Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester allowed three runs on five hits over 7 1/3 scoreless innings in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 of the National League Division Series Friday, Oct. 9. He walked one and struck out nine.
Fantasy Tip: With Friday's loss, Lester ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) fell to 1-4 in six starts versus the Cards this year, including his outings during the regular season. However, he has a respectable 2.79 ERA against St. Louis and has struck out 43 batters over 38 2/3 innings, so FantasyScore owners should not be afraid to use him.

Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester owns a career 2.57 ERA in the playoffs in 13 starts and 15 outings compared to a 3.55 ERA in all other games. He faces the St. Louis Cardinals, who owned the third-lowest OPS (.662) in the league this year against left-handers. However, Lester was 1-3 with a no-decision against them this year despite a 2.59 ERA and 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings in five starts. The Cardinals stole 12% of their total bases against Lester this year.
Fantasy Tip: The Cardinals have gotten to know Lester ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) well this year. His struggles to hold runners on are well-documented, and a scrappy team like St. Louis is well-equipped to take advantage of it. Lester is a primetime risk/reward pick on FantasyScore.

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of the division series against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, Oct. 9. C David Ross is behind the plate and is batting eighth against Cardinals SP John Lackey.
Fantasy Tip: Ross ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has become Jon Lester's personal catcher. He's a defensive-minded player that should be ignored on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) qualifies as a sleeper outfielder on FantasyScore in the division round. He has eight career hits in 17 at-bats (.471) with two RBI off Lackey, too.

The Chicago Cubs signed Cuban OF prospect Eddy Julio Martinez Friday, Oct. 9, according to a source close to Martinez. Martinez, who is 20 years old, will receive a $3 million signing bonus pending a physical. He'll receive a standard minor league contract. Martinez is considered one of the top international prospects.
Fantasy Tip: Martinez won't be in the big leagues right away but should be monitored by those in fantasy leagues for the next couple of seasons, especially keeper and dynasty league owners.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel could start Game 4 of the National League Division Series against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, Oct. 13, if he is not used out of the bullpen earlier in the series, according to manager Joe Maddon.
Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($7,400, 14.8% of cap) struggled down the stretch, posting a 6.46 ERA over five September starts before tossing five scoreless innings against Cincinnati Oct. 1, so he should not be trusted in FantasyScore.
Thu, 08 Oct 2015 17:05:53 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) has allowed just four earned runs over 12 appearances since Aug. 1 and is pitching better than anyone competing in the postseason. He is a must-start in FantasyScore every time he takes the mound.
Thu, 08 Oct 2015 17:04:25 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hendricks ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) struggled in his only outing against the Cards this year, giving up four runs on six hits over five innings in a no-decision May 5. However, he struck out 17 batters over 12 scoreless innings in his two most recent starts, making him worthy of consideration for FantasyScore lineups Saturday.
Thu, 08 Oct 2015 08:59:11 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Lester ($8,000, 16.0% of cap) remains a fantasy ace, and he struck out 9.1 hitters per nine innings this season. Holding runners on was his biggest issue this year, and the Cardinals will likely look to take advantage if they get their speedsters on base. Lester had a 2.59 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings against St. Louis over five starts this year. He's certainly an option for your top pitching spot.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) is a solid source of power for FantasyScore players heading into the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Wed, 07 Oct 2015 22:29:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Fowler ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) flexed a little muscle and he is a solid FantasyScore option heading into the NLDS against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta allowed just four hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts in a complete game shutout against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the wild-card game in the National League.
Fantasy Tip: Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap), who was 3-1 with a 0.75 ERA against the Bucs in the regular season, might be pitching better than anyone left in the postseason and he is a must-start in FantasyScore whenever he is on the mound. He might be this season's MadBum.
Wed, 07 Oct 2015 16:31:04 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Arrieta ($8,700, 17.4% of cap) is pitching at an elite level, and he is a high-end FantasyScore play whenever he takes the hill. He also owns a 0.75 ERA with 33 strikeouts through 36 innings over five starts against the Pirates this season.
Wed, 07 Oct 2015 12:14:20 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Castro ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) isn't a bad FantasyScore choice at all in the wild-card round at second because of how hot his bat has been to end the season. He also has six hits in 17 at-bats (.353) with four RBI in his career against Wednesday's starter, Gerrit Cole.
Wed, 07 Oct 2015 12:09:15 -0700
Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo, who finished the year with 31 home runs, 101 RBI and an .899 OPS, is 6-for-17 in his career against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Gerrit Cole, who he'll face in the wild-card game Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Fantasy Tip: Rizzo ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is easily the best at his position for the wild-card round, but you'll have to get creative filling out the rest of your lineup if you select him as one of your studs.
