Atlanta Braves news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) probably is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Gomes ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) has only one hit in his last eight games and is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore.
Sun, 28 Jun 2015 07:58:46 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Uribe ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) should return to the lineup in the near future. Ciriaco ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has done very well in his limited playing time this month with a .458 batting average and six RBI. Owners on FantasyScore could consider Ciriaco if they want to save money but there may be better options available.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has at least one hit in three of his last five games but is hitting only .171 this month. Owners on FantasyScore should be able to find better options to use at the position.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has struggled with consistency all year, and he has been brutal on the road. He is a risky play at FantasyScore in general, and he shouldn't even be considered away from Turner Field.
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 16:23:34 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Peterson ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) broke out of a 1-for-21 slump with a couple knocks Saturday. He's a solid midrange option on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Manny Banuelos is a candidate to come up with a 6-2 record, a 2.03 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP in 14 starts at Triple-A. He would be an NL-only grab and a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Fantasy Tip: Terdoslavich ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 3-for-13 this season but is not a great starting option this afternoon in FantasyScore.
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 12:56:41 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is hitting .292 this month and is 2-for-5 in his career against Morton, making him worthy of consideration as a low-end outfield option.
Sat, 27 Jun 2015 12:52:44 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has had a productive June, batting .337 with one home run and 14 RBIs and is available for a relative bargain in FantasyScore. He is 2-for-3 in his career against Morton.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is batting .294 over the past week and has one hit in three career at-bats against Morton. He's worthy of consideration as a low-end catching option in FantasyScore.

Atlanta Braves C A.J. Pierzynski is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 26. C Ryan Lavarnway is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Friday.
Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is bouncing back slightly after a disastrous May. Still, his seasonal value is tied to being a low-end option in two-catcher, cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Lavarnway ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a career .192 hitter through 312 at-bats, so FantasyScore players can fade him without concern.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Johnson's ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) only saving grace in fantasy is his work against southpaws. Through 28 plate appearances, he has a 1.021 OPS. Just note, it is a small sample size, and he is also currently riding a 4-for-26 slide at the plate. FantasyScore players should likely aim higher Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is likely just receiving a night off, as he has been one of the more pleasant surprises in fantasy baseball this season. At first glance, Perez ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) should likely be avoided at FantasyScore, and at best, viewed as a desperation source of cap relief. He did hit .296 and steal 28 bases through 60 games with Class AAA Gwinnett this season, though, so there is upside.

Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his wrist this week, and the Braves are hoping it will allow him to return sooner rather than later. Freeman is dealing with a right wrist contusion, but it seems unlikely that he'll be able to come off the disabled list when he's eligible July 3. The Braves need Freeman back, but they won't rush him back and jeopardize his long-term health. He was hitting .299 with 12 home runs and an .887 OPS when he was put on the DL.
Fantasy Tip: Stash Freeman everywhere in a DL spot until he returns. In the meantime, the Braves could use a combination of Chris Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) and Joey Terdoslavich at first base. Neither should garner much fantasy interest, but Johnson is the more experienced and more valuable commodity. Without Freeman in the lineup, Atlanta has become a pushover offensively. You should consider frequently streaming opposing pitchers against them on FantasyScore or in traditional leagues.

The Atlanta Braves had just 13 runs and one home run in six games heading into the game Thursday, June 25, since 1B Freddie Freeman (wrist) hurt his right wrist. They are averaging fewer than 2.2 runs in a 3-3 stretch over that time. Freeman landed on the disabled list this week.
Fantasy Tip: The Braves' patchwork offense these days looks pretty ugly, and opposing pitchers are good stream options in traditional leagues or at FantasyScore. Take advantage of the Freeman-less Braves in the short term.
