Atlanta Braves news, rumors and injuries

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin (quadriceps, groin) is dealing with a slight quadriceps or groin strain, which is why he's not in the lineup Monday, June 1, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. The move is precautionary, and Maybin should be back in the lineup Tuesday, June 2.
Fantasy Tip: With Maybin out tonight, Todd Cunningham ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is starting in center field. Cunningham is basically a deep sleeper on FantasyScore, although he's facing a pitcher that has struggled mightily after being hit in the face by a liner a month ago in Arizona Diamondbacks starter Archie Bradley.

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 1. OF Todd Cunningham is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley.
Fantasy Tip: Cunningham ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) makes for an interesting deep sleeper pick just for the fact that Bradley has given up 14 earned runs in his last three starts after being struck in the face by a liner.

Fantasy Tip: Simmons ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) gains value in daily games with a move up the batting order. Bradley has struggled since being hit by a line drive in the face, giving up at least four runs in his three starts since for an ERA of 11.81 in May. Simmons enters on a nine-game hitting streak in which he's gone 12-for-32 (.375). Consider Simmons a nice value pick tonight.

Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't be a surprise if Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) begins seeing an increase in playing time as a result of A.J. Pierzynski's ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) recent offensive struggles. After hitting .135 in April, Bethancourt is batting .231 this month, while Pierzynski is only batting .131 in May following a .422 April.

Fantasy Tip: Freeman, who leads the majors with 217 consecutive games played, is receiving a rare day off this afternoon. Remove him from your FantasyScore lineups. Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) could see a slight increase in playing time at first base due to the team's recent acquisition of 3B Juan Uribe ($1,700, 3.4% of cap).
Sun, 31 May 2015 06:12:28 -0700
Fantasy Tip: However, Peterson ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has hit just .233 over his last 15 games since moving to the leadoff spot. The run, RBI and stolen base totals are nice, though, and if Peterson can keep his head above water in the batting average department, he's a four-category contributor. And they're few and far between among middle infielders. Peterson warrants attention in deep mixed leagues, especially if you're searching for an upgrade at the keystone position.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Johnson ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) does get better, the question of a starting spot remains in doubt. Infielder Jace Peterson ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is hitting very well at second, a position Johnson has played. That could relegate Johnson to bench duties. Keep an eye on how the situation shakes out.

Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez dominated in his outing Saturday, May 30, against the San Francisco Giants. He allowed four hits and seven innings and picked up an 8-0 shutout in his third major league start.
Fantasy Tip: Perez ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) may have earned himself more starts with a performance like this. Keep an eye on what Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez decides for Perez and play him accordingly.

Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) is hitting just .181 this season and isn't worth the plug and play on FantasyScore.

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is 10-for-25 (.400 batting average) with a home run during his career against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson. Hudson is starting against the Braves Friday, May 29.
Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been solid over his last 24 games with a .291/.385/.430 slash line, 13 runs, two home runs, 14 RBI and four stolen bases. Given his solid run and past success against Hudson, Maybin's worth targeting in FantasyScore contests Friday.
Fri, 29 May 2015 15:33:42 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) made a pinch-hit appearance Wednesday, May 27, but that was his first action since Thursday, April 30. FantasyScore players should likely allow Johnson to settle in at the dish again before utilizing him in contests. He projects to enter a platoon with Juan Uribe ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) at third going forward, so both Johnson and Uribe are nothing more than NL-only options at this point.
Thu, 28 May 2015 17:56:13 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Johnson is a must own in leagues with the holds category. Johnson is also worth grabbing in deeper standard leagues, as he'll be in line for the Braves' closer job if anything were to happen to Jason Grilli.
Thu, 28 May 2015 15:05:18 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Uribe ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) was hitless in his debut with Atlanta last night, and he's hitting just .238 (20-for-84) with a homer and six RBI all year. He's a low-end third base option at FantasyScore, and he only deserves to be owned in deep NL-only leagues. He'll likely split time at the hot corner with Chris Johnson (hand) when he returns from the DL.
Wed, 27 May 2015 22:54:41 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Wood ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has pitched well in each of his last two games but will have a 3.50 ERA entering his next start. He is scheduled to face the Arizona Diamondbacks in his next outing and could be a solid option on FantasyScore.
Wed, 27 May 2015 15:47:27 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Uribe ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is having an awful season with just six runs, a home run, six RBI and a .596 OPS over 87 plate appearances. Add that he is facing Zack Greinke, and there is little incentive to roll with Uribe in any fantasy format Wednesday.
