"I'm going in with the mindset that I don't know what position I will be playing," said Frazier. "All offseason, I've been working on every position. You never know what position they will want you at. I've heard some things, but ultimately the goal is you have to hit the ball and try to work my way into a position."

Mark Sheldon, of MLB.com, reports Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce (wrist) has not been held back in his offseason workouts after injuring his wrist last season. Bruce elected not to play winter ball, but has resumed lifting weights, running, throwing and hitting. "It's felt fine and like (the injury) never happened," Bruce said. "I've had no pain; it's nonexistent. For a little bit, when I came back, it was still tight, but it's fine now." Bruce made adjustments after spending time on the disabled list in 2009; he stopped what he called a "double tap" with his swing and started picking up and putting down his front foot, which he says gives him more time to see the ball and make better decisions.

The Sporting News' Stan McNeal reports that Cincinnati Reds SP Aroldis Chapman has shown noticeable improvement with his curveball, after working with pitching coach Bryan Price on adjusting his grip. "Bryan said his breaking ball was a lot better than what he had seen on TV," manager Dusty Baker said. "His changeup was outstanding as well. He rarely threw it in international ball because he said a lot of guys sit on changeups and breaking balls. That's an adjustment he'll face here." Chapman will have opportunities to face major league hitters during spring training, but it is uncertain if he will begin the season with the parent club. Manager Dusty Baker said his performance in spring training will determine where he begins the season and added that the club will not rush him because of the amount of money he is making.

"We've entertained a few things, even the possibility of putting Alonso behind the plate," Baker said. "He's built more like a catcher than he is anything. Slider is very inconsistent, below-average in quality. Changeup is well below-average. Mechanically, he often opens up too quickly with his front leg which, in turn, forces him to get around his slider. He doesn't always find a consistent slot with his release point - high 3/4 to 3/4 - where he gets pretty good late movement. He doesn't have a great feel for pitching. He is an above-average athlete with the kind of body you like to see in a pitcher. Future as a reliever seems more likely. Has shown a tendency to sulk and quit when the pressure is on."
