The Arizona Diamondbacks had trade talks involving Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller, but the talks did not progress, according to sources. The Braves wanted a piece from Arizona's major-league core, and it may have been OF A.J. Pollock, who is under team control for three more years like Miller.
Fantasy Tip: Miller had a heck of a season for Atlanta in 2015, posting an ERA of just 3.02 in 205 1/3 innings, but he was incredibly unlucky and was 6-17 on the year. If any of your league mates dock Miller for his record in 2016 fantasy drafts, be sure to pounce on him to bolster your pitching staff. The best thing for Miller's fantasy value would be to stay in Atlanta.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a salary dump for the Diamondbacks, who were scheduled to pay Hellickson $6.6 million on the final year of his contract next season. McWilliams is a 20-year-old right-hander who went 0-2 with a 3.27 ERA in seven starts for the Phillies' Rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate in 2015 and he is not considered to be a major prospect.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA in 33 starts for Texas in 2015 during his first season in the American League. A potential return to the senior circuit would likely provide a boost to the 29-year-old righty's fantasy value.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are discussing a potential trade for Cincinnati Reds 2B Brandon Phillips that would involve 2B Aaron Hill, according to major league sources. However, Phillips has the right to veto any trade as a player with 10 years of major league service and five with the same team. The discussions haven't been serious yet, though, according to a source. The deal could advance to include more players and financial exchange. Phillips is under contract for $13 million next year but also is due $14 million in 2017, which could be a road block to a deal.
Fantasy Tip: At age 34, Phillips is a declining player that would be leaving one of the best hitting environments in baseball for a more neutral location. He's no longer a lock to hit 15 home runs anymore and probably will struggle to hover around .300 again in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Ziegler handled the majority of the Diamondbacks save chances in 2015 and was pretty successful, closing out 30 games with a 1.85 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. However, he struck out just 4.8 hitters per nine innings, so he's not your typical hard-throwing fireman. He'll likely enter the year as Arizona's ninth-inning guy again, but he probably won't have a long leash if he struggles, making him more of a low-end closer option.

Fantasy Tip: Ziegler will have fantasy value in most leagues as long as he remains closer. However, the Diamondbacks may be in play for a higher-tier closer like Aroldis Chapman, so you may want to pay attention to this situation.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia may have better fantasy value seeking a starting job elsewhere, but history suggests he is a catcher who is best served as part of a platoon. If that is the case, Saltalamacchia's fantasy value drops significantly.

Fantasy Tip: O'Brien is one of Arizona's top young talents, and he had four hits (one home run) in 10 at-bats to end the season in his major league debut. He hit .284 (139-for-490) with 26 long balls and 107 RBI at Class AAA Reno. O'Brien played strictly left field with Arizona after being called up, but he's expected to remain as a catcher, which is most useful for his fantasy value next year. He could eventually gain eligibility in the outfield or at first base. O'Brien will be a nice target in two-catcher or NL-only leagues to start.

Fantasy Tip: Pollock broke out for the D-backs this year with a .315 average (192-for-609) with 20 home runs, 76 RBI, 111 runs scored and 39 stolen bases. As a five-category contributor, he deserves consideration in the early rounds of fantasy drafts next year.

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Sunday, Oct. 4. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start at catcher and is batting fifth in the lineup.
Fantasy Tip: Castillo ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) played well after joining Arizona and should have fantasy value next season. Saltalamacchia ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is hitting .224 this season and is not the best option for owners.

Fantasy Tip: It was Goldschmidt's ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) 32nd home run of the season and his sixth since Tuesday, Sept. 1. For the year, the first baseman owns a .997 OPS with 101 runs and 108 RBI, and he remains a top-tier bat in all fantasy formats. He'll again be one of the top picks in drafts next spring.
Sat, 03 Oct 2015 16:04:09 -0700
Fantasy Tip: O'Brien ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is 3-for-5 (.600) with a home run in his brief career and is absolutely worth the flyer against Collin McHugh on FantasyScore.
Fri, 02 Oct 2015 16:30:45 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Hill ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has had limited at-bats this year and has only two home runs against southpaws in 2015. Ignore him in daily formats against one of the best lefties in the American League this year.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Peralta's ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) season is over, and it isn't out of the question to grab a healthy replacement from the waiver wire immediately. It is worth checking back for an official word, if you have the fortune of outfield bench depth on your seasonal roster, though.
