Atlanta Braves news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Buchanan ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) could grab the vacated rotation spot left by Cole Hamels ($8,900, 17.6% of cap), and he could be worth grabbing in NL-only formats. Buchanan's upside is limited, though. FantasyScore players should likely pass Friday, and at best, Buchanan should be viewed as a desperation flier.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) could be a potential AL-only option if he is dealt to an American League team, but he will enter a platoon, at best. He has a career .275/.378/.480 slash line against lefties, which is why he is a potential trade candidate. He is unlikely to see regular at-bats. You'll want to keep an eye on Gomes for FantasyScore purposes, though.

Fantasy Tip: So it looks like Teheran ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) will remain with Atlanta at the deadline. He's been pretty inconsistent this year with a 4.71 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 1.3 home runs allowed per nine innings. Teheran is strictly a matchup play against weaker offensive teams and preferably while pitching at home.

Fantasy Tip: Vizcaino should be acquired immediately in all standard fantasy leagues. He has yielded one run and six hits in nine innings pitched since joining the Braves' bullpen on July 6. Vizcaino, 24, has 8 K's in this time.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has looked solid this season and boasts a 2.88 ERA through 50 innings and 11 appearances, eight of which were starts. However, he also owns an underwhelming 6.8 K/9, 4.33 FIP and 1.36 WHIP. Plus, he is coming off a foot injury. Consider those negatives before loading him into any fantasy lineups against the lowly Phillies, especially at FantasyScore.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:40:12 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is 9-for-41 in July with a .506 OPS, which is his lowest mark of any month this season. Harang ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) presents a potentially favorable pitching matchup, but FantasyScore players should likely aim higher than Johnson Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.
Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a high-end talent who was close to joining the Dodgers at various points this season but hamstring and elbow injuries have limited his progress. He is a 30-year-old Cuban who posted a .348/.392/.493 slash line over three stops in the minor leagues this season. There is a legitimate chance he plays with the Braves this season, and he is worth a flier addition in the majority of deep formats. With Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Johnson gone, there is an opening in the starting rotation and closing duties are up for grabs. Look for Mike Foltynewicz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) to stick in the rotation, but the closer role is a true guessing game. A speculative stab for David Carpenter, Cody Martin or David Aardsma could reward, but don't drop anyone of significance until the water is less murky.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 11:19:10 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Miller ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) is an excellent play on FantasyScore tonight. Although the Phillies have been hot since the All-Star break, this matchup present Miller with a good chance of earning that W while facing off against Aaron Harang.
Thu, 30 Jul 2015 05:29:33 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a dynasty league commodity and could be worth the NL-only add for when rosters expand Sept. 1.

Miami Marlins OF Michael Morse could be on his way to the Atlanta Braves as part of a three-way trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to sources. The Braves would be parting with SP Alex Wood and RP Jim Johnson, while they also would receive a compensation pick.
Fantasy Tip: Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has done next to nothing this season in Miami, hitting a paltry .214 in 159 at-bats with four doubles, four homer and 12 RBIs while striking out 54 times. Perhaps a change of scenery would do him some good, but FantasyScore players should bother with him right now.
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 13:43:32 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Banuelos (($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has flashed nice upside in over his five appearances -- four starts -- this season. He is a stash candidate in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, but seasonal owners shouldn't bank on any fantasy production from him in 2015.
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 13:11:41 -0700
Atlanta Braves 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, July 29. 2B Daniel Castro is starting at third base and batting ninth against Orioles SP Chris Tillman Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has only started one of the past four games, and he could be on the outside of playing time looking in going forward, especially if the Braves decide to take a long look at what they've got in the their stable. FantasyScore players should view Castro ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief Wednesday.
Wed, 29 Jul 2015 13:05:40 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Garcia ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has gone 5-for-17 over six games in the majors this season with three runs, two home runs and two RBI. His price and spot in the lineup makes him worthy of considering as a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests Wednesday. NL-only players looking for a boost should snap him up quickly, too. There could be more than just fleeting value from the minor league veteran.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 20:12:20 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Teheran ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) continues to struggle on the road. He is 1-5 with a 7.24 ERA in 11 road starts and 5-1 with 2.37 ERA in 10 home outings. The opposition is hitting over .300 against him on the road, and just .201 at home. In other words, only pay him mind in FantasyScore when he is at Turner Field.
Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:52:06 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Banuelos ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has pitched in five games for the Braves this season but could sit out because of his elbow injury. Owners should avoid Banuelos until more is known about his status.
