Cincinnati Reds news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Finnegan has been used exclusively as a reliever at the major league level but the Reds may opt to turn him back into a full-time starter, a role he excelled at in college. Lamb was 9-1 with a 2.67 ERA in 17 starts for Class AAA Omaha, while Reed was 7-7 with a 2.53 ERA in 18 games (15 starts) for Class AA Wichita. Of the three, Finnegan appears to have the most upside and should be added in NL-only leagues and monitored in deep mixed fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Wheeler is expected to be sidelined until the middle of the 2016 season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery but could be used by the Mets as trade bait for offensive help, given their starting pitching depth. He is worth stashing in deep keeper and dynasty fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Votto ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has at least two hits in six of his last seven games with two home runs and three RBI during that span. Votto should be a nightly starting option in FantasyScore while he is on this hot streak.

Fantasy Tip: Votto ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) entered the game with a .447/.567/.723 slash line with nine runs, four doubles, three home runs and six RBI over his past 13 games, and is clearly in fine form for the rest of his series at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Continue to view Votto as a high-end fantasy option in all formats until he cools back down at the dish.

Fantasy Tip: Suarez ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has a solid .306/.344/.488 slash line through 130 plate appearances since taking over full-time duties at shortstop for the Reds. De Jesus ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) stands as an excellent source of cap relief with the game being played at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8.900, 17.8% of cap) struggled in two straight starts and has been inconsistent over his last seven, dating back to June 12. Combined with reports that his velocity being down, and fantasy owners should be cautious about acquiring him. A move to the pitcher-friendly confines of Kauffman Stadium and the contending Royals would be a significant boost to his fantasy value if he is healthy. AL-only players would have a fine waiver wire target to acquire.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is only batting .226 this season but perhaps this is a sign that he's starting to turn things around. After batting ninth for much of the year, Hamilton went 1-for-4 with two RBIs as the No. 7 hitter during the first game of the doubleheader and was moved to the leadoff spot for the nightcap. FantasyScore owners may want to avoid using him for another game or two just to make sure this wasn't a fluke.

Fantasy Tip: It was Cingrani's ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) first start since coming off the disabled list with a strained left shoulder, so the struggles he experienced weren't surprising. Avoid using him in FantasyScore until he demonstrates that he can consistently get outs.

Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier picked up three more hits Wednesday, July 22, in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the New York Mets. Frazier is now 6-for-12 with a homer and six RBI since receiving an off day Sunday, July 19.
Fantasy Tip: Frazier ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) has just one home run since winning the All Star Derby, but he's hot right now and the power will surely return to full force.
Wed, 22 Jul 2015 13:38:45 -0700
Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, July 22. 2B Ivan De Jesus is playing second base and batting eighth against Cubs SP Dallas Beeler Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Phillips ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday night. The veteran went just 1-for-5 in Game 1, which moves him to 9-for-23 over his past five contests. He is a low-end second baseman in the majority of formats. De Jesus ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) should be viewed as a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests.
Wed, 22 Jul 2015 06:59:05 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Bourgeois ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is just 3-for-18 on the year and isn't worth the flyer on FantasyScore.
Tue, 21 Jul 2015 10:39:56 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) isn't much of an option on FantasyScore. It's their fifth game in as many days so it's likely a routine day off for Hamilton.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto's last start in which he walked six batters gave one team interested in him pause. The executive said "yes, everything," when asked if they saw anything to be alarmed with about his last start Sunday, July 19.
Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) missed a short stint with inflammation in his elbow, and his control was way off in his last start. You might consider passing on him for his next turn on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Not only will it be Cingrani's ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) first start at the major league level this season, he is also working his way back from injury. FantasyScore players should likely pass on taking a leap of faith with the hard-throwing lefty. Seasonal owners in deep NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues should grab him now, though. There could be an opening in the rotation after the trade deadline.
Mon, 20 Jul 2015 14:39:54 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Leake ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has a 1.80 ERA with 16 strikeouts through 20 innings over his last three starts. The Cubs have the potential to make it a long day for Leake, though. He is worth considering as a No. 2 starting pitcher at FantasyScore Wednesday.
