Fantasy Tip: Through three starts with the Pale Hose, Shields was 0-2 with a 21.81 ERA. In seven starts since, he's 3-3 with a 2.11 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. The veteran's strikeouts are way down with the ChiSox (24 in 48 IP), but those ratios give Shields some appeal in AL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, July 26. He surrendered a run in the first, ending his string of consecutive scoreless innings at 19 1/3. Hendricks walked two and struck out seven in the loss.
Fantasy Tip: Not only was Hendricks' scoreless steak stopped at 19 1/3, his win streak ended at five as he lost for the first time since June 13. That being said, Hendricks still struck out seven and is one of the better fantasy pitchers out there. Make sure he's in your lineup next time he takes the bump.

Chicago Cubs OF Jorge Soler (hamstring) needs just nine or 10 additional at-bats for Class AAA Iowa before returning to the parent club according to manager Joe Maddon. Soler has been on the DL since June 7.
Fantasy Tip: Soler posted a soft .223-5-13 line in semi-regular playing time prior to getting hurt, and he'll be rejoining a crowded Cubs outfield whenever he returns. He should be stashed in NL-only leagues. Beyond that, you're just hoping he catches fire and writes his name into the lineup more often.

Fantasy Tip: The presence of a DH has thrown off the lineup a bit. Kris Bryant is the DH and Tommy LaStella is at third, for example. Montero is hitting .204-5-21 and doesn't carry much fantasy value in place of Contreras.

Fantasy Tip: What has happened to Arrieta? That is the major question that many fans would love to know. You're almost afraid to take him out of the lineup for fear the Arrieta of the first half will re-emerge and leave you hanging. But it's clear something isn't right. It's likely just a midseason slump, so let Arrieta work through it and then stick him back in your lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is at .285-9-33 with eight stolen bases, and he joins the litany of Cubs that are worth their weight in gold in daily and regular formats. He plays often enough to merit consideration in both.

Fantasy Tip: Lawrie hasn't played since last Thursday, so he could be a DL candidate if he needs to miss anymore time. Plan accordingly. Saladino doesn't move the fantasy needle much as a replacement and faces a very tough matchup in Arrieta Monday. Ignore him in all fantasy formats.

Fantasy Tip: Renaudo owns a 3.20 ERA through 13 starts with Class AAA Charlotte and is a former top prospect. He also had an underwhelming 6.1 K/9, though. He's a risky start given his track record in the league (6.33 ERA), and especially against an admirable opponent. Don't fret fading Renaudo in all fantasy formats Wednesday.

Chicago Cubs C/OF Willson Contreras is starting in left field and batting fifth, and INF Javier Baez is starting at second base and batting ninth against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Monday, July 25.
Fantasy Tip: With an option to utilize a designated hitter Monday, Chicago can plug both youngsters into the lineup. Contreras is a capable starting catcher in all formats given his .277/.372/.482 slash line, and Baez is a rising fantasy talent. The fielding wizard has also held his own at the dish with 29 runs, nine home runs, 33 RBI, eight stolen bases and a .285/.327/.452 slash line over 254 plate appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Russell exited the game with a minor heel injury Sunday, July 24, but it was never deemed a concern. Since he's right back in the lineup Monday, you can start him with confidence in all seasonal leagues. Russell is having a solid season with 39 runs, 11 home runs, 56 RBI and a .249/.338/.414 slash line, and he is a viable starter in the majority of formats.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler is going to be eased back into the lineup slightly, and he didn't start the game Sunday, July 24. He remains a must-start outfielder in all fantasy formats because of his five-category production atop the potent Chicago lineup.

The Chicago Cubs acquired RP Aroldis Chapman from the New York Yankees Monday, July 25, according to sources. The Cubs sent SS Gleyber Torres, OF Billy McKinney, RP Adam Warren and possibly another player. Torres is the centerpiece of the deal and was hitting .275 with nine home runs in 94 games for Class A Myrtle Beach.
Fantasy Tip: Chapman is an elite closer that just got even more attractive, as he'll now be closing games for one of the best clubs in all of baseball. Hector Rondon's value takes a big hit, as he's likely the setup man now to Chapman. In New York, Andrew Miller would see a sizeable boost if he's not traded, as he would likely take over closing duties for Chapman. If Miller also leaves town before the deadline, Dellin Betances figures to be next in line. Both relievers are already must-owns in all leagues for their stellar relief ratios.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber will likely lose catcher eligibility next season, and he'll be an upper-middle outfielder in fantasy. If he regains catcher eligibility next season, he would rise to the pinnacle of the position.

New York Yankees RP Aroldis Chapman is part of a proposed deal with the Chicago Cubs for SS Gleyber Torres, among others, according to sources. Torres was scratched from his game in the minors Sunday, July 24, and a deal is possible Monday, July 25.
Fantasy Tip: Chapman's K-rate is down a bit, but it's still great at 12.64 per nine innings. On the plus side, his control has been better with only eight walks in 31 1/3 innings, which has led to a miniscule 0.89 WHIP. A return to the National League would only benefit him more. It's hard to see him serving in a setup role, and Hector Rondon would lose a lot of fantasy luster. As for the Yankees, Dellin Betances has a leg up on Andrew Miller because Betances is right-handed. Both relievers remain attractive in all formats, but Betances could see a big boost.

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester allowed four runs on four hits while walking five and striking out seven over four innings in a no-decision against the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday, July 24, and he has 11 walks in his last three starts.
Fantasy Tip: Lester has now struggled in three of his last four starts. Stick with him in season-long formats, but he is too risky to use in daily games right now.
