Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning Monday, July 6, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He ended up allowing two unearned runs and two hits with two walks over seven innings in a hard-luck loss. He also struck out eight batters.
Fantasy Tip: The biggest news was Lester's first career hit, snapping a 0-for-66 lifetime mark. Lester ($7,500; or 15.0% of cap) has been pitching better lately, and remains a solid FantasyScore play despite a lack of run support.

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Howie Kendrick is expected to be pursued by the Chicago Cubs in the offseason, according to sources. Cubs manager Joe Maddon was a bench coach with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim when Kendrick was a minor leaguer in the organization.
Fantasy Tip: Kendrick still has a little left in the tank. At $4,200 (or 8.4% of cap) right now, Kendrick is a decent mid-level value in FantasyScore.

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs OF Dexter Fowler will bat leadoff Tuesday, July 7, against left-handed St. Louis Cardinals SPs Tyler Lyons and Tim Cooney, according to manager Joe Maddon. Maddon noted Fowler was not leading off Monday, July 6 to, "just take some heat off him and work on what he needs to work on."
Fantasy Tip: Currently riding a 8-for-51 slump, Fowler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been struggling. There is a chance he will flip flop up and down the lineup over the next few weeks, but all that really changes is he'll trade runs scored upside for RBI opportunities.

Fantasy Tip: Soriano is a desperation saves stash in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Though, of late, the Cubs bullpen has been lights out, and there is no guarantee Soriano will even receive a sniff at saves. Jason Motte looks the part with a 0.53 ERA and 13 strikeouts with just 11 base runners allowed through 17 innings over his past 20 appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Arrieta ($9,100, 18.2% of cap) has found his groove with a 0.75 ERA and 21 strikeouts through 24 innings over his past three starts. During the run, he has held opposing hitters to a .408 OPS and he is a top-tier FantasyScore option Tuesday. Beeler is nothing more than a high-risk flier, and FantasyScore players, along with seasonal owners, should likely aim higher.

Fantasy Tip: This is the third consecutive game Pham ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has hit first, and the move has Kolten Wong ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) batting sixth in the order. It splits up the Cardinals left-handed hitters, and it helps Wong's RBI upside. Wong is a little pricey without the handedness advantage for FantasyScore contests Monday, but Pham is cheap and stands as a flier. Pham also has fleeting value in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is mired in an 8-for-51 slump, so a move down the order might help him restart his punch at the dish. It'll also help his RBI opportunities, which could be a nice boost for his seasonal owners. Until he heats up, FantasyScore players should likely fade Fowler.
Mon, 06 Jul 2015 13:24:54 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) is 8-for-14 against Lackey in his career, and he has been swinging a hot bat (.317/.444/.436 line over his past 124 plate appearances). His fantasy value skyrockets hitting in front of the Anthony Rizzo ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) and Kris Bryant ($5,700, 11.4% of cap), and if Coghlan sticks, he is a must-own outfielder in the majority of seasonal leagues. Strongly consider Coghlan for FantasyScore contests Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Fowler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is unusable on FantasyScore right now.

Fantasy Tip: Soler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) returns after spending over a month on the disabled list with an ankle injury. Owners may want to wait a game or two before considering Soler a starting option on FantasyScore.
Sun, 05 Jul 2015 10:58:13 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Rizzo ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Baxter ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting .265 in limited time this season, but owners on FantasyScore may want to look for better options to use.
Sun, 05 Jul 2015 09:34:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Soler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) should return to his starting job in right field after being activated from the 15-day disabled list. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see how he plays in a game or two before considering him a starting option.
Sat, 04 Jul 2015 17:10:29 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Bryant ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has been experiencing a slight power outage, but he is on his way to a monster night. Hot and cold spells are to be expected from any rookie, but Bryant can take a FantasyScore lineup to another level if you catch him on the right night.
Sat, 04 Jul 2015 14:09:55 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Soler ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) hit four home runs in 208 plate appearances before landing on the DL. Soler was striking out at a 32.2% clip, negating the positives from his .383 BABIP. Soler should be given some time to catch back up to major league pitching before FantasyScore owners invest.

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is back in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart Saturday, July 4, batting fifth. INF Addison Russell, who started at shortstop Friday, July 3, will play second base and bat ninth.
Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) received a scheduled day off Friday. He is 6-for-21 over the past week and is hitting .273 against the Fish this year.
