Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) returned from a 27-game absence and went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI, two runs scored and a walk in a 5-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, July 22.
Fantasy Tip: Talk about shaking off the rust. Fowler picked up where he left off and looks safe to deploy going forward.

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) is back off the disabled list and is hitting leadoff against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Friday, July 22. As a result, 2B/OF Javier Baez will start on the bench.
Fantasy Tip: Fowler hasn't played in a major league game in over a month, so it's understandable to be hesitant to throw him back into starting lineups immediately. But keep in mind he's been great for fantasy owners with his .290/.398/.483 slash line, seven homers, 41 runs, 28 RBI and six steals. Baez will bounce around as a utility player, but solid playing time may be harder to come by now.

Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler (hamstring) is being activated from the disabled list Friday, July 22, according to a source. Fowler has been out of the lineup since he was injured June 18. RP Spencer Patton and OF Albert Almora will be sent to Class AAA Iowa.
Fantasy Tip: Fowler may be a little rusty with some time off, so it's understandable if you're hesitant to throw him back into seasonal lineups immediately. But he's been a boon to fantasy owners with his .290/.398/.483 slash line and seven home runs, 41 runs, 28 RBI and six steals. Almora is a promising youngster who was the casualty of a stacked roster. He showed well, hitting .265 with two homers and nine RBI but has an uphill battle to climb for playing time moving forward. He should be kept in most dynasty leagues, however.

Chicago Cubs RP Mike Montgomery will pitch out of the bullpen for the Cubs. He's holding left-handed hitters to a .164 average this year and has a nice 2.34 ERA in 32 games (30 relief outings for the Seattle Mariners). Montgomery is a former first-round pick of the Kansas City Royals, and manager Joe Maddon described him as a "big left-hander with a very good arm."
Fantasy Tip: The Cubs have been lacking a solid lefty reliever in their bullpen this year, so Montgomery is a nice fit. He had a nice run in Seattle's rotation last year, but he's unlikely to make an impact there with the Cubs. For that reason his fantasy value is very limited aside from the deepest of leagues for his nice ratios.

The Chicago Cubs are looking at Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick, according to sources. He is starting to hit again after missing almost six weeks with a fractured thumb. Cubs executive Theo Epstein drafted Reddick with the Boston Red Sox.
Fantasy Tip: Reddick has a healthy .301/.380/.445 slash line with six home runs and 23 RBI for the A's, and his fantasy stock would surely rise if he were to join the NL's most potent offense. That could mean bad news for Jason Heyward, though.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo is batting .328 with five home runs and 13 RBI through 64 at-bats this month and is tied for the National League lead in runs batted in. He is a must-start option in all fantasy formats.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 18:12:54 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hendricks has allowed just one unearned run through 19 2/3 innings during the month of July, with five walks and 13 strikeouts. His next scheduled start will come against the Chicago White Sox Tuesday, July 26, and he makes a viable pitching option in all formats.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 18:11:31 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Fowler's rehab assignment is expected to be brief and he should remain stashed in all fantasy formats because of his ability to contribute in all major statistical categories. OF Albert Almora is likely to be optioned to the minors when Fowler is activated from the disabled list and C/OF Wilson Contreras and INF/OF Javier Baez could see a reduction in playing time.

New York Mets SS Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. INF Wilmer Flores draws into the starting lineup at third base and is batting third against Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is having a respectable season with 39 runs, 13 home runs, 31 RBI and a .266/.321/.432 slash line and should be viewed as a low-end starter in deep mixed and NL-only leagues. Flores is hitting when receiving the chance and owns a .290/.344/.510 slash line with 19 runs, eight home runs and 24 RBI since the calendar flipped to May. He's worth owning in deeper settings to plug in when he's in the lineup. Flores is also a viable flier in daily contests Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Walker is mired in a 4-for-34 funk with a .431 OPS over his past 10 games, and after hitting nine home runs in April, he's hit just seven since. View Walker as a fringe starter at the keystone in the majority of seasonal leagues. Johnson isn't receiving enough playing time to be anything more than a desperation own in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. He's not a priority in daily contests Wednesday, too.
Wed, 20 Jul 2016 08:48:17 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Sub out Cespedes where you can in seasonal leagues. Despite battling nagging injuries for most of the season, he's remained a high-end outfielder with 47 runs, 21 home runs, 52 RBI and a .295/.367/.567 slash line. Lagares is a potential low-priced flier for daily contests Wednesday, but he's nothing more than a depth option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Chicago Cubs SP Kyle Hendricks owns a 1.50 ERA through 10 appearances at Wrigley Field this season, which is the second-lowest home ERA in the league. Hendricks is starting against the New York Mets Wednesday, July 20.
Fantasy Tip: Aside from legging a touch behind in the strikeout department (7.7 K/9), Hendricks has been a true breakout contributor for fantasy owners this season with eight wins, a 2.41 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. And it isn't like 89 strikeouts through 104 2/3 innings is anything to shake a stick at. Unless things change drastically, Hendricks is on his way to finishing as a No. 2 fantasy starter. He's worth a look in daily contests against the Mets Wednesday, too.

Fantasy Tip: It was an ugly game for Rizzo, but he remains a must-start in all fantasy leagues due to his strong average and power numbers.
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 19:39:19 -0700
Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta allowed one earned run, five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts over seven innings in a quality start and no-decision Tuesday, July 19, against the New York Mets. He threw 63 of his 85 pitches for strikes.
Fantasy Tip: Arrieta is winless in three July starts, but this was his first quality start and the All-Star break appears to have given him the shot in the arm he needed to get back on track. Regardless of the rough patch, he remains an obvious must-start fantasy option across all formats and DFS play.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo is an elite fantasy contributor and sits with 56 runs, 22 home runs, 68 RBI and a .293/.406/.586 slash line. After stealing 17 bases in 2015, he has just two this season, though. Still, it's tough to complain given Rizzo's improvements across the other four categories.
