Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) is likely to require surgery on his hip that would need a four-month recovery. However, he's trying to do all possible treatments in the meantime.
Fantasy Tip: It's looking increasingly likely that Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) might not due his fantasy owners any good in 2015 at all. If you haven't already, you'll need to find a capable catching replacement for Mesoraco in standard leagues. Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a low-end catching matchup play at FantasyScore.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) has yet to test his injured hip by squatting, and he's still trying to avoid surgery, which would cost him four months of rehab. Mesoraco will see at-bats as the designated hitter when the team plays the Chicago White Sox.
Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) last played Sunday, and it looks like he'll avoid the disabled list for now. But you should avoid him at FantasyScore for the foreseeable future or until he's back in the lineup on a regular basis and catching. Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a low-cost consideration against right-handed pitchers in the meantime.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is getting a slot higher in the lineup with Zack Cozart out due to an injured finger. He may be worth a pickup due to his lower cost and getting more at-bats in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Remove Cozart ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) from your lineup until he is 100 percent healthy. It may be just another game or two. Negron ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) may be a way to save a bit of money and spend it other places, and he might be a good low-cost alternative.

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto is taking 58.8% of pitches thrown at him and seeing 4.24 pitches per plate appearance, but he's also swinging at more than 70% of pitches inside the strike zone in 2015 for the first time since his MVP season in 2010, per FanGraphs. He's hitting .385 with a 1.154 OPS when he swings at the first pitch, which he's doing 4.8% more often than he did in 2013.
Fantasy Tip: The most important thing for Votto ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) appears to be that he's fully healthy after seeing his power sapped due to injuries in the last couple of years. He looks primed for a rebound season, and you should feel very comfortable rolling with him at FantasyScore right now.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has a 2.72 ERA and two wins in six starts this year despite allowing five earned runs in six innings to the Atlanta Braves yesterday. He'll continue to be a strong FantasyScore pitching option every five days
Sun, 03 May 2015 14:18:27 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Marquis ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has a high 5.22 ERA but is 3-1 in four decisions with nine walks and 28 strikeouts. He is a decent low-cost option depending on the pitching matchup.
Sun, 03 May 2015 14:13:24 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) just had a bad day. All five of his starts prior to this have been good, so don't hesitate to start him again next time out.
Sun, 03 May 2015 13:58:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cozart ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) may miss a game, but the odds are equally good he'll be all right for the next contest. Keep an eye on his progress.

Fantasy Tip: Schumaker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has not received many starts this season and has four hits in 20 at-bats. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options to use for their lineups.
Sun, 03 May 2015 09:30:30 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Boesch ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has not done much at the plate in his limited playing time this season and should not be a starting option for owners on FantasyScore.
Sun, 03 May 2015 09:20:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has struggled at the plate this season and likely is receiving a day off. Skip Schumaker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will receive a rare start but is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.
Sun, 03 May 2015 09:04:14 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) likely is just receiving a day off. Brennan Boesch ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will be the starting center fielder but should not be an option for owners on FantasyScore.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto has the best WHIP in the National League and has a chance to take the MLB leads in both innings pitched and strikeouts when he pitches Sunday, May 3, against the Atlanta Braves.
Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) is starting his contract year the right way. Cueto's 1.95 ERA is more than a full run better than his xFIP, but with a strikeout rate of 9.24 K/9, Cueto is a dominant FantasyScore pitcher in matchups just like this one.

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in an 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves Saturday, May 2, and he now leads all shortstops with five home runs this season.
Fantasy Tip: Cozart ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hit four home runs in 506 at-bats last year, and he has already topped that total in just 91 at-bats this year. It is hard to imagine him continuing this pace all season, but in the meantime, he is a great value play at FantasyScore.
