Fantasy Tip: Lester ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) will his next scheduled start over the weekend, unless manager Joe Maddon decides to move things around. Monday's postponement shows exactly why you must always double-check the weather report before finalizing your FantasyScore lineups.

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list at some point during the team's series against the San Francisco Giants this weekend, according to manager Joe Maddon.
Fantasy Tip: Montero ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has not played since July 12 because of the injury, and it is not known how he will be used when he returns. Owners on FantasyScore may want to wait a game or two before using him to see where he will be used in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) probably will return to the lineup in the next game or two. Ross ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is hitting only .184 this season and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) left the team's last game because of a head injury but is available to play Monday. He has three hits in his last nine games but has picked up six RBI during that span. Owners on FantasyScore could consider using him in their lineups, but he is not a must-start player.

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Monday, Aug. 3. OF Chris Denorfia will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) usually sits out against left-handed pitchers. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has only two hits in his last eight games, and owners should be able to find better options to use on FantasyScore.

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant (head) left in the fifth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers after experiencing dizziness following a collision at second base. He passed concussion protocol and is considered day-to-day.
Fantasy Tip: Although it looks like Bryant ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) avoided a concussion, don't expect the Cubs to take any chances with their talented rookie. Make sure to check on his status over the next few days before using him at FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Hector Rondon is the primary closer, but he was likely unavailable after pitching the previous three days. Jason Motte then faltered in the ninth, opening the door for Hunter. Keep an eye on the situation, but there is a chance Hunter could earn some save chances on days Rondon can't pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) started slow after the All-Star break, but he has nine RBI and five runs scored during his homer streak. Until he cools off, keep paying for him at FantasyScore.

Chicago Cubs RP Hector Rondon allowed one hit and struck out one batter without allowing a run in the ninth inning of the Cubs' 4-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers to earn his 15th save of the season Friday, July 31.
Fantasy Tip: Rondon has now converted the save in each of the Cubs last three games, and it appears he is back in the closer role. Over his past 29 appearances and 28 innings, Rondon has a 0.32 ERA with 24 strikeouts, and it was a bit surprising he lost closing duties to begin with. He isn't the most secure closer in the league, but he pitches for a team that'll provide plenty of opportunities. Rondon should be owned in all fantasy formats.

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel picked up his seventh straight win over the Milwaukee Brewers with a 4-1 win Friday, July 31. It was Hammel's first victory in two months. He allowed a run on six hits over 5 2-3 innings to beat the Brewers for the second time this season and improve to 6-5 overall.
Fantasy Tip: Hammel ($8,500, 17.0% of cap) improved to 7-0 in nine starts against Milwaukee and picked up his first victory since June 6. You won't get starts like this very often from Hammel, but he has a 5-3 record and 3.17 ERA away from Wrigley Field.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) posted a 3.42 ERA over 129 innings with a 6.1 K/9 for Miami this season. So while his lack of strikeouts limit his upside, Haren has kept hitters in check with veteran savvy and stands as a serviceable No. 2 starter for FantasyScore players in favorable matchups. The Pirates don't exactly qualify, though.

Fantasy Tip: This would be a shocking move, as Wood just landed with Los Angeles Thursday, July 30. Continue to check back for updates, but regardless of whether Wood stays with the Dodgers or is dealt to the Cubs, it should be viewed as an upgrade on starting for the Braves.

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco is drawing interest from the Chicago Cubs as they look to upgrade their starting pitching at the trade deadline. Carrasco has 140 strikeouts in 127 1/3 innings this year and is living up to his prospect hype. He's also signed through 2018 with two team options for 2019 and 2020, which makes him more attractive.
Fantasy Tip: Now that the Cubs have traded for Dan Haren, it seems unlikely that they'd also go after Carrasco ($7,200, 14.4% of cap), who is coveted by other teams, too. Carrasco could see his fantasy value boosted if he is traded to a contender. Stay tuned.

Fantasy Tip: Haren ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) should slide into Chicago's rotation as the No. 5 starter after this move. The veteran righty isn't striking out many batters (6.1 K/9), but he was serviceable for the Fish with a 3.42 ERA in 21 starts (129 innings), and he can be a dependable matchup play on FantasyScore at a cheap price, especially now that he'll have a better offense backing him.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 17:18:15 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Ross ($7,700, 15.4% of cap) would be leaving a very pitching-friendly environment at Petco Park for the friendly confines of Wrigley. A potential move to Chicago could be seen to slightly negatively affect his fantasy value, but he'd also be pitching for a better offensive squad.
