Arizona Diamondbacks RP Brad Ziegler averages 84.6 mph on his fastball and has finished in the bottom 30 of 268 pitchers with a minimum of 60 innings thrown in both strikeouts per nine innings (4.76) and strikeout percentage (13.7%). The sidearmer thrives on the downward movement of his pitches, and he's had the highest downward movement in baseball each year since 2011. Ziegler became one of just five pitchers with 30 saves and a strikeout percentage below 14% in 2015 since 2000. Ziegler also ranked first in ground-ball-to-fly-ball ratio (9.87).
Fantasy Tip: Ziegler surely earned the closer role after 30 saves last year. But his inability to miss many bats could catch up to him in 2016, and the D-backs have plenty of options behind him in Tyler Clippard, Daniel Hudson or even Silvino Bracho. Ziegler is a low-end closing option. Almost half of his career saves came last season.

Fantasy Tip: Pollock had a breakout .315-20-76 season with 39 steals last year. He'll be one to consider among the top 10-12 outfielders in drafts.

Fantasy Tip: Pollock had a breakout .315-20-76 season with 39 steals last year. He's in the mix among the top 10 outfielders in fantasy.

Fantasy Tip: Ziegler earned the role of closer after shutting down 30 games in 2015. However, he doesn't have typical closer stuff (4.8 strikeouts per nine), and any early season falter could throw Clippard or Daniel Hudson into the job. Clippard is the better speculative pick in deep mixed or NL-only leagues, as he has 53 career saves himself.

The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed with free-agent RP Tyler Clippard (Mets) on a two-year, $12.25 million deal Monday, Feb. 8. He'll receive a $4 million signing bonus, $4.1 million in 2016 and $4.15 million in 2017.
Fantasy Tip: Brad Ziegler will enter as Arizona's ninth-inning reliever after taking over the role last year. But his skills aren't typical for a power reliever closing out games, and if he falters, Clippard or Daniel Hudson could be in line to steal the job.

Fantasy Tip: Brad Ziegler already opens the season on shaky ground as Arizona's closer despite ending the season in the role. He has skills atypical for a ninth-inning reliever. If Clippard joins the back end of the bullpen, he'd be a dark horse candidate to watch to usurp the role if Ziegler falters early in the year.

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said that he is considering flip-flopping OFs Yasmany Tomas and David Peralta defensively. Tomas would move from right field to left field, while Peralta would shift from left field to right field.
Fantasy Tip: These positional changes should have little or no impact in most seasonal fantasy baseball leagues. The move is being pondered because Tomas struggled defensively in right field after being moved from third base during the middle of last season and Peralta is considered to have the better glove of the two. Both outfielders should be available in the later middle rounds of drafts for mixed leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Clippard slumped down the stretch last season, but he's still a solid fantasy reliever for ratios.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura's .610 OPS since July of 2013 ranks as the lowest in the majors over that time for players with at least 1,100 plate appearances. Segura's nine-month-old son died in July of 2014, and he was also distracted by a contract dispute during his time in Milwaukee. The ascent of SS prospect Orlando Arcia also weighed on Segura, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: Perhaps a change of scenery is just what Segura needed. He's Arizona's middle infielder that should see the most playing time -- either at shortstop or second base -- and his fantasy value is boosted slightly likely sitting atop a much more potent offense. His speed is his biggest asset, but he needs to improve his on-base percentage for it to matter.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura could hit at the top of the batting order, according to general manager Dave Stewart. SS Nick Ahmed started 116 games at shortstop for the Diamondbacks last year, but he's known more for his defense and hit just .226.
Fantasy Tip: Segura should be expected to be the new starting shortstop, although Ahmed will spell him at the 6 occasionally. Segura's fantasy value should increase slightly at the top of a more potent lineup, and his stolen base abilities will continue to be his biggest asset.

Fantasy Tip: Owings, 24, struggled in his second full season in the majors, hitting only .227 with four home runs and 43 RBI in 515 at-bats in 2015. The D-backs expect more out of him, but he doesn't have much power to speak of and isn't attractive to fantasy owners unless you're digging for a middle infielder with playing time upside in NL-only universes.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Jean Segura will compete for a starting spot at shortstop and second base, according to general manager Dave Stewart. Segura will see the majority of his time at shortstop in spring training.
Fantasy Tip: Segura had 25 steals last season and could expand upon that with a little more power in Arizona if he lands a starting gig. He's a midrange SS option in fantasy.

Fantasy Tip: Segura's value increases a bit with the jet stream in Arizona's gaps. He had a .257-6-50 line with 25 steals last season, and he could return to double digits in homers.

Fantasy Tip: Hill likely will be a bench player this season if he remains with the Diamondbacks but could start if he goes to another team. Hill probably should be considered as a late-round option in deeper leagues at this point but could have more value if he has a starting job.

Free-agent 2B Howie Kendrick (Dodgers) is still not an option for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are reluctant to give up their second pick (No. 39) to sign him. The team also thinks 2B Chris Owings will bounce back offensively.
Fantasy Tip: Kendrick is still an upper-echelon second baseman wherever he signs after the elite guys are taken in drafts.
