Arizona Diamondbacks news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Miller (0-3, 8.49 ERA, 7.3 BB/9) certainly isn't this bad, but we warned you that he'd regress in 2016 with the move to the desert. Bad mechanics are playing a role, and you probably don't want to sell low at this point. Ride him out and keep him benched for now, although a matchup against his former team in the weak-hitting Braves could be the beginning of a turnaround.

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb and OF David Peralta are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins left-handed SP Justin Nicolino Tuesday, May 3. 3B Brandon Drury is at the hot corner and hitting second, while OF Rickie Weeks is starting in left field and batting cleanup.
Fantasy Tip: If you're choosing one of the these players in daily contests, it best be Drury, who has gone 9-for-28 (.321) with three home runs and five RBI in seven straight games. His hot streak has been bad news for Lamb and has basically relegated him to more of a bench role. Drury should be attracting the attention of those in mixed leagues, as well. Weeks, despite hitting cleanup, is more of a low-end daily commodity.

Fantasy Tip: Check back for updates tomorrow to see if Segura will return to action. He had a great April and surprised with his power stroke. He can't keep that pace up, though, and is incredibly high batting average on balls in play (BABIP) means he's due for regression in the average department. This would be a good time to sell high. Phil Gosselin replaces Segura at second and in the leadoff spot Tuesday but is a low-end middle infield play in daily games.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller's delivery seems out of whack this year compared to last. His delivery has always featured him driving down low with his back, with his arm slinging across his legs. However, his pitching hand was parallel with his knees last year, and this year it's ending up lower. The D-backs have won only two of his six starts.
Fantasy Tip: Miller's start with Arizona has been disastrous, and he's gone at least five innings just three times in his six starts with an 8.49 ERA in six starts. Miller is a candidate to drop in shallow mixed leagues if he wasn't already. Bench him everywhere else and hope he gets his mechanics sorted out in short order.

Fantasy Tip: Miller isn't as bad as his 8.49 ERA suggests, but he isn't a fantasy ace either. If he has been cut loose in your league, it doesn’t hurt to stash him to see if he can figure things out and become a solid No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy starter.

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura, 3B Jake Lamb and C Welington Castillo are not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies Chad Bettis Sunday, May 1. 2B Phil Gosselin will start at second base and is batting first in the lineup. 3B Brandon Drury will start at third base and is batting second, while C Chris Herrmann will start at catcher and is batting sixth.
Fantasy Tip: Drury is hitting .321 with three runs and five RBI over the last seven days and should be an attractive starting option in most leagues. Gosselin is batting .276 in limited playing time and could be an option for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues. Herrmann should be avoided by all owners.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zack Greinke allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out eight batters through seven innings during the Diamondbacks' 5-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies Saturday, April 30. Greinke did not factor into the decision.
Fantasy Tip: It was one of Greinke's better outings this season, as the veteran has been an early-season disappointment with a 5.50 ERA and just two wins. He has also allowed a National League-leading 47 hits and 23 earned runs. Better times are ahead, but keep expectations in check if you're trying to cash in on a potential buy-low opportunity with Greinke.

Fantasy Tip: Drury is riding a hot stretch over his past nine games with six runs, four doubles, three home runs and six RBI. As long as he is hitting, his bat will keep him in the lineup, which makes Drury a potential add in deep mixed leagues. At this point, he should be owned in all NL-only leagues, too.

Fantasy Tip: Drury has been solid with a .297-3-8 line thus far. He's a decent streamer against Chris Rusin.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 29. SS Jean Segura moves to shortstop and 3B Brandon Drury is starting at second base and is hitting seventh against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood.
Fantasy Tip: Ahmed is a defensive-first shortstop who's hitting just .190 (15-for-79), and he could see more bench time if Drury continues to swing a hot bat. Ahmed is an NL-only depth piece. Drury is hitting a cool .414 (12-for-29) with two homers and four RBI in his last seven games. He's a waiver wire target in deep mixed leagues for depth. Keep rolling with him as a low-priced sleeper in daily formats while he's hot.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa made an adjustment to his approach a couple of starts ago, and he has allowed five hits and one run while striking out 16 over his last 13 innings. The success may not continue, but his strikeout potential makes him worth a look in deeper mixed formats.

Arizona Diamondbacks C Welington Castillo is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 28. C Chris Herrmann is starting behind the plate and batting sixth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Castillo is picking up where he left off in 2015 after joining the Diamondbacks, as he has six home runs and 12 RBI with a .290/.351/.580 slash line to start the season. Herrmann has a tough matchup against Wacha, and he should be viewed as a low-end start Thursday, especially in daily contests. Plus, Herrmann is just 3-for-25 to start the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Yasmany Tomas is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 28. 3B/OF Brandon Drury is starting in left field and batting fifth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Thursday.
Fantasy Tip: Tomas has paid off for fantasy owners who targeted him as a breakout candidate entering the season. The sophomore currently sits with 16 runs, five home runs and 12 RBI with a .288/.333/.563 slash line. Similarly, Drury has fared well when given an opportunity with a .298/.317/.526 line through 60 plate appearances. He is a risky start in the tough matchup against Wacha Thursday, though.

Fantasy Tip: It was an ugly performance for Corbin who saw his record slip to 1-3 with a 4.88 ERA. He hasn't been very ace-like and is killing his fantasy owners. There is still plenty of time to turn it around, however, and you should stick it out and not compound the problem by dropping him and watching Corbin get hot with another fantasy owners team.
Wed, 27 Apr 2016 23:55:35 -0700
Fantasy Tip: Tomas entered the day with the longest active streak in the National League. He is still hitting .333 (19-for-57) with 15 runs scored, five homers and eight RBIs over the past 13 games to make him a must-start fantasy option until he cools off.
