has been limited to being a pinch hitter and a designated hitter for the last month and does not appear to be close to playing regularly. Owners on FantasyScore probably should avoid using Mesoraco until he sees more playing time.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is still under .200 (24-for-126) on the season, but he does have seven home runs and 19 RBI. The good news is that he's 7-for-24 (.292) with two homers since May 11, and the matchup is in his favor while facing the struggling Ventura. However, Bruce is a boom-or-bust FantasyScore selection.

Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has been kept out of the lineup for most of the season with a hip injury, but this week in an American League park he should see time as the DH, making him relevant once again at FantasyScore. Against the struggling Ventura, Mesoraco could make for a sneaky sleeper pick tonight.
Tue, 19 May 2015 15:40:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting a robust .337 (29-for-86) with no home runs and four RBI this year, including .397 (23-for-58) against right-handed hurlers. Ventura has struggled in 2015 and lefty swingers have an .821 OPS against him this year. With a spot at the top of the order, Pena is an intriguing value play at a weak position.
Tue, 19 May 2015 15:36:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) really isn't doing anything for FantasyScore users aside from stealing bases, which he has 17 of in 19 tries. A move to the bottom of the order permanently will make him very unattractive for his price unless he starts getting on base more often.
Sun, 17 May 2015 07:53:35 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) will have his potential greatly reduced while hitting so low in the batting order. Hamilton can still be a threat on the bases, but his ability to score runs will be greatly reduced.
Sat, 16 May 2015 19:35:51 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been enduring a miserable year, and he is hitting .163 with four RBIs in 13 games this month. He needs to be avoided at FantasyScore until he shows some consistency at the plate.
Sat, 16 May 2015 13:26:13 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cozart ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has hit well all season and is hitting .381-1-5 in the last seven days. He's a good midrange option on FantasyScore.
Sat, 16 May 2015 13:22:18 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Boesch ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a low-end flyer without a lot of luster on FantasyScore.
Sat, 16 May 2015 11:07:49 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Boesch ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is starting in place of Billy Hamilton ($5,000, 10.0% of cap), who is batting just .212 against right-handed pitching this season. Despite Boesch's low price tag, you should avoid using him in FantasyScore tonight because of his lack of offensive production.
