Atlanta Braves news, rumors and injuries

Atlanta Braves SP Bud Norris could be bumped from the starting rotation soon, and SP Mike Foltynewicz looks like he could be the favorite to take Norris' spot. Foltynewicz could start in Norris' spot against the New York Mets Monday, May 2. Foltynewicz was scratched from his start at Class AAA Gwinnett Friday, April 29. Norris has an 8.74 ERA in his first five starts.
Fantasy Tip: Norris has zero fantasy upside at this point and should be left to the waiver wire. Folty appears to be past his blood clot issues and had 20 K's in 22 innings for Gwinnett. However, but he also has at least four walks in three of his four outings in the minors. He has raw strikeout stuff but allows a lot of fly balls. Take a wait-and-see approach. Only add him in NL-only leagues for now if he gets the opportunity.

Fantasy Tip: Inciarte should've been stashed everywhere, so get ready to return him to all lineups when he's ready. His return is bad news for the youngster Mallex Smith, who may be returned to the minors. Smith has really only been useful in deeper leagues for his speed, as he's hit just .188 (9-for-48) with two stolen bases.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis makes a lot of contact and gets on base often, but he has no home runs despite 19 RBI on the season. He's an acceptable player to roster in deep mixed leagues to buoy your average, but he won't help all that much in the counting stats.

Fantasy Tip: It's worth noting that it's against lefty Jon Lester, but Stubbs has now started three of the last four games. Stubbs is 0-for-8 lifetime against Lester and doesn't make a great DFS flyer. He does have four steals on the year, and he's worth owning in NL-only leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman has been out of the third spot since Sunday, but he has turned it on this week. He has a .393-1-2 line over the last seven days. He's facing lefty Jon Lester today, which cools his value a bit, but he's still a midrange option today.

Fantasy Tip: Castro has never put up robust numbers in the minors, and the team isn't ready to move Erick Aybar off of shortstop. He could be in danger of being sent down if he continues his tailspin. He's an NL-only option right now.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis leads the National League in doubles (10) and is batting .305 through his first 22 games of the season, although he is still looking for his first home run of the year. He could be useful to owners in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues who want to improve their batting average.

Fantasy Tip: Chacin is a decent option for owners in NL-only fantasy leagues and is worth considering as a value play for daily contests, with 23 strikeouts through 22 innings over his first four starts. He is scheduled to make his next start against the New York Mets Tuesday, May 3.
Wed, 27 Apr 2016 21:34:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Chacin has emerged as a solid NL-only fantasy league option, but mixed leaguers still need to see a little bit more before taking a chance on him. Chacin has also served as a nice DFS value to this point.

Fantasy Tip: It was Freeman's first homer since opening day. This is more what fantasy owners expected to see from Freeman. His batting average is up to .219, which isn't great, but he is slowly starting to round into form. Be patient.

Atlanta Braves 3B Adonis Garcia will serve as the designated hitter against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Wednesday, April 27. SS Daniel Castro will start at third base, while 2B Kelly Johnson will start at second base and is batting seventh in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has recorded three hits in his last six games and is hitting .179 this season. Owners should be able to find better players for their lineups and can avoid Johnson.

Atlanta Braves OF Jeff Francoeur and OF Drew Stubbs are in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Wednesday, April 27. Francoeur will start in left field and is batting fifth, while Stubbs will start in center field and is batting ninth.
Fantasy Tip: Francoeur has picked up at least one hit in five of his last six games with two RBI during that span. Stubbs has recorded five hits in his last 11 games but did go 2-for-3 in his last game. Francoeur likely is more valuable than Stubbs in most leagues and could be a desperation option for owners in daily fantasy leagues. Owners should avoid Stubbs in most leagues.

Atlanta Braves SS Erick Aybar, who is hitting only .134 on the year and .043 (1-for-23) against lefties, will likely move to second base for some games in the near future. Manager Fredi Gonzalez wants to give SS Daniel Castro some time at shortstop. Aybar started 35 games at second in 2007 as a rookie, but he played only two innings there in 2008 and hasn't played there since.
Fantasy Tip: Aybar is a slap hitter that never has had much offensive prowess, so his fantasy value should've already been limited to NL-only leagues. Castro is a defensive specialist, too, so his ownership should be limited to the same formats for now.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman had been hitting third, but in the past week he had a .241 average and only one run batted in. Adonis Garcia is hitting .360 and has moved up to the third spot. Freeman is slowly getting untracked and should start hitting soon. He had a .276-18-66 line last season. For now, be wary of Freeman in your fantasy lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran slipped to 0-3 on the season, but he is still not a terrible fantasy option, especially at home. He is 0-2 with a 3.63 ERA with two quality starts in four home outings. Just beware if you use him in fantasy leagues and DFS that he doesn't get a ton of run support. In five starts the Braves have provided a total of 10 runs, all losses.
