Cincinnati Reds news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Dating back to last year, 30 of his 44 homers have come at home, and considering he plays home games in one of more hitter-friendly parks, it should come as no surprise that Frazier ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is a more valuable FantasyScore commodity when playing at Great American Ball Park.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (elbow) remains out with inflammation in his right elbow, and manager Bryan Price said the earliest Cueto would return would be during a series against the Philadelphia Phillies next week. Cueto has now missed two turns through the rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) could be a risky commodity at FantasyScore even if he returns to face the offensively inept Phillies next week after missing his last two starts. Tread carefully and continue to monitor his progress.

Cincinnati Reds SP Jason Marquis is being moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen after going 3-4 with a 6.46 ERA in nine starts this year. He allowed four runs and 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Colorado Rockies Monday, May 25.
Fantasy Tip: The move of Marquis to the bullpen is expected to open up a rotation spot for Raisel Iglesias ($3,700, 7.4% of cap), who gave up just two earned runs in three innings in a loss to the Cleveland Indians Sunday. Give Iglesias more time to build up his innings before trusting him at FantasyScore. He's strictly an NL-only arm for now.

Fantasy Tip: Phillips ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has not been in the starting lineup for three straight games, so owners should monitor the situation. Schumaker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is batting .242 this month, but owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options.

Fantasy Tip: Cozart ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has been on a bit of a cold streak with only two hits in his last eight games. Owners on FantasyScore may want to look for other options to use in their lineups.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has five multi-hit games during the same stretch and is striking out less. He still isn't producing enough to demand you attention at FantasyScore, but he could be a nice buy-low candidate in seasonal leagues.
Wed, 27 May 2015 09:19:36 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Barnhart ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a very weak FantasyScore catching option, even against Kendrick, who is 0-3 with a 13 earned runs in 25 1/3 innings in his four starts in May.
Wed, 27 May 2015 07:16:06 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Through 114 career at-bats, Ynoa ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) sports a .325 batting average and 11 runs and 17 RBI. Hitting in front of the team's top three hitters is plus-spot in the lineup, and Ynoa is worth considering as a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Phillips ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. There was speculation he might be able to play Wednesday, so seasonal owners shouldn't anticipate a lengthy absence. While Schumaker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is cheap and in a prime lineup spot, he is nothing more than a low-price flier for FantasyScore contests.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) should be given an extra start or two upon his return before FantasyScore owners reinvest.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (elbow) must still throw in the next few days to make sure the stiffness and soreness in his right elbow is gone, according to manager Bryan Price. "Before we can schedule a bullpen session and then schedule his next start. It will be a couple of days before we know when he will be back in the rotation. He has to kick the tires on how the elbow feels," Price said.
Fantasy Tip: It's unknown when Cueto's ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) next start will come, and depending on the matchup, you may want to avoid paying up for him at FantasyScore until we know he's back to 100% health.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips (toe) had his turf toe issue flare up on him again Tuesday, May 26, which is why he wasn't in the starting lineup. "He aggravated it in Cleveland, but until you actually see it on the field you are not going to hear much about it from Brandon," said manager Bryan Price. "He is not going to alert anybody about it. He'll just go out and play and when it becomes noticeable we take the lead to make sure he gets adequate treatment and not continue to aggravate it."
Fantasy Tip: Phillips ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) could return tomorrow, but check the team's starting lineup before running with him at FantasyScore. Kris Negron ($2,000, 4.0% of cap), who started for Phillips Tuesday, isn't worth your time in daily games.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) is likely to be a bench player when he returns from the disabled list while dealing with a hip impingement, according to manager Bryan Price. It's unknown is Mesoraco will need surgery to fix his injury or if he'll be able to catch again.
Fantasy Tip: The bottom line is that 2015 will be a lost season for Mesoraco, and his owners who spent a high draft pick on him are really paying the price. At this point we hope you've moved on in shallow mixed formats. Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap), who is hitting .308 (32-for-104), will continue to start behind the dish. It's hard to argue with his price as a value play at FantasyScore when he faces certain right-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: Cozart ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has cooled off a bit of late, but he, along with most of the rest of Cincinnati's lineup, makes for a strong start against spot starter Rusin tonight at FantasyScore.
Tue, 26 May 2015 15:31:21 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rusin, making a spot start for injured starter Jorge De La Rosa (finger), should be avoided in all daily games today. A smart strategy, though, would be to stack hitters from the Reds lineup at FantasyScore.
