Cincinnati Reds news, rumors and injuries

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (thumb, hands) is dealing with injuries to both of his hands, and he aggravated a left thumb injuring swinging Sunday, June 28. There is nothing to indicate that Phillips is in danger of landing on the disabled list, although he's not playing Monday, June 29. Phillips is riding a six-game hitting streak and is batting .300 (71-for-237) since April 12. He tested his hands before the game Monday.
Fantasy Tip: Phillips ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has five home runs, 30 RBI and also 11 stolen bases in 2015 and has been a very nice value play the past couple of months. Ivan De Jesus ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is a desperation source of salary cap relief for daily gamers.

Fantasy Tip: Iglesias ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) had a 5.11 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in four starts for the Reds before going on the DL. Oblique injuries are tricky, so he's likely to need at least several rehab starts before Cincy considers returning him to the starting rotation. You can leave Iglesias on the waiver wire in shallow mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Barnhart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 8-for-15 over his last four games with a 1.296 OPS. It is a small sample size, but he stands out as a solid upside source of cap relief for FantasyScore players Monday. Pena ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has only started three of the past seven games, and the catching situation is worth monitoring for owners in cavernous mixed, NL-only and two-catcher formats.

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (hand) is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 29. 2B Ivan De Jesus is starting at the keystone and batting second against Minnesota Twins SP Mike Pelfrey Monday.
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Phillips ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) in all formats Monday. His frequent injuries are becoming a real damper on what has been a bounce-back campaign from the veteran. De Jesus ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has played sparingly, and he is currently sporting a 6-for-34 run with 12 strikeouts and a .458 OPS. FantasyScore players shouldn't view De Jesus as anything more than a desperation source of cap relief Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has a .250 on-base percentage over his past 12 games with five stolen bases. He has huge upside because of his speed, but Hamilton is a risky FantasyScore play because he is struggling to reach base consistently. Batting leadoff is a value boost, though.

Fantasy Tip: Barnhart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has six hits in his last three games, so he's not the worst starting option at catcher on FantasyScore today, especially at such a cheap price.
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 12:58:02 -0700
Fantasy Tip: De Jesus ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has held his own since making his first start earlier this month, but has also struck out 13 times in 10 games. He's not the best starting option against Matt Harvey today
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 12:57:27 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) hasn't done a lot with the limited playing time he's been given this year. It's probably best to fade him against Harvey today, unless you want to use more of your salary cap at other positions.
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 12:53:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been swinging the bat well recently. He's hit two homers in his last six games and has eight hits total in those six games. Harvey has pitched splendidly in his last two outings, which could bode poorly for Byrd, but he's a good starting option until he stops this hot streak he's on.

Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier, whose name has been mentioned in trade rumors regarding the New York Mets, said that he would like to remain with the only organization he's ever played for. "I haven't really thought about it," Frazier said. "It's all rumors and speculation - I haven't really heard anything. Right now I'm a Red, I'm glad to be a Red, and that's where I want to be."
Fantasy Tip: Frazier ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has had an outstanding season, batting .292 with 24 home runs and 59 RBIs through 71 games entering play Friday, June 26. He is tied for second in the majors in homers and is on pace to finish the season with 55. With good reason, he continues to be a popular and safe pick at the hot corner in FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Byrd ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He has gone 8-for-26 with two home runs over his six games since returning from injury. Dominguez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been respectable when given a chance, and he stands as desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore players.

Fantasy Tip: Chapman missed a few days while on the paternity list, and J.J. Hoover recorded the save Wednesday night in his absence. Those in deeper mixed leagues that are desperate for saves may want to speculate on Hoover in case Chapman is traded this summer.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Bruce ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. He is currently in fine form and sporting a seven-game hitting streak with nine runs, three home runs, nine RBI and a .467/.500/.900 slash line. Against Burnett, Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore contests Thursday.
Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:38:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Phillips ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is a risky FantasyScore play Thursday. Burnett has limited opponents, and there is a chance Phillips is playing at less than 100%, given he sat out Wednesday, June 24, after aggravating his surgically repaired thumb.
Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:25:22 -0700
Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 25. 3B Josh Harrison is starting in right field and batting first, and OF Gregory Polanco is starting in left field and batting second against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) left a game last week with an ankle injury, but it is likely just a night off for the outfielder Thursday. Make sure to avoid him in FantasyScore contests and keep an eye out for updates concerning any potential injuries. Harrison ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) and Polanco ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) are worth considering for daily contests Thursday, but neither are lineup locks.
