Cincinnati Reds news, rumors and injuries

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. 2B Ivan De Jesus is starting at second base again and is hitting second against New York Mets SP Matt Harvey.
Fantasy Tip: De Jesus hit his first home run of the year last night, but that shouldn't lead you to believe he'll be a great value play in daily games two days in a row. After all, De Jesus has only five career home runs, including his long ball last night.

Fantasy Tip: Bailey continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. He isn't a bad stash option in NL-only fantasy leagues and some deeper mixed formats, but he still has a while before he is fantasy relevant again.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger, shin, foot) is dealing with several nagging injuries, and that's why he was sidelined Tuesday, April 26. He fouled consecutive pitches off his left foot and shin Monday, April 25, and was hit on the left ring finger by a fastball. Manager Bryan Price said his shin had inflammation.
Fantasy Tip: With Phillips sidelined it was Eugenio Suarez stepping into the cleanup spot. Keep Phillips reserved in all fantasy leagues, and avoid him in DFS play, until he can officially return and prove his health.

Fantasy Tip: The 29-year-old had his first rehab outing five days ago and looked promising, displaying solid command and picking up six strikeouts in less than four innings of work. He'll have potential to contribute right away when he makes it back to the majors. Before going down with Tommy John last year, Bailey had accumulated 33 wins, not to mention a no-hitter, in the prior three seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips may miss a bit of time but the X-rays were negative. If you are in daily leagues keep an eye out for his status and avoid him accordingly. De Jesus is 2-for-9 in the past week and carries little, if any, fantasy value.

Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (finger), who was hit on the finger Monday, April 25, said he hopes to play again Tuesday, April 26, after X-rays on his injured finger came back negative. "Probably the most painful at-bat I ever had in my career," Phillips said. Phillips has 33 straight hits in road games he has played against the New York Mets.
Fantasy Tip: There's a good chance Phillips won't be in the starting lineup tonight, so make plans to be without him. It looks like he dodged a bullet, though, and he should continue to be fantasy relevant as a midrange second baseman with the ability to contribute across all categories.

Fantasy Tip: That's certainly never good to get plunked by someone who throws as hard as Syndergaard. It's not known what the severity of the injury might be but if he has to miss any time, Ivan De Jesus would probably benefit the most. More should be known following the game.
Mon, 25 Apr 2016 12:55:02 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Since entering the league, Syndergaard has limited opposing hitters to a .222/.265/.366 slash line, and he has been better to start 2016. Hamilton hasn't started since Wednesday, April 20, so it's likely best to wait for a better matchup to return him to your starting lineups in all fantasy formats. Hamilton is 6-for-38 to start the season, after all.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce could be out for a few days, and Tyler Holt and/or Scott Schebler could see a few more starts this week as a result, with Billy Hamilton (thumb) still banged up. Bruce is hitting .265 and has four home runs and 15 RBI on the year and should be put back into all starting lineups when he returns.

Fantasy Tip: It was his first at-bat in four days, which is a sign his thumb is on the mend. He's only hitting .158 and doesn't offer much outside of steals. It's hard to start him right now, but he could be worth an OF5 spot because he can swipe bags in bunches.
Sun, 24 Apr 2016 08:14:09 -0700
Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco and SS Zack Cozart are out of the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel Sunday, April 24. C Tucker Barnhart will start behind the plate and bat seventh, while INF Ivan De Jesus will play shortstop and bat eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Barnhart is 8-for-24 this season and is a solid option for daily fantasy owners looking for an inexpensive backstop. De Jesus has just one hit in 18 at-bats and should be avoided in all formats this afternoon.
Sun, 24 Apr 2016 07:28:28 -0700
Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani was limited to a pitch count of 60-65 and struggled with his hanging breaking pitches, allowing both of his homers on curveballs. He is expected to make one more rehab start for Pensacola before a possible return to the majors. DeSclafani should remain stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues but should be avoided in daily fantasy games in his first start or two following his return.
Sat, 23 Apr 2016 20:02:08 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Suarez owns a .303 average with five homers, 14 RBI and three steals on the young season, and with shortstop eligibility, he is a must-own in all formats.
Sat, 23 Apr 2016 19:00:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Duvall has three home runs and eight RBI this year, and the promise of regular at-bats in a hitter-friendly home park could make him worth grabbing in NL-only formats.
Sat, 23 Apr 2016 11:35:35 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Schebler is just 6-for-35 with four RBI through 15 games this season and is not a great option in any fantasy format.
