Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in an 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves Saturday, May 2, and he now leads all shortstops with five home runs this season.
Fantasy Tip: Cozart ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hit four home runs in 506 at-bats last year, and he has already topped that total in just 91 at-bats this year. It is hard to imagine him continuing this pace all season, but in the meantime, he is a great value play at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: After throwing at least six innings in his first three starts of the season, DeSclafani ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has lasted just five innings in back-to-back starts. Hitters could be figuring him out a bit, and it might be smart to pass on the young pitcher at FantasyScore in his next start.

Cincinnati Reds SP Tony Cingrani will continue to pitch out of the bullpen, according to manager Bryan Price. Cingrani would likely need to be designated to the minors to stretch out his innings in order to join the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Continue to ignore Cingrani in the majority of formats, as it doesn't appear he'll join the rotation any time soon. He is also too far down the closer depth chart to warrant attention from the save chasers.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (elbow) has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will undergo Tommy John surgery. He's expected to return during the 2016 season. Dr. Timothy Kremchek will perform the surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Drop Bailey in all single-year fantasy formats. Tony Cingrani may be the Reds' best bet for a long-term rotation spot to replace Bailey, and he could be useful if you're hurting for rotation arms in deep mixed or NL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: You can now safely drop Bailey in all single-year formats, and he'll come at an extremely cheap injury discount in 2016 drafts. Michael Lorenzen ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) was unsuccessful in his major league debut filling in for Bailey this week, and he might not be the short-term solution for the rotation. Tony Cingrani has the most upside and may be the best long-term solution this year. If you're searching for rotation help in deep mixed leagues, he's worth a speculative add.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Phillips ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) from your lineups Thursday, and don't expect him to miss more than a game or two. Schumaker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 3-for-17 to start the season, so FantasyScore players should aim higher Thursday.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) is seven to 10 days away from returning, according to general manager Walt Jocketty. "The hip is getting better," Jocketty said. "We hope to have him catching in the next two weeks."
Fantasy Tip: Mesy owners will need to be patient for a couple more weeks. Tucker Barnhart and Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of your cap) are filling in but warrant no fantasy consideration.
Wed, 29 Apr 2015 07:21:26 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The move likely means Bailey will miss most of the first half, if not longer. Stash him on the DL if you can, but dropping him altogether is an option.
Wed, 29 Apr 2015 07:15:50 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Mesy ($4,900, 9.8% of your cap) hasn't had multiple at-bats for nearly three weeks now, which is frustrating for traditional leaguers. He last appeared April 24, which means a DL stint could only be backdated to that day. Avoid him on FantasyScore. Tucker Barnhart is in the lineup today but doesn't warrant consideration.
Wed, 29 Apr 2015 07:09:55 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Kris Negron ($1,600, 3.2% of your cap) is in at first, but he's not an option on FantasyScore.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 20:10:45 -0700
Fantasy Tip: At just $5,000 (or 10.0% of cap) Votto is a great mid-level source of power for FantasyScore owners, but he needs to start to hit with some consistency and avoid multi-game hitless slides. He already has seven homers this season.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto allowed two earned runs, three hits and no walks while striking out six batters over eight innings Tuesday, April 28, against the Milwaukee Brewers, evening his record at 2-2.
Fantasy Tip: Both of Cueto's wins have come against Milwaukee. In fact, he is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA against the lowly Brewers, and 0-2 with a 2.14 ERA in his other three outings. He hasn't received much in the way of run support against anyone, so if he starts getting that he will be an even bigger bargain for FantasyScore owners at $8,700 (opr 17.4% of cap).
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 16:41:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Bailey was likely dropped in all leagues but this news isn't enough to warrant a roster add. Johnny Cueto is the only Reds' starter worth owning in mixed leagues, while Mike Leake and Anthony DeSclafani should be streamed for favorable matchups.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:27:32 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Lorenzen will be a cheap commodity at FantasyScore in his major league debut, and against the struggling Brew Crew, he could be a fantastic profit play to outsmart your competition. It's unclear if this is just a spot start or if he'll remain in the rotation. Lorenzen was 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 19 innings for Triple-A Louisville this year.
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 14:19:18 -0700
Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (elbow) may need surgery on his pitching elbow, and the team is considering several options for treating his injured ligament in his right arm. Either way, Bailey will miss serious time recovering from his injury.
Fantasy Tip: If you aren't using Bailey ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) in one of your DL slots, he's not worth taking up anymore roster space. Surgery would likely be a Tommy John procedure, which would end his year and make him unavailable for the start of the 2016 season.
