Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto induced ground balls at will Thursday, Feb. 27, according to manager Bryan Price. Price noted Cueto's control is the key to his elevation to being able to successfully produce ground-ball contact.
Fantasy Tip: Cueto had a 46.2 % ground-ball rate last season, which was slightly above the league average of 44.8%. His real value centered on his 242 strikeouts. Continue to view Cueto as a low-end No. 1 starter in fantasy leagues. However, an uptick in ground balls this season would only strengthen the likelihood of him repeating his career-best 2014 season.

Fantasy Tip: Bailey is expected to miss the first several weeks but should be ready for most of the regular season if he does not suffer any setbacks. Owners should consider selecting Bailey in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts if he does not have any problems during spring training.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (forearm) won't be ready for the start of the season after having surgery last September to fix a torn right flexor tendon. He hasn't had any setbacks this spring, but he's been limited to playing catch since reporting to camp. Bailey is set to throw off a mound for the first time Friday, Feb. 27. He's expected to return to the rotation in mid-April.
Fantasy Tip: Bailey will obviously come at an injury discount this year in the end of the middle rounds of drafts, since he's only expected to miss a month at the most. He posted an ERA of 3.71 and a WHIP of 1.23 in 23 starts in 2014.

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (forearm) may not be ready for the season opener, according to manager Bryan Price. "I don't if it's going to Opening Day," Price said. "But I don't imagine we're going to talking May either." Bailey hasn't had any setbacks and could throw a bullpen session soon.
Fantasy Tip: Bailey is likely a SP4 target in the middle or early late rounds in mixed league drafts.

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce (knee) said his knee is 100% healthy and is a non-issue this spring. Bruce had surgery on a torn meniscus in his knee last May and missed only two weeks after surgery, but he hit a career-low .217 and had a career-low 18 home runs in 2014. Bruce said he started training three weeks earlier this offseason to prepare for the 2015 season.
Fantasy Tip: Because of Bruce's disappointing, injury-riddled 2014 season, expect many fantasy baseball drafters to ignore him completely. We know the power is for real and was likely directly affected by his knee ailment. That presents you with an excellent buying opportunity in Bruce this season as a safe power source likely to rebound.

Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake said he is open to discussing a contract extension with the club, although they haven't approached him yet. "I'll be happy to stay in Cincinnati, but I'd also be happy to go to free agency," Leake said. "I'd like for them to show interest. They haven't yet. If they don't have interest, they don't have interest." He does not have a price range in mind for what it would take to sign him.
Fantasy Tip: Leake is expected to begin the season as Cincinnati's No. 3 starter and will be projected to go in the middle rounds of most fantasy leagues.

Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani has been labeled as an inside-track candidate for one of the open rotation spots by manager Bryan Price. The Reds acquired DeSclanfani in an offseason trade that saw veteran SP Mat Latos moved to the Miami Marlins. "We got him in that deal because we targeted him as a priority to fill this role," Price said. "That in large part is why I have him ranked so high on the list of starter options for us."
Fantasy Tip: DeSclafani could land in late-round-flier territory for NL-only and deep mixed leagues, if he lands in the starting rotation. Currently, he isn't worth a draft pick in the majority of formats. It is a situation worth monitoring leading into the season.

Fantasy Tip: It is unlikely the Reds will dish out the dough Cueto seeks, but it is also unlikely to have any impact on his fantasy stock. Cueto posted career-best numbers across the board last season, including a beastly 242 strikeouts. Slight regression isn't out of the question, but Cueto still projects as a No. 1 starter in mixed leagues and will likely fall outside the first 12 arms off the board on draft day.

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (forearm) said he's a bit behind schedule in his recovery from surgery to fix a torn flexor mass in his right forearm, but things are going well. "I haven't gotten off the mound," Bailey said. "Usually, l like to get off the mound a few times before I come. But I can catch back up real quick. It's more getting used to the throwing everyday stuff." Bailey has had no setbacks from his surgery.
Fantasy Tip: Bailey will come to drafters at an injury discount in the middle to late rounds of your fantasy baseball drafts this year. If Bailey escapes any setbacks this spring, he could return some real nice value to whoever takes the chance on him.
