Arizona Diamondbacks 3B/OF Yasmany Tomas could still begin the season in the minor leagues, according to manager Chip Hale. "Yeah, there's a definite chance ... It's going to come down to us all sitting down and everybody talking about what's best for the Major League team."
Fantasy Tip: There are a few factors at play, with the largest being Tomas' six-year, $68.5 million contract. Therefore, it is unlikely he'll spend significant time in the minors, if any. His defense is another factor, as Tomas already has three errors this spring. All said, the mid-round staple is now best left until the late middle rounds of drafts going forward. He does have two home runs and seven RBI with a .250 batting average through 48 at-bats this spring, though. There is still upside.

Fantasy Tip: Corbin will be a pitcher to monitor as he makes his way back. He could be an excellent low-priced flyer on FantasyScore after the first month or two.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is worth a late-round pick in NL-only leagues when rounding out a fantasy rotation. He could emerge as a useful option in standard mixed formats, too, especially when he faces two starts in a scoring period.

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale indicated Monday, March 23, that SS Nick Ahmed hasn't been named as the starting shortstop. "To name him the starter is hard to do, because we still have camp left," Hale said. "I'm not ready to do that. He's been very impressive."
Fantasy Tip: A report from columnist Peter Gammons indicated Hale made it clear Ahmed would start, but the skipper indicated differently. Still, Ahmed has been impressive during camp and has emerged as a must-have in NL-only play and deeper mixed formats. He also might be a good value in FantasyScore early on if he does indeed seize the starting gig.

Fantasy Tip: Tomas hit his second homer of the spring Monday, so that's a good sign that he may be more comfortable with his old mechanics. Tomas is a 2015 sleeper that should go somewhere in the late middle rounds of mixed league drafts for his power upside in a nice hitting environment. If he obtains third base eligibility, he'll be even more attractive.

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart said OF Mark Trumbo will not be traded, even though the club appears to have a surplus of outfielders. "Trumbo is a proven bat," he said. "Tough to move him for an unknown."
Fantasy Tip: If healthy, Trumbo could reach 30 homers and flirt with 100 RBIs, although his batting average will probably hover in the .230s and the strikeouts will pile up by the truckload. He is likely to be available in the middle rounds of universal fantasy baseball drafts.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed (shoulder) is working on adjusting his delivery in order to cut down on how far he throws across his body. Reed believes the adjustment will help his command and take pressure of his shoulder.
Fantasy Tip: Reed likely will open the season as the closer but could be on a short leash if he struggles early. Reed could be an option in later rounds of fantasy draft since he does bring the possibility of saves.

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas has received playing time at third base and in the outfield during spring training games while the team decides where to use him during the season. Tomas failed to field a ground ball at third base during an early spring training game and bounced three throws to first base but recorded the out. One MLB scout said Tomas will never be a top defensive third baseman but could improve his defense with time.
Fantasy Tip: Tomas likely will be an everyday starter for the team but it is not known where he will play in the field. His fantasy value will increase if he earns third base eligibility in addition to his outfield availability. Tomas could be considered a middle-round pick in drafts this season.

Fantasy Tip: Navarro's fantasy value, which is in the low range due to his projected backup status, could rise in Arizona. The Diamondbacks have a collection of catchers on the roster, but Gerald Laird is the best known of the bunch. Others include prospects like Tuffy Gosewisch and Oscar Hernandez.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed had a pair of hits, including a double and RBI, in the Cactus League spring game Sunday, March 8. He was able to use the whole field, something the team was pleased to see. "He's tough-minded and he's always been a winner, and those guys seem to be able to adapt. He has to prove to us that he's a Major League-ready hitter. He's a Major League shortstop right now. Defensively, he's tremendous," manager Chip Hale said Tuesday, March 10.
Fantasy Tip: Ahmedís defensive ability could land him a role on the bench to start the season. He is worth a flier in the late rounds in NL-only formats, and he could be a steal if his offense catches up to his defense sooner rather than later.

Fantasy Tip: If Hill is able to gain 3B/CI eligibility, in addition to his 2B/MI eligibility, he would see a bump in fantasy appeal. He is a solid late-round addition in most fantasy formats.

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas is expected to see a majority of his playing time in the spring at third base. However, manager Chip Hale has not ruled out Tomas playing in the outfield during the spring.
Fantasy Tip: If Tomas is able to gain eligibility at third base as well as outfield he will be a solid fantasy option in the middle rounds in standard drafts.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Addison Reed (shoulder) is getting closer to 100% percent after experiencing right shoulder soreness before the beginning of camp. Manager Chip Hale said Reed should be ready to go for the regular season, but he wouldn't give a specific date for Reed to get back on the mound.
Fantasy Tip: Reed won't need much time to get ready for opening day, since he's a reliever, so he should be ready. Reed posted a 4.25 ERA and 32 saves last year in his first season with the D-backs. He's not the safest closing option, and his injury this spring won't endear him to fantasy owners. Consider him a late-round source of steals in standard drafts.

Fantasy Tip: Tomas, a Cuban import, has tantalizing power upside in Arizona, and he'll be more attractive to fantasy owners if he can gain third base eligibility at some point in 2015. Consider taking a chance on him in the late middle rounds of standard drafts to shore up your outfield corps.
