Chicago Cubs news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Lester ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) hasn't been as dominant as expected in his first year in Chicago, and although he shut down the Mets, he is by no means a safe bet at FantasyScore in his next scheduled start against a St. Louis Cardinals team with a much better offense.

Fantasy Tip: Although Chicago has been using a committee to close games, don't read too much into Grimm's performance Wednesday. The game went 11 innings, and it is unlikely Grimm will see many save chances under normal situations.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) hit .317 (26-for-82) with one home run and six RBI in the month of June. He's an under-the-radar play tonight on FantasyScore in a run-producing spot in the lineup against the struggling Colon. There is value to be had here.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Montero ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in all formats Wednesday. He is currently reeling at the dish with a .189/.250/.189 slash line over his past 12 games. Ross ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has .585 OPS this season, and FantasyScore players should aim higher Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Herrera ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore players. Russell ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has a .231/.310/.354 slash line over his past 38 games, and he is best replaced in the majority of seasonal formats at this point. There is plenty of upside for Russell, and he doesn't look lost at the highest level, especially in the field. Still, until he strings together a solid run at the plate, he is a low-end fantasy option.

Fantasy Tip: Hendricks ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) has been inconsistent this season, but when he is on, he returns high-end numbers. Continue to view him as a high-risk, high-reward option for FantasyScore contests until he strings together a few strong outings in a row. Seasonal owners shouldn't be afraid to bench him against tough opponents, either. Although, Hendricks shouldn't be reserved for deep mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) looks to be getting a night off following several games in a row in the outfield. Coghlan's usual platoon partner, Chris Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap), is in right on Tuesday and is worth the pickup with a .340 road average and a .353 mark against lefties. Szczur ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) isn't hitting well but he has a 1-for-3 mark against Mets SP Jon Niese, so he might be a wild card here.
Tue, 30 Jun 2015 08:05:19 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Soler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) will be a low-end outfielder to consider on FantasyScore upon returning.
Mon, 29 Jun 2015 00:28:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Wada ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) had inflammation but apparently no structural damage, so he should be back shortly. In the meantime, disable Wada from your roster and seek help elsewhere for a replacement.
Sun, 28 Jun 2015 14:20:28 -0700
Fantasy Tip: The presence of Carlos Martinez may be keeping Baxter ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) out of the starting lineup. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is 3-for-3 against Martinez lifetime, with two RBIs. Start Denorfia if you need an outfielder.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo was hit on the right forearm by a pitch Friday, and has it wrapped up. It's something to watch and could require a day off in the near future to rest.
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 15:54:18 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Mike Baxter's ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) run in right field is just about over. Soler will be a low-end option on FantasyScore upon returning.

Fantasy Tip: Give Roach a start or two to see what he has in the show before using him on FantasyScore.
Fri, 26 Jun 2015 16:21:39 -0700
Fantasy Tip: With Wada out tomorrow, Donn Roach will come up from the minors to make the start against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was sporting a 2.29 ERA in 14 starts for Class AAA Iowa this year, but he struck out only 3.6 hitters per nine. Roach is definitely one to avoid tomorrow against the Red Birds on FantasyScore.
Fri, 26 Jun 2015 16:10:43 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) does have all five of his home runs in 241 at-bats against right-handed pitchers this year. He's hitting .261 (74-for-283) with 35 RBI and four stolen bases in 2015. Castro is a midrange shortstop play in daily games.
