According to The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Orioles international scouting director John Stockstill met Friday, Oct. 30, with free-agent Cuban P Aroldis Chapman and his agent, Edwin Mejia, in New York. Stockstill, who watched the highly coveted 21-year-old pitch in the World Baseball Classic in March, said he was impressed by Chapman. Although the Orioles maintain interest, it's highly doubtful they will be serious bidders if Chapman's reported asking price - between $40 million and $60 million in a long-term deal - is accurate.

The Baltimore Sun reports Baltimore Orioles SP Mark Hendrickson, who can be a free agent following the season, has indicated he'd like to stay in Baltimore, and his agent, Joe Urbon, would like to start negotiations on a new contract. "There have been indications and a vibe that there is an interest in the Orioles in having him back, and Mark has made it clear that he has an interest in staying. It has to work on both sides. That includes fit and role and economics. I don't see any reason that all three things can't be accomplished," Urbon said.

Baseball operations president Andy MacPhail said Moeller's removal was more of a 40-man roster decision. "I was disappointed," Moeller said, "but (MacPhail) has to do what he thinks is best for the organization. I understand that. I'm going to look to see what options are available, and if there is nothing better as far as a guaranteed major league job, I'll probably be back."

He also may want a candidate with catching experience. "We'll take our time, compile a list of potential candidates for the bench coach position," Trembley said. "And as the offseason progresses, we'll make a decision." Since the Orioles don't have a catching coordinator, it is possible the new bench coach could have a background in catching in order to work with highly-touted C Matt Wieters.

They'll pay incremental raises to many of their youngsters and will face arbitration hikes with several more. But the payroll will start significantly below what it was in 2009, meaning there should be money to tap this winter.
