Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain what kind of disciplinary action Votto will be facing, but he is likely to be fined and possibly suspended for making contact with an ump. That's generally a no-no. FantasyScore players will want to double-check to make sure Votto isn't suspended before plugging him into your lineup.

Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier went deep Tuesday, May 5, and he has hit seven home runs in his last 12 games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. His 15 career homers against the Bucs are his most against any team.
Fantasy Tip: It's hard not to want to choose Frazier ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) for your FantasyScore rosters while he's hitting homers frequently. However, he hasn't done much else when he's not leaving the yard, and Pirates starter Gerrit Cole, his Wednesday matchup, isn't allowing many hits at all this year. It might be the day to avoid Frazier.

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (wrist) remains out of the lineup Wednesday, May 6. SS Kris Negron is starting at shortstop again and hitting seventh in the batting order against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole.
Fantasy Tip: Negron ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is going up against one of baseball's most dominant pitchers this year in Cole, so he should be avoided in all daily games.

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart (wrist) is bothered by a sore left wrist that was hit by a pitch over the weekend, and his index finger is fine. "I thought it was good Sunday after the X-rays," Cozart said. "But when I woke up, it was tight. I don't think it's going to be a long-term thing. Once the inflammation gets out of there, I should fine."
Fantasy Tip: Cozart ($4,400, 8.8% of your cap) is a midrange shortstop on FantasyScore when he returns.

Updating an ongoing story, Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) could be reduced to pinch-hitting and serving as the designated hitter in the team's 10 interleague road games the rest of the season. Manager Bryan Price ruled out Mesoraco trying another position until he's able to catch. Mesoraco can run and hit, but internal rotation of his leg causes pain. "That's when it pinches, which is basically my catching position," Mesoraco said. "We're trying to eliminate as much pain and discomfort as we can."
Fantasy Tip: Mesy ($3,400, 6.8% of your cap) could be the DH this weekend against the Chicago White Sox, which will give his owners some reprieve. However, everything is sounding pretty grim as far as his prospects in the near term. Tucker Barnhart ($1,600, 3.2%) has jacked a couple homers but really isn't an option on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Normally Leake ($4,700; 9.4% of cap) would be a good play in FantasyScore, but he is up against Gerrit Cole ($8,700; 17.4% of cap) who won the National League Pitcher of the Month for April.
Tue, 05 May 2015 21:50:19 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Frazier ($5,500; 11.0% of cap) is a fantastic power source for FantasyScore players compared to others at the hot corner.
Tue, 05 May 2015 21:49:49 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($2,700; 5.4% of cap) hit just .163 in the month of April with 25 strikeouts and just 13 hits, but he has turned it around lately with back-to-back multi-hit performances.

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) is likely to require surgery on his hip that would need a four-month recovery. However, he's trying to do all possible treatments in the meantime.
Fantasy Tip: It's looking increasingly likely that Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) might not do his fantasy owners any good in 2015 at all. If you haven't already, you'll need to find a capable catching replacement for Mesoraco in standard leagues. Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a low-end catching matchup play at FantasyScore.

Cincinnati Reds C Devin Mesoraco (hip) has yet to test his injured hip by squatting, and he's still trying to avoid surgery, which would cost him four months of rehab. Mesoraco will see at-bats as the designated hitter when the team plays the Chicago White Sox.
Fantasy Tip: Mesoraco ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) last played Sunday, and it looks like he'll avoid the disabled list for now. But you should avoid him at FantasyScore for the foreseeable future or until he's back in the lineup on a regular basis and catching. Brayan Pena ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a low-cost consideration against right-handed pitchers in the meantime.
Tue, 05 May 2015 13:01:14 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Byrd ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is getting a slot higher in the lineup with Zack Cozart out due to an injured finger. He may be worth a pickup due to his lower cost and getting more at-bats in the game.
Tue, 05 May 2015 12:42:57 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Remove Cozart ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) from your lineup until he is 100 percent healthy. It may be just another game or two. Negron ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) may be a way to save a bit of money and spend it other places, and he might be a good low-cost alternative.
Tue, 05 May 2015 11:46:39 -0700
Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto is taking 58.8% of pitches thrown at him and seeing 4.24 pitches per plate appearance, but he's also swinging at more than 70% of pitches inside the strike zone in 2015 for the first time since his MVP season in 2010, per FanGraphs. He's hitting .385 with a 1.154 OPS when he swings at the first pitch, which he's doing 4.8% more often than he did in 2013.
Fantasy Tip: The most important thing for Votto ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) appears to be that he's fully healthy after seeing his power sapped due to injuries in the last couple of years. He looks primed for a rebound season, and you should feel very comfortable rolling with him at FantasyScore right now.
Mon, 04 May 2015 09:44:33 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has a 2.72 ERA and two wins in six starts this year despite allowing five earned runs in six innings to the Atlanta Braves yesterday. He'll continue to be a strong FantasyScore pitching option every five days
Sun, 03 May 2015 14:18:27 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Marquis ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) has a high 5.22 ERA but is 3-1 in four decisions with nine walks and 28 strikeouts. He is a decent low-cost option depending on the pitching matchup.
